  1. Kinda wish I hadnt sold mine now, way fuel prices are going. I remember when diesel was .30 less/gallon. It really equalled about 30 % less, which would be 2.10/gal today. Maybe the IH DT360 today wouldnt be such a bad idea .....
  2. My 9.0 was l-o-u-d also (huh ?) I never hear anything good about 'em. But, mine was was the Geo Metro of trucks when it came time to fill up the tank. I dont know why the #$^$# IH made a DT 360, though. As far as the T444s I always hear good about them, but in a medium duty truck Id take a DT466 over one anyday. As far as the comments on the Renault powered Macks, I almost bought a rollback model about a year ago, but backed out because I had little info on the Renault diesel, and nobody could tell me anything about 'em.
  3. Dont forget Renault owned a chunk of AMC. As for the DT466s Im told the power isnt too high because IH want to push alot hp & have reliability to suffer. IH did make some not so good diesels in the past, the 9.0 aka DV550, the V800, etc.
  4. How long did Mack build the 237 hp Thermodyne - were they all 672 cid ? Any history would be appreciated. How much hp did they max out at ?
  5. Im thinking emissions were a contributor to Mack dropping it. I know Cummins made a 903 cid diesel and it had valve issues.
  6. I know almost nothing about em, how long did they make em ? What was the displacement ?
  7. Im a newbie here, just bought a 1960 B61 (it has a later 237 hp in it)and few days ago I was fueling up at a stop when I heard a awesome sound, turned out to be a Mack that pulled next to me. He popped the hood, and it was a V8 ! Can anyone tell me a little history & specs on this engine. It sounded as good as a old Detroit !
  8. Many stores already have the vehicles and even playsets. which are gas stations, etc. Already got the kid a few.
  9. That was one thing Detroit Diesels used to have going for them - GM had some sort of low cost parts rule. I do remember the 3208s having a 2 ring piston design for a while: What were they thinking ?
  10. Buddy of mine told me he just went through a CAT 3408 with a snapped crank. He said the new crank is $15,000. He even repeated himself when I asked him was he sure -
  11. I just might get it, neat looking truck. Might be worth spending the night in the doghouse from the wife. Im sure the Maxidyne 237 is a much better engine then the 9.0 My International has - thanks for the advo
  12. I located a 1960 B series Mack with a Maxidyne 237 hp engine. ITs solid, runs well, brakes work, need batteries & tires. Its a 10 wheel model, I know little about Macks. Thought It would be interesting to restore. Is $1,500 a reasonable price for one ? Anything I should look out for ?
