I can't help with Cooney Coal, but the name is familiar as Cooney Bros. Construction Materials out of Tarrytown, New York.  I don't want to hijack the thread, but I spent a summer in the mid-'50s driving for Cooney Tarrytown and would be interested in any word about that outfit.  I was mainly assigned a very worn and very overloaded LF ten wheeler with a Lanova that smoked a lot and pulled very hard.  Any information or memories to share will be appreciated.

Well, here it is 2025 and the truck described in this post is still alive and well,  still working and still owned by Dave Adams of the Portage area (Summerhill Twp, PA) The truck is still in the original black paint,  never restored and still has the same large Ti Brook dump bed. Dave Adam's is a cool guy! He was actually my idol in the early 80s and helped to make me who I am today all these years later.  Notably, Dave had some darn cool vehicles aside from the Cooney coal truck which included a 76 Chevy Sport stepside pickup which was lifted crazy high with 44" mud tires and he competed in local truck pull competition. I remember that truck always covered in mud as it was common in this area for 4 wheeling.  He also had probably still has a 70 Chevelle 454 SS and an old Camaro.  Cool guy with cool stuff and nothing new.  Everything he has is a reminder of better days  gone by.
