  1. Here is a scan of what I have done so far with the new face for my E series speedo. The area left out in the scan is what was rusted over on the original face so, I am saving the hard part for last. I need another logo, this is the only one I had in my stock logos, I need a good copy of the old style logo with the tail under the Mack. Anybody got a good B/W one? I would like some feedback if anybody has any! Keep in mind this is just a scan, the quality on the real thing is much better, I am doing it at 1800 dpi. David
  2. Thanks John, I think you answered this for me before on the ATHS board but I could not find it in the archives. DW
  3. I am finaly ready to get the engine started, first I need to change the oil. Can anybody tell me how much it needs? Will the ENF510A use more than EN510? Thanks! DW

    New Pics

I added a new album to My Gallery, It is photos of my MF tractors. Also I added a new picture to my truck album, it is of the engine in my S75 pumper, I am slowly getting the parts painted and back on the engine. DW
  5. From the album: MF Tractors

This is my MF 231S, I use it for all the ag work around my place. It pulls my 7 shank all chisel plow up to 12" with no problems.

  6. From the album: MF Tractors

This is my MF 360, the box on the back is my blower for burning stump piles, we took a cooling fan off an old GE diesel/electric locomotive, added a 3 point hitch and PTO shaft. when I get this thing up to around 1800 rpm's it will make the fire burn and sound like a jet engine.

  7. From the album: 48 Mack Pumper

This is the motor in my S75 pumper, so far I have rebuilt the generator, carburator, and water pump. Anytime I take something off I like to beadblast and paint it.

  8. Pictures of my Mack Apparatus
  9. Thanks Brad, I used three different size screwdrivers, started with the smallest and went all the way around, moved to the next size and did it again till I used all three sizes. It came off pretty easy but you do need to take your time. I will take the face to work with me tommorow, since I have a printing and sign shop I can redo a new face myself. I plan on scanning the old one and use it as a template for a new one printed on vinyl. I will post a few pics of it when I am done.
  10. I read a short artical in my SPAAMFAA newsletter about making a new face for speedometers, does anybody know how to remove the lens from a E series speedometer? It looks like the face is held on with two screws, has anyone ever removed or replaced the indicater needle? Thanks! DW
  11. How bad/big is the crack? Where is it on the engine? Can you post a picture or two? If it is just a hairline and on the water jacket side you MIGHT be able to get by with some JB weld. If it is small and easy to get to you MIGHT be able to find a welding shop that has someone who can weld castiron. And the last way and the hardest is to find a foundry who can heat the whole casting, weld it and the let it cool for a few days. This is REALLY the only way to do it but it cost the most and takes the most time and that is if you can evan find a shop that can do it. The lock and stich method is the best way with out welding, but it is very time consuming and hard to do without being on a drill press, and thats after you pull the motor and find a press big enough to hold it. If you go with JB weld you need to spend a lot of time prepairing the crack, grinding it out with a die grinder, then you want to drill out each end of the crack to keep it from growing. clean up the area and make sure you have no grease, rust, paint or scale in the area. Follow the instructions on the JB weld. Also try to Google "repairing castiron" the information you get from there can help you decide which way to go. DW
  12. Hello David, I am about 45 minutes West of Anniston, I grew up just down the road from Huntsville in Gadsden. A fellow ATHS (American Truck Historical Society)member lives in Huntsville, He has a purple B-61, You may have seen it around town. Are you a member of SPAMMFA? I am restoring my 1948 S-75 E series pumper, is your deparments engine still in service? DW David Waits
  13. I have had Chevy, GMC and Dodge trucks all with diesels, I now own a 99.5 Super Duty with the 7.3 engine. If I had to go and buy another truck today I would get another Super Duty with the 7.3, you can tow a house with it! I keep a new fuel filter with me as well as the cam sensor, never had to replace the sensor but I have heard that others have had problems. Also, my water pump failed around 115.000 miles but was not to hard to replace. DW
  14. Thanks Firemack and Mackaholic, Just as I was getting ready to stop for the day I found a NEW brass plug on the govener housing, I thought this might be it, with the answers from both of you I now know where it is. Brad, The water pump works just fine, I took it apart, you were right it was full of rust! I got almost two cups of rust and flakes out of it, I cleaned and inspected everything (the insides were in very good condition) and put it back togather. It turns as smooth as silk! I made some gaskets for it yesterday, got it all painted and will put it back on the engine today (after the weather warms up). I hope to get it running by Saturday! I will keep you updated on the progress. Thanks. DW
  15. Anybody know where the oil sending unit is on this engine? I am trying to hook up a temporay oil pressure gage. I have been all over this engine and can not find it anywhere, does it connect on the oil filter housing? Also, does anyone have a service book for this engine or any pictures/ drawings? Thanks! DW
  16. After I had my generator rebuilt I filled both cups twice, on the seconed try I could feel a little back pressure. I was not sure if that was how it's done,Hope it was enough. I got the water pump apart today, Took most of the day just to get it apart and cleaned, looks like it will work as is. at least for now. I should get it all back togather, painted and back on the engine Friday. I took a few pictures, I will post them later tonight or in the AM. It's good to be making progress on the truck again! DW
  17. I will go back with the cup to keep it original, how do I know when the pump and cup are full of grease? David
  18. On my old water pump ( Mack ENF510A ) it has a grease cup, on my replacment pump it has a grease zerk. Should I go back and replace the zerk with the cup or use the zerk? What would be the advantage / disadvantage of using either one? David
  19. -Users Screen Mackaholic -Was it a positive or negitive experience Positive -What was purchased, Water pump, manifold parts. -Speed of communication and shipping. Very good -Date Purchased or sold 12/10/05 Brad did exactly what he said he would, parts were just as he described them and they were packed very well for 60 Lbs. of cast iron! Parts were priced fair and I think we both made a good trade.javascript:emoticon(' :chili:') smilie David Waits
  20. Thanks Barry, Do you know what the length of the hinge is? David
  21. Will the stainless hood hinge listed in the B model store fit an E hood, Will it be long enough or to short? Thanks David
  22. I am pretty sure that you cant even have them in GA, at one time you saw them on just about all the trucks. Now nobody has them. David
  23. There is a seller on Ebay who goes by thebigguy123 who sells the kinda stuff you are looking for, I just checked to see what he had listed but found nothing for now. check out his auctions, he usually will have some CF stuff from time to time. The base should be easy to find on Ebay as well, just give it some time if you do not see it right away. David
  24. I do not know what the guys that haul asphalt get per hour but I do know that most of them can get just about all the hours they want if they get in with a contractor doing major road work, most of the new road construction goes on 24/7 weather permiting If I ever sell my shop and building I would like to get a truck and do some hauling myself. David
