  1. I think there were a couple of Brockways. As soon as the guys can get this stuff pulled out and organized, there will be an inventory list made up. Then we will know more about what there is there. Kent
  2. Sure will. I have a few pictures already. But, I don't have near all of them. Keep in mind that these trucks ARE in a junk yard. I suspect all of them will need re-cabbed, or at least need a lot of cab work. I did not see one Mack cab that I would want to take home to meet Momma. But, since I am planning to upgrade to a later cab anyway, that does not hurt me that much. Once Dale gets some of the Macks pulled out into a clear area, I will get pics and VIN numbers off as many of them as I can. Of 11 they checked yesterday, there were 8 which had titles. So, that's a good sign. In the meantime, I will attach a couple of the pics I took there before. This will give you some idea of the conditions.. My goal is to come out of there with serviceable parts; frame, axles, engine, trans. After we get those parts home, the real work will begin! Kent
  3. Absolutely! Just as soon as I start buying parts!
  4. Okay! My parts guy has made a deal to buy everything in a salvage yard. I walked around this yard with him a few weeks back, and there are literally hundreds of trucks there...probably in excess of 300. There are A LOT of complete and partial Macks there. I found a handful in there which I might be able to use as the base for my project. There are also a lot of things there which do not interest me, personally, but may be useful to someone else. I saw one complete R640T there. They only make about 97 of those altogether. My contact is planning on selling anything nobody wants for scrap dollars. In fact, his quote is based on scrapping everything in there at market scrap prices. So, he would be willing to sell truck for about the same price as scrap, if anybody's interested. His plan is to immediately remove and scrap anything that is not likely to sell (later-model, run-of-the-mill stuff), to make a hole in the yard. Then, the more interesting stuff (like all the Macks) can be pulled out into this area and evaluated. It is at this point I am going to go back for another visit, and try to pick out some pieces. Keep in mind that these trucks are in a salvage yard, and most have been for many years. So, don't plan on driving them home! But, there are many good, complete trucks there. If anybody wants to be in on this deal, P.M. me, and I'll try to hook you up. Kent
  5. Hey, Vinny. Been out of town. Just getting caught up. I have actually been to NY to see the one with the trailer. The price is insane, considering the condition. The price on the "restored" one is doubly so. The basic problem with these old units (as you know) is rust. And, you never pay extra for less-rusty, if you still have to re-cab it anyway. I have a couple of deals working right now. If any of them pan out, I think I can come out really well on the truck. I will be posting some info on the for-sale page that might be of some help to others. Stay tuned.
  6. Wow! Thise would have been good ones. That's me: a day late and a dollar short!
  7. Thanks! I think! From the looks of your "signature", sounds like we'd get along just fine! Kent
  8. Duh! I didn't look too closely at your numbers, did I? Totally missed the fact that you were comparing a 700S to a 700ST. Eyes must be getting old! And then, there's that liquid corn effect... LOL! Kent
  9. I can't divulge the location right now, Ron, but Dale is working on a deal to net him a BUNCH of goodies. And, there's a pretty good chance I will get a few pieces in the deal! Kent
  10. That all makes perfect sense, David. The DMs are definitely a differend frame, as are the "western" trucks. It is surprising that some of the 700s were the same, while some of them were different, though. Thanks for the info! Kent
  11. I have been working with Dale Estes of Milford Truck Parts, in Illinois. He seems to be a pretty good guy. He is trying to help me find the parts I need to build a truck, and he has some good contacts and sources for parts. http://www.milfordtruckparts.com/index.htm
  12. That's an interesting point. I wonder if the "western" trucks changed over at exactly the same time as the "eastern" trucks. Kent
  13. Sorry, Mike! Some folks call me "Kent". Not everybody is open to the entire "Weasel" experience!
  14. Vinny, This is the U685ST (on the frame VIN and the door plate) which has been converted to an R model. It is in the Norfolk, VA area. Last time I spoke with the owner, he was writing out a bill-of-sale, so it may well be gone. Again, makes you think...doesn't it?!! Kent
  15. Okay, guys & gals, As I stated in my intro page, I am looking to buy or build an R model. I am looking for a few specifics, but also have a lot of leeway in the final configuration. So, here goes! See if any of y'all can assist. First off, this WILL NOT be a work truck. This is a truck show and parade truck. I want to buy or build a 1977 or older (read that; "antique") Mack R600. I want to go single-axle. I would prefer a light, single-rail frame, if at all possible. Light front axle (i.e.: FA 534) is a plus. I prefer dual-reduction rears (RAD 529, for instance), but could be persuaded to go single-reduction. Taller gears and overdrive are a must. I could even work with an R400, as the frames are identical, as far as I can tell. I can go Thermodyne power, with Triplex or Quadruplex box. Or I can handle Maxidyne power, with Maxitorque box. I would even consider a Fuller box, but I'd prefer to stay all-dog. I have a cohort who claims he can lay his hands on a good, later-model cab. So, I would definitely consider a truck with body cancer as a starting point, if the rest was good. NC is a "frame state", so a title matching the frame number is a big plus. I hope this puts me in a market the "exporters" aren't interested in. They prefer heavy camelback trucks. So, if you have anything like this that you want to part with, and see it in a good home, let me know! Kent
  16. All, Here is one of the oddballs I saw. This truck is an F685T (both on the frame and on the...uh..."transplanted" VIN plate. The cab is an older CA36 "steel dash" piece, and the hood is a somewhat later model with the external grille on it. So, it's kind of a mutt. "Dale" at the mack museum said that the majority of the holes in the frame for locating the various components were common, and that things like cab mount brackets were model-specific. The reason I am asking if anyone has personally dome this swap os that I have found F-model trucks with good frames, but little else, and may have located an R or two which need frames. Of course, like j hancock said, I would be infinitely better off if I could locate an R that is equipped the way I want. I'm just trying to keep my options open! Kent
  17. Vinny, the files are pretty big to upload many of them. Is there any particular angle or detail I can try to upload? Or would you like me to send you some directly? Kent
  18. I agree, J. It's best to start close to the mark. But, sometimes you find weird stuff! I have a friend in the parts business who is trying to help me with this project. I would like to post his contact information, in case it would help somebody else. Where would be the best place to post that information?
