I personally like the spyder painted the same color as the truck with a gray lockring,or the "classic" mack look,contrasting colors ie: green truck with mack red wheels and gray lockrings etc. but i also like what you have done with yours.......mark

Looks to me like he didn't have the spacers in the gooseneck and the trailer got hung up on the tracks because it didn't have enough clearance. Once that happens you're pretty much screwed if a train approaches before you have time to put the PTO in gear and get out there and use the hydraulics to jack up the trailer and get unstuck.

few years ago before i retired from the mines, Holt Caterpillar was bringing us a nice brand new D9, got lowboy hung on tracks, train came hiballing through and reduced it and lowboy to scrap really quick, and i do mean scrap, train was heavily loaded freight coming down grade and estimated doing bout 65 or 70,,,,Randy

The full flow is physically larger in length and has three hoses out of the bottom. One of the hoses is considerably smaller than the other two. Also I believe all the full flow filtered engines used an external oil cooler on the left side of the engine.

Thanks Rob, mine must be bypass, it has two hoses going into bottom, both come out of block about an inch apart from each other, all on left side, can mounted on left fender well, no oil cooler either,,,,thanks ,,Randy

my project is a 1961 B-61. we painted the engine this week. hope to start putting parts back on it next week. should be ready to put back in the frame in a week or two. i'll post another pick when we get all the parts and new hoses back on.

Sooooo, do you all think if I was to install my 11.00X20 tires on the road side of the drives, and my 9.00X20 tires on the curb side, I could stike me a deal with either M&M Mars, or Hershey's for making peanut butter with my Mack power divider? I do have a few 7.50X20 tires which could be used for a "finer grind" if need be but don't have the correct spacers for them.

I could market the idea such as: Rare Earth Mineral Candy.

sure would have to charge a lot for the peanut butter, you may have a lot of overhead expense in it, however dont know what the ratio of peanut butter made to power dividers consumed would be,,,may need to do some testing,,,randy

I was going through some old pictures today, came across one of the first brand new truck i owned, It was ordered in may 1988,was delivered in oct.1988 when it came in i was suprized to see it was delivered blue white white stripes! it had been ordered the other way-around at the time i was leased to atlas van lines and their policy was that the tractor had to be primarily white, so after a few choice words and a frantic phone call to evansville, i was able to get it worked out and stay leased on as-is (was) This was a damn good truck! it was an E-6 350,backed by a 13 speed roadranger,3:90 rears on 4 bag air-ride. I put almost 496,000 miles on it, and it was nearly problem free.I have always been a bit of a pain in the ass when it comes to my trucks appearance,kept them clean ,polished and well maintained, even back then people had a hard time believing it was an 88'.The man i sold it to 16 years ago was still running it up until this year pulling containers with it,and the last i saw it, still looked damn-near new! How many other make trucks that are 20 plus years old do you see on the road today? something to be said for mack longevity!....mark

Got a good review from the doctor concerning my back and he will now remove me from "light duty", (like I've paid any attention) but it's legit that I can go back at it full steam. Decided to celebrate in the shop tonight so got out the skid steer, unloaded the gantry crane from my trailer and proceeded to set it up in the driveway. Now you'd think with a building the size of mine I would set it up inside right?? Well, not enough room cause of all the important possessions that must be kept out of weather. This gantry is rated at three tons and is 17'4" between the uprights. The span of the legs with steel caster wheels is 6.5 ft., and it's adjustable from 10'2" below beam, to 16'3" below beam. This will give me at least 12'6" at a mimimum under hook height. It is completely air powered in the hoist with manual operation for and aft, and left and right. I have a two ton Coffing hoist from my bridge crane that I never set up with a powered trolley if I don't care for this one.

Gonna be nice lifting and moving some of this heavy shit around here without using the cherry picker, forklift, skid steer, boom truck, etc... It will be so much easier pulling/swapping engines around when there is nothing around the sides or front in the way.

Left the camera at work so I'll post up some photos in the next couple of days.

I love it when a plan comes together, Im in texas, was given a number of an establishment in springdale, ark., called and I had the honor to get to talk to the "GALION GURU" or the "GALION STALLION", and whatever other honors need to be bestowed on him, he got me lined out on above mentioned problem and questions. I recently bought a Galion 503 series A with GM-353, 3 speeed forward 1 reverse manual, according to serial number either late 1968 or early 1969. I was checking it out before putting it to work, both tandem boxes a little low, no check plugs on side but atamping on side says where oil level is supposed to be, large 1" fill plugs on top of each tandem box, so devised my own wooden dipstick to get oil levels up, now then, there is a large drain plug at bottom of transmission,but there are no check plugs on either side anywhere I can find, and ii have crawled under it all day looking. The trans has a side mounted shift tower if that helps any, and there are small drain plugs at bottom of each tandem box and a large one in center at back where is guess you would call the differential. I cannot find any other place to check oil in trans, or differential. My question is,,is it possible that this trans, differential, and tandem boxes all share common oil? I have really scratched my head over this one.,,thanks,,,randy

dont know if this helps any but oil level mark on side of tandem boxes is about the middle of the axles,,randy

Although I could be incorrect, I believe the dot law concerning air brakes is federal.

YES,,,the air brake law is federal and nationwide, theres even a separate test when you take your CDL test, its a good idea to get CDL anyway,,lots of things in test booklet that are good to know and will come in handy,,,well thats my 2 cents anyways,,,randy

I too like the Power Service line of products. Use it quite frequently in fact. Our local oil distributor, (Mobil Products) and good customer of mine for many years custom blends fuel adding some type of cetane booster. I believe it is Siloo, or Schaefer brand. I also have one gallon of two cycle oil mixed in at the plant per 100 gallons to make up for the lacking of lubricity these older engines require. Not noticed any problem with too much smoking but old Mack, and Cat engines really put it out anyways.

Later this spring or early summer when I have my B67 back together, (I'm still healing) I'm going to start using it often as you do yours. A friend of mine wants me to have his 1968 Austin Western grader which is about the same size as yours with a full cab that needs reskinned. It also has a 3-53 and runs well. It is small and could be very useful around here.

Rob, I looked pretty hard at an austin western grader before I bought this one, kinda liked it, design and all, bout the same size as galion but it going to require a little more work, time, effort, and money to whip into shape, I think it was a 68 too. Im going to check the galion out pretty good in the morning, tandem oil levels and stuff like that, move it to a driveway job that all i like on it is just finish grading, then take it back to yard and start tinkering on it,,,needs gauges,,engine stop cable, couple of o-rings on valve bank,,just little stuff. I do know it is gonna cut my dozer track wear down considerably, I been finishing out farm roads and driveways and all with dozer and it adds too much time and wear,,nobody wants dozer cleat tracks in their roads so have to always backdrag my way out to get rid of them,,I think its really gonna simplify and speed things up a lot. I also may not be mixing enough 2 cycle oil, I dont mix near that much, was kinda depending on power service to boost lubricity a lil bit,,claims it does anyway. I been using a pint to 50 gallons,,think I ought to sweeten it up a bit more?,,,Randy
