  1. It's horrible the current treatment to drivers. I run a small fleet of 8 reefers north south east coast and to Minnesota with produce. Indeed we push on to be on time but get shit on when we are early and when your late due to traffic they take $300 from your load!

I'm currently looking to hire drivers from Minnesota run east to NJ and back to Minnesota but can not grow because no one would like to drive any more. My start pay is at 42 per mile so it's not bad. The other thing is that equipment becomes unreliable all that EPA shit for after treadment is killing us. It brakes on Monday shop is full come back Friday your told. I'm telling you this country is going to hell in a handbasket they way we go! o and on top that the shippers are cutting rates because the fuel went down Duuuhhhh!! My trucks cost me more in insurance every year, more expensive to buy and to maintain and to keep drivers you need to pay them well. So where is my profit after all this!

  2. Wait! thats not the MOST frustrating thing.. I did pay cash for a 2 year/ 200,000 mile 3rd party warranty, too. So far, nothing has been covered,. Engine, Transmission, Turbo, and differentials only. NO DPF or exhaust coverage at all. What a NOOB I am, I probably deserve this.....

I made the same mistake. Cancel that Insurrance and get your money back. Injector cups failed not covered oil cooler failure not covered and do can o go on and on

  3. Well from everything my friends and others I know talk about, the "new" as in the 2014 and up MP8 trucks have the least issues. All of the newer Mack and Volvo engines have emissions issues if they have excessive idle time. I know the trucks are rated as clean idle but I have a friend with 6 new trucks (2013 and newer) and he has had almost no issues with emissions systems. There are other new trucks in the area with high idle time that are in the shop all the time. I have been told by a Mack insider to go with the MP8 not the MP7 for long term longevity due to wrist pin oiling changes.

I guess that's why Volvo was pushing to put EPU''s on the new trucks I was looking purchase! To keep idle time down!

  4. With the money saved by not having big monthly truck payments and lower running costs (hopefully much fewer break downs like the new engines) pay the drivers more on what your saving in overhead. I wouldn't think it would take long for word to get out about a company with a nice, well kept older fleet that pays well. Just a thought.

Not a bad way to look at it!

  5. You both are right. First give us a reason, then kill 'em all.

I'm in the middle of Minnesota. We have the largest Somali population around. It's starting to get bad here. I'm all for assimilation but they have to try to assimilate.

I hear yeah. I came in with spirit airlines in March in to Minneapolis. Got a cab to the hotel and the fu...cker try to jack up my rate. It told him that if he didn't shape up I would water board his ass! He got pissed took my $20 and drove off!

  6. I just thought with all these issues I may take a different approach. I can get new tractors thru Penske and yes they have to EGR and DEF. but here is the point, I f I buy a truck my payments are $2500 pm and if I break down its covered by warranty but may sit at the dealer some time. There for I loose revenue by not running them. With Penske if the truck breaks down and get it not fixed in 25 hours I will be rolling out in a rental unit from them till my unit is fixed. At least I don't have down time and keep rolling creating revenue. We may pay a premium but it's better than have trucks sitting in the shop waiting to be God knows to be fixed.

  7. Yup Mack couldn't discount them as much. I love Mack but with Volvo engines it's the same crap! FYI I had a doser valve issue so Volvo in New York didn't have it and told me wait till Monday morning and this on Friday noon. So I thought isn't Volvo same parts as Mack! So I looked up a Mack dealer called them across the dealer from Volvo and ask him if you have a doser valve and he told me yes! Ask him could you install it he said no I don't have to software so ordered my driver to walk across the street get the valve and walk back to the Volvo dealer and had it installed. It's to me mind bugling that the Volvo dealer don't think of that.crazy!
