Paul,
I was surprised to read that there are still remains of the operations. Are they located on the property where the landfill is? Are they accessible to the public? I went over by the memorial a few months ago and shot some pictures. It's great that those who worked there have been honored.
Thanks,
John

I've seen this truck on the roads of Long Island. Always looking sharp. Best looking DM800 out here.

Ernie, Do you deliver to Ferrara Bros in NYC? They added 2 CNG Kenworths this past year. Maybe they could give you some helpful feedback. Here is an article about the trucks from McNeilus's site: http://www.mcneilusconcrete.com/News.Releases.html?PressReleaseId=d8a3db9f-564d-44a2-b64c-adb90524fef2

I drove a T-800 with the same engine in it. It is used to haul fuel oil. If I got to the terminal to off-load and the yellow warning light was on, I would engage the burner and let it do it's thing. If it hadn't finished it's cycle, I would disengage it and drive away. Most times just driving it would clear it up. Even if the warning light wasn't on when I got to the terminal, I would hold down the burn button and see if it would engage.

I guess his "Body Up" light wasn't working , I guess its there for this reason huh!
I always wondered why there wasn't a "Body Up" light in any of the dumpers I drove. I too, was a victim of a similar event.

Thx Midnight. I was wondering about the dual CB antenna setup. There are no CB antennas there now but I do have a spare one at home. I need an external antenna for one of the satellite wires to wrap around so the AM-FM can pick up the signal. The sat. radio also has an external antenna that I need to mount on the roof. Just came across this: http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/xm_radio_wireless_fm_transmitter_modulator.aspx which might be an option also.
-
Thanks for your reply. Nothing on the drip moulding. They must have pushed the antenna under the roof. Guess I'll cancel my satellite subscription.

Just inherited an '06 Granite at work. I can't seem to find the am-fm antenna. I would like to hook-up my satellite radio and need to wrap one of the wires around the antenna. There is a truck-tracking antenna that is on the front of the roof near the marker lights. Could this be where the radio antenna was originally? The FM side works fine but the AM is all static. Wonder if they just pushed the antenna wire into the roof and left it hanging?
Thanks,
John

Good stuff right there. I miss driving a quadbox. By the way, what was that guy doing with his left leg? Up and down, up and down

There's something very fishy about this story.

Here are 2 images that are on Hanks Website:

Hess today was $4.05/ gal. in Smithtown NY
Exxon on Rt.110 and Rt.24 (Conklin St.) Farmingdale NY was $4.39/ gal.

Dam,I just paid 389.9 on Long Island NY,the owner of the gas station told me it will be over 4.00 by monday, soon I'll be looking at a dollar a mile to run my dump truck just for fuel.
I saw $4.19 for diesel at the Exxon on the south service rd. at exit 55. Seems any talk of crude going up, this station jumps right up. Such a thief. This is also on Long Island. The Hess on Rt.111 and the By-Pass is at $3.87. UGH

For 45LMSWM
They had 15-17 cu. yd Challenge Cooke barrels. They barrels were eventually cut down to 13 cu.yds. when weight laws became more strict. The rear pedastel was moved forward and the frame was cut back from the rear. Not positive about the water tanks, but 350 gal. seems to stick in my mind.

Thanks for that info! The pictures were taken from another members gallery. His forum name is Tyson and apparently he is a shop worker at Conforti or one that does work for Conforti. So I bet you know him already!
I must say that its pretty cool that you work for Conforti as I always liked their equipment. How long have you been driving for them?
And as for those F900 mixers, you say that FM Transit was the last company that had those mixers? I am trying to see if I can track down what happened to them but another member, John (truck1536), a former driver for Certified and the F900's believes they were either all scrapped, exported or both (I forget). If FM got a hold of a few it would be interesting to see what happened to them but I don't think FM is still around, maybe John knows? To me that would be the holy grail of a restoration candidate! And FM buying some of those old certified units gives me some new hope that one might still exist.
Thaddeus,
F&M had their own F-900's. They were not old Certified units. Scaccia, who was also in Jamaica, had a few of these also. I also remember growing up near Kings Park, on Long Island, there was also a 900 that had a fifth wheel on it pulling a sand trailer. It was seafoam green. Must have been speced for a mixer, it had an extended bumper on it. Certified had purchased 45 of these mixers new and kept all of them. The truck numbers went from 1521 to 1565. If you take a look here, http://www.macktrucks.com/assets/mack/ModelProduction1.rtf , I would say that the Certified units were Model# F985, showing 45 units built.

Hi Peter,
Good to see you back. Haven't spoke to you in a while. I will look around Long Island for a DM-800 dumper. I don't know if J.D.P. still has any left. Did you ever finish the F-900 mixer? Hope all is well.

I'm almost positive it is a triplex. I think who ever posted that video on youtube just mis titled it as a quad box.
I'm thinking it is a quad-box. Lo-Lo is up top to the left, a gear he would not be using starting off, unless the load, or terrain dictated otherwise.
