  1. Both the "MS" and its conventional twin, the "CS", were built by Renault using the same cab that was used on Ivecos, DAFs, etc. in the 1980s. Renault owned Mack at the time and these models

gave Mack two medium duty trucks to sell in the U.S. In the mid 1980s, I had a part time job driving an "MS-200" for an air freight company in New Hampshire. It wasn't a bad truck for the

job but the exhaust was located beneath the driver's door; some days you needed an SCBA to get in and out of the cab. The truck that I drove had a nomenclature plate that said it was

built in Brazil. I wish that I had taken a picture of it.

Closed cab B model with aerial ladder updated by Mack to diesel in 1976.

I don't think that I ever saw a "B" model ladder truck with a coupe cab. All the ones that I have seen in person or in pictures had an open or semi-cab. This one must be a rare version.

Did the posting say where it was from?

  4. One of many ex Long Island, NY Macks that ended up in NH, VT, and ME in the '70s and '80s. Some of them were in Unity, NH, Alexandria, NH, Aurora, ME, and Hopkinton, NH among others. Hopkinton's

was a "C" model straight ladder. About a year ago I heard that Unity's Mack was parked at the former Meadowood Fire Department in Fitzwilliam, NH. I don't know if it's still there. This is Alexandria, NH's

former "B" model, formerly Brooksville Fire Department in Port Chester, NY. Aurora, ME's "B" model is privately owned in CT.

I think I have pics of this rig before it was "customized".

Do you know if that would be Unity, NH? I know that Unity once had a 1958 Mack "B" model pumper, one of the many 1950s and '60s Long Island Macks that flooded NH, VT, and ME

in the '70s. I never heard that they had an FWD.

  6. I just found the equipment listing for the "CF" Aerialscope and it specifies a Federal #184 360 degree revolving red light on the cab roof. Hope that this helps.

  7. Nathan:

The first photo shows Nashua, NH Fire Department's 1969 "CF" ladder truck that was delivered with a single 360 degree rotating beacon. The second photo is the standard equipment

listing for "CF" apparatus in a sales brochure The listing only shows a 360 degree red revolving light on top of the cab; it doesn't specify a brand. I guess it was up to the department to specify the

light that it wanted or Mack put on its preferred brand.

  8. Probably avoided being scrapped due to the depression and World War II when new trucks were either not affordable or unavailable for civilian use. This resulted in many old trucks having their

work lives extended. It was fortunate to have an owner that valued it and kept it all these years.

  9. It also spent a few years in service with the Rockingham, VT Fire Department after Radnor sold it. Radnor bought it back from Rockingham. While in Vermont it was painted chrome yellow.

    Nice restoration.

  11. Milford, NH Fire Department Engine 3 used to run this 1964 IHC "Loadstar"/Farrar. Not sure of the specs but it may have been a 750FM/750. It later went to the Bridgewater, NH Fire Department;

    its whereabouts now is unknown.

  12. I'm impressed, also. I've never driven anything with that type of transmission but I can imagine that it's quite a handful travelling the narrow roads of southern NH and northern MA, especially if

you're doing a tanker shuttle. All the "B" model fire trucks that I drove had a five speed transmission, that was enough for me. In any event, that Swanzey tanker is a beauty.

  13. Dave:

Thanks for all the photos, they show the wide array of apparatus that Mack built over the years. There are still a few Macks in service in smaller departments in northern New England.

After years of departments moving away from Mack for tanker chassis, going to IHC, Kenworth, etc., a few new tankers have been built on Mack "Granite" chassis:

    Windham, NH - 2016 Granite/Rosenbauer, 1500/3000

    Rochester, NH - 2016 Granite/Toyne, 1500/3000

    Killington, VT - 2016 Granite/KME, ?/3000

    It's a start!!

  14.            This Chevrolet is a replica of the truck used by the Darling family, the mountain folk of Mayberry, on the "Andy Griffith Show". It is on display, along with a replica '62 Ford police cruiser, in Mt Airy, NC.

Mt. Airy is Andy Griffith's hometown and the inspiration for Mayberry. There are tributes to the show all over Mt. Airy and the "Andy Griffith Museum" is also there. We took a guided tour of the town

in the police cruiser driven by a guide who dressed and talked like Deputy Barney Fife. It was a great tour.
