  1. post-61-1158449701.jpgpost-61-1158449664.jpgThanks to the owner of a local scrapyard,I was able to save another old Mack from death. When it came into his yard he had his crew unload it carefully and set it aside, then gave me a call. It's a EQT,serial # EQT1D9322D,original Lanova engine has been replaced by a EN510,Monoshift was replaced with a Duplex.Luckily it still had both rare Mack Diesel emblems. Also has a different grille shell than typical on the EQ's.post-61-1158449403.jpg
  2. I am pretty sure the k stood for kit, maybe Mike H. will have an answer. Terry :mack1:

RD600K would definately mean it was a glider kit. Before the gov't made everyone switch to the 17 digit VIN which is a joke to decipher, the VIN would have been RD folowed by numbers. My '76 R model was a glider kit,and the VIN was R2901.

  3. post-61-1157165219.jpgI have a '63 B46,in the attatched pic,it's the one on the left.Body is in great shape,but unfortunately,it doesn't run,the head was off when I got it and it's stuck tight.Heavy front axle and rears,14 speed Quadraplex.I'm pretty sure it was once a mixer chassis.The B46 is a fairly rare B model,only 473 built.
  4. IIRC the F model was introduced with 72" and 80" sleepers. Later a "bustle back" was added that lengthened the sleeper to 86" or so. The Cruiseliner was available with 76" and 86" or so sleepers. The MH Ultraliner had only a 90" or so sleeper option.

The short sleepers were built to pull doubles on the west coast primarily so you don't see them much in the rest of tthe country.

The Cruiseliners were 90" for the big sleeper. Both the short bunk F's and Cruiseliners are really hard to find today.

Were the sleepers on the F, cruiseliner/ultraliner MH all one size? Every F and MH I see has either a day cab or a short sleeper. I have seen an F model that has a sort of hirise top on it, was that factory or stock? Were any longer sleeper options availible?

That hi-rise top was an aftermarket kit, can't remember who made them, but they offered them for several brands of trucks.I've seen them on F-models,as well as White Road Commander's and IH 4070's.

  5. Well,Trent,I went back and re-read my post 3 times, didn't see once where I mentioned your name or who I bought the $100 worth of butcherd parts that I paid you $350 for, plus 100 gal of diesel it took to get them home.

As far as me being a scrap dealer, don't hardly qualify what I do as being a scrap dealer.I pick up old farm junk, appliances, and cars in the little spare time I have when not trucking.Never scrapped a Mack truck, never will. And like I said in an earlier post,if I have to take a part off a B in my back lot,I replace it so the truck can still be whole as possible, and not turned into a pile of dismantled parts, like the trailer loads of parts that I've bought from others that don't share my point of view.

As far as my preaching,if it saves one B model,it's worth it to me.If it offends someone,so be it.I'd rather offend a person than harm a Mack.

Maybe someday, after you've driven your B model more than 10 miles, you might just understand why I and so many others feel so strongly toward our B's.

So go watch Convoy again, then jump in that Cat powered Binder you drive and think up some more good ones.

  6. post-61-1152492592.jpgMy LT was missing it's Bulldog and mount when I got it.Thanks to Ebay my truck is now properly fitted.Never ceases to amaze me the stuff that turns up there if you keep watching.I had to sort thru several listings,as most listed had the old R style mount. Now if I can just turn one up for the W71.
  7. post-61-1152464137.jpgThat's the point I was trying to get across,ESD.You say they are too far gone for you to restore, but that doesn't mean they are too far gone for someone else. And who has to say they need to be restored. What's wrong with saving them and leaving them as is?I and many other appreciate the "as found" ones just as much as the 100 point full restorations.I've got quite a few "too far gone" B models happily resting in one piece in my back lot, safe from ever been scrapped or parted out into none existance.

What some of you don't realize, the B model Mack isn't just a truck. Each one has it's own personality and charm,no matter what condition it's in.The B model was the hardest working, most dependable and versaltile, and by far the best looking truck ever made. The B model is a legend and deserves our respect.

So by all means try to save these trucks, find them a good home,be it in your yard or someone elses, but don't drag them home just to make parts out of them.
