Kinda' off the wall, but could that be a mid-'50s Scania?
Don't shoot me if I'm way off there!

Good point on the Lanova heads.
I will try to dig through some Mack info tonight and see if I can find anything that might at least narrow down the possibilities.
I still bet Geoff knows!

1. Is there a felt wiper that applies lube to the breaker cam? If so, add some grease to that pad to lubricate the cam and rubbing block.
2. DW has a more likely solution. If the voltage is wrong, the points might be sticking closed (think "arc weld"), putting too much load on the rubbing block while "breaking them open". This will definitely eat up the block in short order. I also had some points from Mallory one time that were just plain too stiff. But, I think that was a bad batch. They replaced them and I never had another issue with them.

Here is another discussion about older stuff...

I'm pretty sure that is a Buda engine. You could get various versions of a Buda diesel in a Mack starting in the mid 1930s. I think they were anywhere from 212CID to 468CID. They used the Lanova style combustion chamber. Basically anything before the END519, which was Mack's first proprietary diesel, was a Buda engine. I think Allis Chalmers bought Buda in the 1950s
That is more like where my mind was going, 67. Thanks for the details!

Well, looks like Roosa had their first contract to produce pumps in 1952. So, still may be the earlier Mack diesel, before the ones I am more familiar with.

I don’t believe roosamaster pumps were in production until the mid 50s
Well, that DEFINITELY makes it interesting!
Can't wait to see what this thing is!
Earth to Geoff! Come in Geoff!

That must be before my time. Maybe the late '30s-40s? I'll definitely be curious to find out what it is.

Does anybody know, off the top of their head, the date and location of the upcoming Cherokee, NC truck show?
I tried to look at the ATHS website to see the calendar of events, but all I found was a QR code to redirect me to an app to download.
If I wanted a fu@#ing app, I would have gone to the app store. Too uppity to post the calendar on the website anymore? Screw that!

Is that anything like "brain science"?

The parking brake valve on my R was factory-plumbed in such a way to give an anti-compounding effect. Really clever, since it eliminated the need for a separate anti-compounding valve in the system.
Parking brake system is actually very simple, and a huge improvement over the hand-operated brake.
Great progress already. Keep us informed.

Just verified that the gates open to the public at 10:00 AM tomorrow.

Oh, and Freightrain is a good resource on this one. He's already done it.

Seems like there have always been "short snout" and "long snout" water pump discussions on here. I believe they are crucial for putting engines into things like the B model which are "tighter" under the hood.
Keep us informed.

Regular gas is $3.39 here on the south side of Atlanta, but our Governor has just suspended State gas taxes, which will drop it another 28 cents/gallon, probably in a few days.
Wonder where they'll make up that money?

I'm bringing the twin grandsons. I think the wife is planning to come too. Getting her to stand for a picture is tough, though.

I was hoping you would bring him.
Can anyone identify this Mack Diesel engine
