Short Description: My beater of a vehicle, a to B and anything in between

Well, I am almost 18 and one of the first things I want to do it start preparing for my CDL. Although interstate commerce is not an option or necessity for me, I would still like to drive a larger truck. I would like to know what I will need to get started, such as how to get training (we have friends with small trucking companies if that helps), where to begin and how to get there. I suppose the DMV has a book on this, but I would like some words of experience. Thank you for any responses. Also, I have my first medium duty truck now! A 1955 Ford C-600 dump truck.
-
Fuel prices are disgusting...I will not even get a chance to drive the truck I want. Who in the world controls the prices anyway!? Back to horse and buggy unless an alternative fuel source is made popular...

The forum has been changed more than a little, it is now strictly a forum for industrial machines (Textile, others soon to come). I deleted all the old members, and this one will be clean.

LOL, terror cat.

I might just get another 401 to replace it, but would there be anything that I could do to improve milage? I figure putting a new exhaust on it (from headers to tailpipe) would help slightly.
-
I have been told that the 401 gas get's around 8 MPG, and I would like to know what newer engines would fit in it. I am aiming for better gas milage, and my pick-up has a 360 that I could rebuilt if the bolting pattern matches. The truck does not really need a lot of horsepower seem's how it has a 20 speed transmission and 8.15's right?
-
The truck is at a JUNKYARD. I do not have any way to bring it to a garage, for I do not own it.
-
That has nothing at all to do with this topic. The truck does have air brakes., tandem axel. I have no clue of what the whole "inline" and such are.
-
I would like to buy a second, seperate truck to make a speed demon from. The truck would have to be diesel, seems how the other one is gas. I will go to that giant junkyard with all the B-models to find that project truck some day.
-
I will keep the rears and knock the box off it. The box is rotten, so I will make it a platform dump or regular tractor when I buy it.
-
What would the average cost of new drums and what not be for the older trucks? if a tire/wheel size is needed for this price, I will run to the junkyard tommarow night. I would guess that it will need all new brakes, seems how it is only used once a year, and has not been touched after '84.

Visit My Website It has a bunch of topics for you to post other stuff in, as well as your trucks/cars.

I collect Air Raid Sirens, I own only one siren at the moment. My first siren is a Federal enterprises Model 5, which uses a single phase, 220 volt 32 amp 5 horsepower electric motor. The DB output is 107@100' with a range of roughly one mile (+).

Well, I am going to clean all the gunk off the the rear-end, and attempt to reconnect the wires. I am just curious as of to why they are off in the first place.
-
Thanks a ton for the dimmer switch hint! I think I have found it thanks to all the help here.
-
There is a few yellow wires that are hanging under the frame, my step dad said they were going to it I believe. If anyone wants to see them, or any other aspect of this truck to help me figure this crap out, feel free to ask! oh, and the shifter does not have a switch on it.

on the '76 international dump truck my family just got, there is a box off the side of the pumpkin. The damn truck will only do 35 in fifth gear floored. On the dash there is a factory sticker which explains how to use split shift, or a two speed rear-end. In the truck there is not a lever, or visible button to change the rear's ratio, so my question is what is the real purpose of the box?
-
That orange truck looks pretty mean.
-
i know, and i have looked there! but the bids get very high, and i can not afford shipping! that is why i need to find one here, in new york. i can go pick it up myself and take some kind of pointless pride in shaking the ex-owners hand.
-
I noticed that in mad max beyond thunderdome there is a B-mod in the "underworld" which later they use as a getaway vehicle! Also in the road warrior there is the R-600 used as a transportation for a triaxel tanker full of sand. The R-600 looks awsome! Where the B-mod is used more as a train...
-
well, i have no intension on using it untill i move into the darkest most empty place i can find. i dont really have neigbors, i am on a dead end road! Also, please only post in here if YOU HAVE ONE TO SELL, or know where there is one just sitting around.
-
Yes indeed, i am looking for a air raid siren. i didn tput this in the want ad section seems how that is for trucks, and that not a lot of people look in there! So if you have one or know where i can get one in NY contact me or just post.
