  1. I like the 58’s as they ride much nicer than a 44 plus I get into some severe off road situations and like the idea of having the heavy rears to keep parts from breaking
  2. I inquired about them and was told even though they are stud pilot they require a special rim and can only run 24” tube tires
  3. The 98 was a cracked valve cover, pin hole in oil pan and rear main seal that was installed improperly
  4. The bearings are much larger and it takes a special hub not at all like 44-46000lb
  5. Thanks for the update, it originally came with the 12r24 tube tires with 24” Dayton and was converted to 22” Dayton’s to run 11R24.5 i was thinking about changing it over to run hub/stud pilot but was told it required special rims and even then may be for the 12r24 tube tires.
  6. I have a 1998 R model with the 58000 lb rears and would like to convert to hub pilot or stud pilot. I’ve been told they take special rims due to the larger hub/cone assembly can someone give me some information about this ? what would the correct rims be for this and could I run 24.5 tires ? I’ve hear it’s only for the 11r 24 set up
  7. I disagree on the Allison HD4560 being fragile the are much more forgiving than a manual trans and can handle the horsepower without a issue
  8. Recently we installed injectors, rocker arms and shafts, camshaft, lifters and unit pumps trucks is 100% stock including exhaust manifold, turbo and injectors and it runs fabulous!! if you down shift at 1300 it’ll stay in the power band and up shifting at 1750-1800 keeps things moving smoothly. It will pull down to 1200 and keep on going we max out at 73280 lb here in PA for a Tri Axle dump
  9. On the 2003 the cause of “oil leak” was actually a over zealous national oil change shop that pumped way to muc grease into the throw out bearing the 98 was leaking at air compressor, oil filter mount and looks like the rear main seal was damaged when it was installed
  10. It is a automatic in the 98 Flywheel housings on both trucks went to machine shop to be squared up. not sure about cracks
  11. I have two R models a 98 & 03 Both have oil leaks at the back of the engine AFTER the transmission has been out, rear structure resurfaced, new rear main seal and oil pans resealed. Any insight to what the problem may be?
  12. That was Hempt Bros some sloped nose had the Cummins M11 there is a single axle dump set up like that in my area. I had a 88 Giant Tri axle dump with a L10 Cummins, 7LL trans and 6:17 axle ratio. Not much would stop it but it was a slow truck. sure wish I still had it.
  13. Can the CRD112/113 be made to be full locking? often the power divider isn’t enough
  14. I have a 2003 RD686S with the AMI 370, can I put that software in a 1998 ECM RD688SX the 2003 has a Eaton the 1998 has a Allison, would that be a issue ?
  15. i have 4-24 inch Dayton 6 spoke hubs (2 are ABS) for Mack 58,000 lb rear, all appear to be in good condition P/N 8QJ530 2-24 inch Dayton 6 spoke w/ ABS for Mack 18,000lb steer, one is good, one shows wear due to rim slipping on hub PN FZ196 message me for info
  16. i am i need if a complete wiring diagram for a 1998 Mack rd 688 SX, also equipped with a Allison 4560. my dash lights started flashing on and off then have smoke coming from the turn signal flasher unit...until i turn off the parking lights, then all is well. my 03' also has a melted socket for the flasher, seems to me this may be a common issue. thanks in advance for any help. Dennis
  17. What would the proper offset rim be to run a 425 22.5 steer on the front of a 98 RD 688SX ? the truck has Dayton 6 spoke hubs
  18. UPDATE... the 58,000 lb rides almost as nice as the 44000 lb in my 03 RD but much nicer with a load and running of road ! who woulda thought !!
  19. Problem solved, we had to replace the VECM for other reasons and that solved the speedometer issue as well as the intermittent failure of the right turn signal.
  20. They can’t help as it’s a Mack part installed by Mack when the truck was built
  21. I have a 98 Mack RD688SX last part of vin is 040210 with a Allison 4560 i need a speed sensor, it screws into the LEFT side of tail housing The Mack P/N is 64MT-355M It is specific to 98-2000 Mack RD w/Allison im hopeful that someone has a new or used one they can sell me as Mack says it’s obsolete
  22. i have heard different, i was told they wont transfer over by a certain Mack specialized salvage yard...i am hopeful KT_Engineer is correct. that would surely make things much easier
