We had this happen once on a 237. The truck was running fine, ran out of fuel, one tank empty and one tank half full. Filled it up and ran about 50 miles and the engine started knocking. One of the injectors was loose and started coming apart. Tightened the pieces of the injector back up, installed it, and made it home without amy futher problems.

Just one more thing we can thank Volvo for.

Will a unimount wheel fit over the cap on the end of your axle? Your best bet may be to change the axles to 44k. Buy a used cut off. That will give you everything wheel to wheel with choice of ratio. If you use this truck off highway, the 4.17 and faster ratios won't hold up. That is why mack uses slow rears and very fast transmissions.

1100 x 22.5 tires and .6 to 1 overdrive

with 5.73 rears: direct @ 2000 rpm = 42 mph

overdrive @ 1287 rpm = 45 mph

1715 rpm = 60 mph

2000 rpm = 70 mph

with 5.55 rears: direct @ 2000 rpm = 43 mph

overdrive @ 1246 rpm = 45 mph

1662 rpm = 60 mph

1938 rpm = 70 mph

What size tires do you run?

7.00 rears with 1100X22.5 tires at 70 mph, the drive shaft is turning 4000 rpm.

It's easier, cheaper, and more driver friendly to just change the rear ends.

Just run your pump off the front of the Mack engine.

I've seen this problem on engines with low oil presure.

When you pull the compressor, check the water lines to be sure the compressor is getting circulation. If the compressor air intake is plumbed to intake side of the turbo, you should update it by either plumbing to intake manifold or installing a filter kit on the compressor.

Look at ebay item number 320077270397. It's in your price range and within a days drive!

Some of these old engines that haven't been run for some time will rev up and not stop until something breaks. Even the fuel cut off won't work. You may want to install a quick coupler or a valve on the supply line at the pump so you can kill the engine if this situation should arise.

In the third picture posted above by Maxidyne237, the 1993 RW with the high top sleeper in the background was the last one built.

Actually the toughest is the one you didn't mention.......the RM.

Even when you try to buy a new Mack they're already half Volvo. Volvo engines. Volvo front axles. Built in a Volvo plant. I passed the Hagerstown engine plant last Monday. From I-81 you can see the "VOLVO", but you need to be in the parking lot to read the "mack" on the side of the water tank.

And tube type tires!
