I think most of the problem people have with it is that they don't expect to see two sticks, let alone three. Just takes some getting used to. I think the truck was originally owned by one of the big oil field service outfits for moving natural gas compressors and the like into locations with pretty bad conditions.
One of my customers, (house and heavy mover) has a couple trucks we've set up with 1241's behind Fuller transmissions and they work well. That is some pretty bad ground to work in sometimes and the extra gear selections are welcome for positioning.

I don't see where it would be needed. With the 23:1 reduction for low gear, it is just a crawl to start with. Unless of course you need the ability to shift at less than two to three mph and keep moving. The 1241 shifter shown right up against the seat would always be in the driver's leg and it is already "snug" quarters in an R series cab for the average man.
I have that same transmission in one of my trucks and it is very smooth and progressive.

Hi Guys I would like to put a B 61 body on a newer better driving Mack I have seen one done on a later model Maxidine and would like to know if anyone out there knows what different models the cab will fit on thanks Larry
I have evaluated doing this for years myself but have resolved to installing a rear cutoff onto the front 1/2 of the truck, and installing a new set of "softer" front springs. Sure takes a lot less fabrication to do it this way. Most of the B series frames were spaced at 33.5" in width, (behind the cab to rear) and a good portion of the other trucks, (non Mack) out there are 34" in width. This 1/4" inch difference on each side gives an excellent welding ledge, (or fillet) to weld to. I then take a 1/4 inch plate the width of the inside of the frame rail vertical section, and weld it to the inner frame. The length is determined by the spacing of the crossmembers of the frame but make this at least 18" each side of the weldments determined prior to parting the truck. Not that the frame is the same width each side of the weld, I then bolt a "fishplate" to the inside of the frame using grade "8" hardware. I'm talking winch trucks so you may not need to be so heavy as each application is different.
I had a set of springs made up for my B61 but have not installed, driven the truck yet. They should be softer than the originals, but I really don't mind a stiff ride. The rear is air from a donor truck.
I'm using an E6-350 for the engine with either a nine, or 13 speed Fuller transmission, a 3.70 Rockwell rear. This combination should yield good reliability, and durability. The fabrication is much less than placing the cab onto another chassis and making things fit and work without a lot of reengineering. Biggest problem is everything is heavy.

i tried gravity feed. i filled my fuel filter bowl and fuel was reaching the front of the injector block but mothing was pumping out. my shut off lever was pretty stuck i think i need to lube up all of the injector lifters and wat not. i only started it on eithe once to make sure it would run and it did, sounded nie too. but getting fuel into it was my problem, whih is why i wanted to put a pump on it. i have heard from a lot of people that it needs to be pressue fed, but u guys say gravity will work? i m confused
Gravity feed will serve to apply positive pressure to the inlet of the lift pump. If you bypass the lift pump on the side of the injection pump and feed directly into the fuel filter housing and your temporary fuel tank is higher than the filter housing, you should have fuel flow to fill the pump gallery within the injection pump. This will supply enough fuel to make the engine start assuming your fuel rack is not stuck. If the fuel rack is stuck, or frozen within the pump housing, there is nothing that will make the engine run till this is repaired, or loosened up. It is not difficult to do but a little time consuming. There is a cap that is hex shaped and screws out, or retained by two capscrews at the front of the injection pump just above the mounting flange to the engine. This covers the fuel rack. Remove this cap and there will be a round rod with a bolt screwed into it with a jamb nut holding it secure. You should be able to push and pull this fuel rack very easily with two fingers when the engine kill cable is not pulled to the stop position. If the rack will not move easily, you need to remove the pump from the engine, remove the side cover from the pump, and submerge the pump in diesel fuel for a few hours. Some have got lucky by just removing the side cover and leaving the pump on the engine but I've always pulled it off and never had problems getting the rack loosened. After the pump has had a good soaking, (diesel fuel is a very good penetrant) try to push and pull on the rack again. A little force may be in order here but not a lot. You can turn the pump shaft over by hand or with a wrench without too much trouble as the pump adapter will only install on the engine one way so you don't need to worry about timing. Inside the side cover there is a camshaft much like an engine camshaft that operates followers. These are the plungers and barrels and if a single plunger stays in the up position, and is not riding the camshaft, the fuel rack will be stuck and not let the engine start. I've taken a large screwdriver or chisel, and tapped the plunger spring back down. They usually snap back into position readily. After you get them back on the camshaft spin the pump again and ensure none stick again. Once they are all verified not sticking, reinstall the pump on the engine. I leave all the high pressure lines loose, but fastened onto the output fittings of the injection pump until they are all bleeding fuel when the engine is cranking and then tighten them up. When they are spewing fuel, (actually dribbling) tighten the lines, and crank on the engine. It will start to chug, fire, run rough for a bit, then smooth out when it starts firing on all cylinders.
My memory isn't quite what it used to be but that's the way I used to do it.

