  1. In The People's republic, floor drains are only to keep stuff from going out the door and go into a tank that you have to mainatin and empty etc. You can't polute or chance poluting the ground with melting snow etc. I believe Dad had to plug his up in NH as well. Shops are always too small so build build as much as you can afford. In the northern areas, snow sliding off a pitched roof is a hazard. Doors out under the eaves can get tricky. I know one guy with a building who wishes he had a flat roof instead of the pitched roof..I'm not sure that is the answer but something to consider. The stuff you put up to keep the snow from sliding off and killing you is only a marginal measure as well. They fail or tear loose so the snow slides and the roof needs patching...a real pain.

  2. I always think would I put that much weight behind one of to days diesel pickups after all there in the 350 hp and 850 trq range.

    Neat history.

I don't think they would fare too well for very long...they are not intended to run full throttle all the time..is the horsepower rating the same for each?...brake horsepower vs. SAE net HP? I'm not sure it is the same...I should know that and I don't.

  3. She looks like she still has a lot of promise left in her. I guess knowing if the engine is good bad or otherwise is a big piece of information. Once you know if it runs well or not you can probably see a clear path. I like the fact it is a tractor. Is the dump box really made up with plywood or am I seeing things? Either way, many guys have made nice trucks from less...

I can't imagine driving a unishift that would hang in neutral all the time...sounds dangerous and frustrating.

Keep us posted and good luck. I hope it runs great and doesn't smoke.

  4. It is a luxury but even a hand geared overhead bridge crane is an excellent tool when working on heavy stuff...My Dad has one in his shop and it has always made jobs easy for one man to do, no matter how heavy the load. I'd start at 5 ton capacity and go up. You can do one bay or the whole thing...covering the whole floor is the most flexible arrangement of course.

I like the radiant heat concept too...If I ever wind up owning the old man's place I'll have to look at some serious insulation as there isn't any...I think I could just use 4" refer panels all over to make it toasty/cool depending on the season.

  5. EPA fines oil refiners for failing to use nonexistent biofuel

nEW yORK TIMES, JUNE 22, 2012 BY HOWARD PORTNOY

Question: Do you fill your car’s tank with gasoline that is part cellulosic ethanol, an environment-friendly distillate of wood chips, corn cobs, and switch grass? Let me answer for you: No, you don’t. You couldn’t if you wanted to. Petroleum products blended with cellulosic ethanol aren’t commercially available, because the technology for mass-producing cellulosic ethanol hasn’t been perfected. None of which has stopped the Environmental Protection Agency from imposing hefty yearly fines on oil refiners. According to the The New York Times, in 2011 automotive fuel producers were assessed $6.8 million in penalties. That amount is expected to climb dramatically this year. Guess who ends up footing the bill for the difference?

This has got to be the ultimate example of government bureaucracy gone mad. “fund additional research in cutting-edge methods of producing ethanol, not just from corn, but from wood chips and stalks or switch grass.” The following year.

The “advanced biofuel contribution” under the law was to begin in 2010 at 0.6 billion gallons of cellulosic biomass and rise incrementally, first to 1.35 billion gallons in 2011, then to 2 billion gallons in 2012, and so on. By 2022, 21 billion gallons of fuel pumped into the nation’s cars and trucks was to be cellulosic ethanol.

The law further stipulated that if refiners failed to comply with the EPA mandate, they would pay a penalty.

The only problem with this arrangement was that the grant recipients responsible for coming up with “cutting-edge methods of producing ethanol … from wood chips and stalks or switch grass” instead came up empty. In a 2011 report, the National Academy of Sciences concluded that “currently, no commercially viable bio-refineries exist for converting cellulosic biomass to fuel.” The report also noted that the renewable fuel standard “may be an ineffective policy for reducing global greenhouse gas emissions,” since the full life cycle of the fuel, including its transport, could lead to higher emissions than conventional petroleum.

Undaunted, the Obama administration has forged blindly ahead, continuing the elusive search for a technology that will produce cellulosic biomass—at taxpayers’ expense. Since thanks to the EPA mandate we are already paying more at the pump, the American people are truly getting nothing for something.

The sad part is that this had to really happen...you coudn't have made it up if you tried...This is what happens when you let stupid people vote and stupid people hold office...You get stupid...and you can't fix stupid...WOW!

  6. Maybe if they repeal the laws of physics and thermodynamics...I think what they are looking for is called a train...locomotive with many cars on a steel rail system. It would be a tremendous selling point to have a truck capable of that kind of efficency. If the cost were only $14K to make it happen it would have been done. Isn't it true that the emmison crap they have on the trucks now is driving eficiency DOWN?

I think a plan is needed but this sounds like a pipe dream to me. Why don't they mandate that trucks should be solar powered and get it over with...better fill the pantry now while the stores have stuff to sell...Dopes.

  7. Wow. It is certainly the unexpected that will give you problems and I think most of us have not anticipated that happening. I will make it a point to follow the OSHA guidance for sure moving forward. Let's all get the word out as much as possible to help our brothers stay safe and whole.

I trust you didn't suffer more than a concussion...those can be serious and debilitating. Whatever you do follow the Doctor's orders! I know we all have bills to pay and such but don't make a bad situation worse. Thanks for sharing, God bless and get well.

  8. Glad nobody got hurt or worse. It's too bad people can't just say they screwed up and be done with it. I guess they're all hoping Jesus is busy with something else at that point. Good luck with that. I can't figure how the truck allegedly speeding or failing to yield the right of way or any other scenario puts the nose of his car under your trailer tires without him being at fault...You would think that by the time the tractor went by he would have figured out there might be a problem ahead...Like 4 more tires.

Maybe he will go a little easier next time around...probably not.

  9. If the driver isn't responsible for seeing that everything that touches the rig happens properly, then who is? There are so many STUPID PEOPLE well intentioned people in the world you have got to rely upon yourself (or trusted Zero in this case) to make sure it goes right. Destroying a new trailer because you are so disinterested, uninterested or lazy to oversee it being driven off is an immediate termination if it were my stuff. I'd be even more pissed at the fact that he was not overseeing it and used laziness as an excuse to say "I didn't do it." Tell your next boss your an idiot...have a nice life. I've got a number of teenagers that follow that mindset. Must be the "new" generation.

  10. If and when the enemy tries to take over, the peace lovers will be the ones they kill first...Don't mean that as a threat or anything, it's just reality. We have that kind of stuff because we need it, Peace through strength DUDE! Never bring hugs to a gun fight.

  11. Patience, heat, PB blaster and add some patience. I like the ideas from 41chevy for sure. I've used heat with PB blaster like the candle concept and it appeared to work although was stinky and smokey...ventilation is a must. Don't breath that stuff particularly when it is 1/2 on fire...
