aanderson Posted March 30, 2012 Share Posted March 30, 2012 i have have a 86 r model with a 300 engine. The engine always had a surging issue and recently has gotten worse. It also losses power on a extended hard pull. I believe the supply fuel pump may be getting weak. It has Pai 3597 on the pump. Are there rebuild kits availiable for this pump? i heard that it is somewhat common for these engines to surge. I bled the fuel system buy pumping air into the fuel tank with the feed line to the injection pump off. It pushed fuel backwards out of the injection pump as well as pushing it out the feed line. smokin joe Posted March 30, 2012 Share Posted March 30, 2012 What I found with my dump with the 300 in it was it indeed was the injector pump. it was about as cheap to purchase an exchange and I went ahead while into it and got a 350 pump and got quite a bit more pep out of the truck. Cruiseliner Posted April 8, 2012 Share Posted April 8, 2012 Hi,We had a R600 with a similar problem and we changed the lift pump, cleaned the tank vent. All made no difference.