I'm not really into graphics such as displayed and do not like the visor at all. To me the package just does not come together. The "Transtar's" really were one of my favorite cabovers too.

Yup.
Longer hood to make room for a Cummins, with steer axle in the same location as a B61, rather than set forward like a B75.
Kinda the same but different I'm doing with my white B61. I've "split" the grille shell and going to weld in an extension of five inches to bury a CAC, and a/c condensor behind non functioning, cable operated shutters. The engine is an E6-350.

Obama, Democrats got 88 percent of 2008 contributions by TV network execs, writers, reporters

Senior executives, on-air personalities, producers, reporters, editors, writers and other self-identifying employees of ABC, CBS and NBC contributed more than $1 million to Democratic candidates and campaign committees in 2008, according to an analysis by The Examiner of data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.
The Democratic total of $1,020,816 was given by 1,160 employees of the three major broadcast television networks, with an average contribution of $880.
By contrast, only 193 of the employees contributed to Republican candidates and campaign committees, for a total of $142,863. The average Republican contribution was $744.
Disclosure of the heavily Democratic contributions by influential employees of the three major broadcast networks follows on the heels of controversy last week when it was learned that media baron Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. contributed $1 million to the Republican Governors Association.
The News Corp. donation prompted Nathan Daschle, executive director of the Democratic Governors Association and son of former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, to demand in a letter to Fox News chairman Roger Ailes that the cable news outlet include a disclaimer in its coverage of gubernatorial campaigns. Fox News is owned by News Corp., which also owns The Wall Street Journal.
The data on contributions by broadcast network employees was compiled by CRP at the request of The Examiner and included all 2008 contributions by individuals who identified their employer as one of the three networks or subsidiaries. The data does not include contributions by employees of the three networks who did not identify their employer.
The CRP is the organization behind OpenSecrets.org, the web site that for more than a decade has put campaign finance data within reach of anybody with an Internet connection.
President Obama received 710 such contributions worth a total of $461,898, for an average contribution of $651 from the network employees. Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain received only 39 contributions totaling $26,926, for an average donation of $709.
Ninety-six contributions by broadcast network employees to the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Senate and House campaign committees totaled $217,881.
Thirty-eight contributions by broadcast network employees to the Republican National Committee and the Republican Senate and House campaign committees totaled $23,805.
Among the individuals in the data are ABC News president Lloyd Braun, who contributed $1,000 to the Our Common Values PAC, which is associated with White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, and ABC Radio Networks president Jim Robinson, who gave $250 to GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson.
Other individual givers found in the data include ABC reporters Sarah Amos, who gave $1,285 to Democratic presidential aspirant Bill Richardson, Clarisa Ward, who gave $500 to President Obama, and Kristina Wong, who gave $400 to the Democratic Party of Virginia.
Notable contributors found in the CBS data include "journalist" Seth Davis, who gave $2,750 to Obama, CBS Corporation vice president and editor-in-chief Jane Goldman, who contributed $250 to Obama, CBS Radio "host" Mike Omeara, who gave $1,471 to Obama, and "journalist" Beverly Williams, who donated $200 to Obama.
Among NBC contributors were Saturday Night Live producer Jeffrey Ross, who contributed $500 to Sen. Chris Dodd, D-CN, former NBC Today Show weatherman Willard Scott. who gave $500 to the Republican National Committee, NBC Universal CFO Jennifer Cabalquinto, whose donations to Obama totaled $1,200, and NBC Universal "editor" David Mack, with $250 to Obama and $2,300 McCain.

