What about dialithium crystals like the starship Enterprise used in the mid 1960's? Five years and no need to refuel on a single mission. Sounds like a plan.

I park my truck at Klean Wash in Morton.I live in Marquette Heights.My truck is a maroon IH leased to LSI of Eagan Mn.Been there about 7yrs.I'm also on "letstruck"
I don't really visit other trucking websights other than an occasional "peek" at largecar. There are enough people here picking on me regular, and don't know if I could take another.
I usually run by there about once a week on my route. I'll look you up sometime. I usually run over on 74, and back on Rt. 9 when I work the Bloomington airport.

Exactly why he was placed in charge of the project. Experience does have it's merits.
I hope he doesn't get caught. Stealing the nose off a vintage "Corsair" fits the category of "heinous crime".

I'm looking at Mack for my next truck.My current truck is a International 9200 with 515hp ISX 1750lbs and 3:58 rears with 13spd.Looking on Google search things do not look good.The ISX has been a nightmare.How are the 2011 and 2010's doing in the fleets?
Where are you at in Morton? I'm in Farmington.

Randy's radial engine B model should really scoot going backward cause the prop rotates to the right looking from the rear of the engine and not as the depiction represents. This is true with both Pratt&Whitney, and Wright Aeronautical engines.
Must be technologically correct you know.

Good morning Ernie and thanks again for the effort to post the photos. One measurement that would be very nice to have is the distance from the centerline of the steer axle beam to the center of the front cab mount. There is a deformation of the lower cowl panel just above the front end bell of the fuel tank on your truck. This panel is the same on all R model truck cabs. The cab mount is how the setback is determined. This distance is right at 48" on my RL797LST.
I'm thinking if I set my cab back an additional two inches there will be enough clearance for the turbine housings and heat blankets, but I will still need to do something with the radiator mounting area for a cooling fan.

Thanks Ernie for taking the time to post these for me. Certainly clears up some questions and way it was gone about. The underside of the hood is the third style of reinforcing ribs I've seen on 700's. Quite interesting to see your alternator and compressor driven from the back of the engine given the proximity to the firewall. They would be difficult to service. I'm not certain I can mount my compressor on the rear due to the turbine housings may be in the way. The cowl extension panel appears to be about 4" or 4.5" in depth and really quite easy to make. Be a little more difficult to form the cowl side extensions without making the part a weldment but can be done. Looks like the cab could be set back almost any depth and the difference made up by the extension panel provided the front cab mounts could be modified to allow mounting, (my truck uses a "splayed" frame and the front cab mount arms mount on an angle). My front mounts also support the fuel tanks.
The task doesn't seem quite as "formidible" now.

I need to pull the PTO from my RTO-12513 trans and reseal due to leakage. What is the drivegear backlash supposed to be for a used unit? It is a 442 series Chelsea, mechanical reversing, and does run though a spacer plate. It is mounted on the rt. side of the trans if anybody has a book for reference.

I like the 50's, 60's and the 70's so I have a bit of each. The 51 A40 is my favorite truck, the B models are just classy in the true sense of the word, and the R models just drive well with excellent visibility. I like the looks of the long hood R700 series.
The Peterbilt, well, I don't own one of those things cause walking home after the journey makes my ankles swell.

I found some info on these "giants" and most were manufactured by the same commpany, in a variety of configurations,paul bunyan being the most popular,but i know of some other types as well,the viking is at a carpet/flooring store right down the street from my mom's house,the one-legged guy is at a popular seafood restaurant about 12 miles from my old house in jersey,the real guy lost his leg to cancer,and would sit outside smoking a big stogie,greeting people as they went inside,pretty neat guy to talk to! and a damn good place to eat!..............Mark

I bought one Rob, the instructions said to fill it with 10wt oil and smack it, didnt have much luck with it like that. I think I will stick some grease in there. I have had luck using porta powers on them before, taking zert out, screwing fitting in it and porta power though. randyp
I have seen as you mentioned used but mine looks like a hand impact driver you would place a phillips bit in the end of to loosen frozen fasteners. You unscrew the cap, fill the chamber with grease, replace the cap, place the grease fitting that is on the end over the zerk, and smack it. Instant pressure exceeding 10,000 psi is applied to the zerk. Usually the old and hardended grease is punched through and the joint will now take grease easily.
If you put chassis grease inside the porto power pump barrel it will probably not work again until completely cleaned out. They don't have a preload spring against a piston as a hand grease gun does. Also most porto power assembly are pressure regulated at 10,000 psi maximum to be able to sell them in this country.

Rob i have seen those grease gun deals to years ago but ant seen one in 20 years. Dont try it on a elbo zert.
Yeah, it shears them right off!! Learned that the somewhat hard way on a leaf sping zerk that was 90 degrees. Kinda hard to drill them out when you can't get to them without removing fuel tanks, or battery boxes for clearance.

When you get it all figured out, come on over and get the springs out of my truck LOL!!! Left front looks kinda beat and the rear bushing won't take grease. It's on the "to do list" for someday.
I got is figgered out today. The spring eye bushings and shackles bushings both need replaced at a minimum. I jacked the truck up till just having the tires clear the floor, and placed a porta power on the floor pushing against the front, and rear spring eyes. They moved about 1/4" each taking up play.
I'll pull the springs after the South Bend trip and haul them to St. Louis for work. They can hot rearch and rebush them to OEM spec. I'll have new ones made if they are defective. Really like the truck and it runs/drives great but I don't like the "lean" at all.
I have an "Alemite" grease gun you smack with a hammer to make frozen zerks take grease. You pack this thing full of grease, attach it to the frozen zerk, smack it with a two pound hammer and about 12,000psi of grease pressure usually breaks something loose. I've not seen one like it in several years but I'll loan it to you.

I seen that. We all make mistakes in life. It's how we learn from those mistakes and lessons that makes us what and who we are. Sounds like SAC learned rather well of trying to operate one of those things and has discovered how easilly the negative experience is left behind.
