  1. The way I understand the difference between the camelback and noncamelback suspensions is this. Someone correct me if I am wrong. On the camelback suspension the center point where the u-bolts attach is higher than the points on the ends where the anchor pins fasten to the spring hangers, giving it a look that resembles the hump on a camels back? On a noncamelback suspension the center points where the u-bolts fasten is lower than the ends where the anchor pins attach to the spring hangers. On your exhaust question I think the main difference between wether a truck was built with horizontal or vertical exhaust most likely depends on how it was speced, when it was built but could have been changed at a later time. Hope this helps you out. Block.

  2. In response to what type of tire, that just depends on your preference. You can more than likely look around in the salvage yard and come up with a good set of tires off of a wrecked truck, drives and steers both maybe not all off of the same truck. Depend on the amount and location of damage. Hope this helps Block.

  5. I have some questions regarding the R and RS-700's and R and RS-600's I hope someone can help me with. I read a reply above from Superdog stating that this RS-700 should have an ENDT-866 V-8 engine. I have an RS-795 with ENDT-865 V-8 I have spec. sheets from factory still has same engine from factory, I know of a couple of R797 with ENDT-866 V-8 does the third number define which engine the truck came out with like it did in the B-Model numbering system? If so what numbers were used for these trucks equipped with Cummins, Cat, and Detroit engines? By the way all the trucks I mentioned above are 1974 Models. I have seen RS-700 with factory 12V71 Detroit and my father used to own a 74 RS-700 with Cummins from factory. Were any ever made with Cat? Also My Mack service manuals list the 866 as a thermodyne at 375 hp. and the 865 as a Maxadyne making either 322 or 325 horse depending on series. Thanks again and any help on these questions would be great thanks again Block

  6. Mack CF if your batteries are going dead while the truck is setting it more than likely has a drain somewhere. These can be hard to find. One way to stop this is with a battery disconnect switch, the come either with or without keys, and cost about 50 bucks if I remember right for the switch and cable ends to hook it up. Hope this helps, Block.

  7. are they both good? i believe i would like the air shift,it wouldnt take up much needed cab space. email me with a price and where in virginia you are. bobford2584@aol.com

True grit the answer to your question the high range gear ratios in the six speed are the same as the 5 speed. I think it is called a 6 speed is it was intended to start out in low first shift to high first then on uo through the other gears just a guess on my part. Block

  8. Doug Mack made 2 different 2 stick 6 speed Transmissions. the first one part number TRXL 107 had the following gear ratios. Low range 14.10 in first, 8.20 in second, 4.65 in third, 2.72 in fourth, and 1.64 in fifth. High range as follows 8.59 in first, 4.99 in second, 2.84 in third, 1.66 in fourth, and 1.00 in fifth. And the following ratios in reverse. 36.66 in first, 21.32 in second, 12.11 in third, 7.07 in fourth, and 4.27 in fifth. The second was part number TRXL 1071 The gear ratios in low range are as follows 23.08 in first, 13.42 in second, 7.62 in third, 4.45 in fourth, and 2.69 in fifth. The gear ratios in high range and reverse were the same in both transmissions. There were also air shift verisions of both transmissions part numbers TRXL 107A and TRXL 1071A. Hope this helps out Blocl.

  9. i am wanting to switch my r model from a 5 speed to a 2 stick 6 speed, for off road low gears. i have been told there are a couple of different 2 sticks, but i dont know. i have found one in a truck close to the same year as mine. one guy told me once he had a 2 stick in a log truck, and he had to use the second stick out on the road. the one i drove a while back had reverse, low and direct on the second stick, and 1-5 on the other.you didnt have to use 2nd stick out on the road, it just gave you some super lows and reverses. i got the numbers off the transmission i have found, some of the numbers may not be exactly right, cause i was laying in a briar patch under this truck trying to scratch and write. any help would be appreciated. doug

  10. I found a spray can of Mack light beige Mack part number 312sx106p1 this matches the interior on our companies 1975 DM 800. I also found a can of PPG Duracryl DIA 23789 dark beige that matches the interior three of our 1981 R-600 Macks.

  11. Hey Y'all I know Ive asked about this before but I was just wondering if anyone out there had an old bucket of the beige interior paint used in R, DM, and U models in the mid-70's to mid-80's... I cant seem to find anything close and I was trying to save from spending $200 on a gallon of paint. My last name might be Moneymaker, but that doesn't necesarilly mean I live up to it LOL... If no one has any of the actual paint, how about a code? The Mack place couldn't find me one. Thanks!