Yes, this was kinda comical when I pulled it from the truck. They are sound welds, but look terrible being so many of them. My son actually bought me a duplicate tank in very near new condition to replace this one, but I've not mounted it yet.

That's what I'd do if it was mine.
Don't forget to pressure test all the welds with soapy water, and re do any pinholes before re installing the tank.
Hi Herb. You mean like someone did seven times to my passenger side fuel tank?? There are also three patches on the large air tank, but I don't have photos of that.

yea it has an alternator and on the tag where it says ground it is blank and im not sure where the voltage regulator is,if you could tell me that would be great,also i would really appreiciate it if you could post that diagram
Sounds like someone has installed an internally regulated alternator on the engine. This would eliminate the need for the firewall mounted voltage regulator. The truck is likely switched over to negative ground as I've seen several reman alternators that are not polarity marked when negative ground, but marked with either a "P", or "positive", if positive ground.

ok rob i have 4 battery cables 3 of them go to the parralel switch (2 on top 1 on the bottom)and the 1 cable left goes to the starter(24volt),also we got the truck running and she ran good we push stareted it
I have a diagram at the shop that is easy to follow. I will scan and post it over the weekend.
Does the truck have a generator, or alternator? The voltage regulator will have one of the mounting tabs for the wiring marked for pos, or neg. This will be indicative of ground polarity also. The series/parallel switch will work with either polarity depending on how it is wired.

I've spoken recently with an officer of the club and our concerns are being heard. They will be trying to address the problems/issues within the club and it is recognized there is room for improvement within.
I'm still interested in forming a chapter as few around here share my hobby as there is no representation local I'm aware of.
I'll keep everybody posted on progression.

NO DOUBT! i saw somewhere today that raleigh set some kind of record this summer,something like 38 days over 100 degrees! i made a lot of deliveries in the raleigh/durham area this year,and i think it was as hot as i've ever seen it anywhere! me, i'll be glad to see some cooler weather!.......Mark

Worst smelling vehicles I ever had in the shop were used in hog lots. Two hours on the outside wash rack with a pressure washer before you would even think of doing anything to the truck. Amazing how that smell will permeate any, and everything, then linger for days.
Sort of like that gift that "keeps on giving".

Being from jersey originally,i still try and keep up with the local news whenever possible,saw this and had to laugh! seems middlesex county,NJ is experimenting with spraying the local landfill trash with a "fragrant spray" to help combat the stink! checked out the article on NJ.COM and sure enough,i see an RD-series flatbed with a sprayer meandering through the dump! here are some pictures.....full article at www.nj.com........Mark
I've been using a similar product for years. I spray the backside of my shorts with the product, and my farts, they smell like roses!!

Information about Gonorrhea Lectim
The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new virulent strain of this old disease. The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectim. It's pronounced "Gonna re-elect 'em," and it is a terrible obamanation.
The disease is contracted through dangerous and high risk behavior involving putting your cranium up your rectum. Many victims contracted it in 2008...but now most people, after having been infected for the past 1-2 years, are starting to realize how destructive this sickness is.
It's sad because Gonorrhea Lectim is easily cured with a new drug just coming on the market called Votemout. You take the first dose in 2010 and the second dose in 2012 and simply don't engage in such behavior again; otherwise, it could become permanent and eventually wipe out all life as we know it.
Several states are already on top of this, like Virginia and New Jersey, and apparently now Massachusetts, with many more seeing the writing on the wall.
Please pass this important message on to all those bright folk you really care about
