that thing looks real good,,i was hoping you lubed all the cylinders and the turbo before you turned it over,,but best of luck..with it...bob

I was talking to Joe (mechanic) about that. what we did was crank it over with the the rack closed to get oil pressure up. Maybe I should have done it differently but that was his advice.

I am concerned about the Turbo though, it takes a few minutes to start to spin up when the truck is started. I am still looking for the "reason" it was parked other than electrical. There is clearly a problem there. Sadly it has been pouring here for the the last 2 days so I have not gotten much done except getting the roll pin out of the brake pedal. Which Was a giant PITA...

I ended up cutting it and even then it was a chore to remove it. My whole assembly is junk anyway so I did not feel too badly but I need to source a new one.

Be careful with plunger not sure how far you have it apart but on R model there are bolts to hold pedal mount to floor and other bolts to hold valve to base

I have the pedal off at this point, I am going to clean up the area more and soak it. I can get it to tap in a little but not out so I am thinking of cleaning the exposed parts with steel wool and maybe going in then out but IDK

I am all open to ideas!!

Here is the promised interior picks before cleaning which is happening after the kids go to bed because I can not stand it anymore

  3. It is actually a Versatile 256 in Ford livery. the PO had all blue so he painted this one to match.

I got the pedal off today but it took a saws-all and 3 hrs to get that pin out. It was completely frozen, I just started pouring lube on the piston.  The Swamp mats in the photo actually came from the utility company, they used them run power line roads but the Army Corps of Engineers made them take them out so I got a boatload.

I will get some interior pics up today. I got so pissed off working on the pedal, I needed to step away for a bit.

Not sure how I am going to get the plunger to come out. I can actually tap it in so I think I can coax it out.

Seattle is the land of milk and honey for salt-free, restorable vehicles. Sure most sleeper trucks wander into the salt belt, but some don't. Good luck on your project!

    Thanks,

I have been meaning to commont on this, We have a farm in Wico but buy everything out here. The Salt makes most things useless bak there. By the time you replace all the fittings and clamps that are rotting away, you discover frames that are disintegrating and body mounts that are gone etc.

It's just not worth it VS finding something here or in Cali/TX away from the ocean and moving it.

  5. I was looking for the manuals online and I can only find a giant set of 4 dooks for this truck, I did find a place called Candtruck.com that has several in various states so they are looking for some of the grill parts and tool box doors for me.

Does anyone know if the high low shifter is the standard eaton fuller? I can not seem to track down much info or will Mack be able to help me?

This is the shifter I found and it looks correct https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hi-Low-Range-Valve-Eaton-Fuller-Old-Style-Shift-Knob-A3546/151799542752

I do not want to bug you guys and I am appreciative of all the help, If there are resources I should be utilizing please let me know as I am not seeing much for info.

    Thanks

  6. It came to life today and smoked out the neighborhood. Once it started picking up enough cylinders to spin the turbo it sounded pretty good. I will try to get the video up tonight but I was not expecting it to start this morning. It just kinda.....Did

I am still fighting this cab electrical thing. Curious if anyone knows where to find a parts book for the tractor or will Mack still have it. I am going to test this Solenoid if the kids cooperate this afternoon.

  7. Joe and I have been going back and forth for the future, I think because he has a series 60 he wants to offload LOL

As long as it runs or can be fixed, I would prefer to leave it...... What is it Mack 350?  I have been doing some research and finding they are pretty good motors but the oil pump does not live as as long as the engine does. Will replace that but it has 60-90LB of oil pressure when running so I think it is solid.

Still trying to figure out the electrical in the cab. Someone has taken all the bulbs out of the lights so I have no doubt it has a bas short somewhere. Is there a cutoff switch or what is that soleniod below the main breaker tied to? What does it even do? I might start chasing wires this afternoon but I really want to drive it a moment first and make sure it has all the gears. So some electical and tires.

    Thanks All

  8. Here are some photos of the motor and of that pedal, the base is pretty corroded so I want to source a replacement somehow. I will try to put some heat to it today.

I was a little scared as it is corroded alumimum. She did fire off this morning and it is dumping air out of the bottom of the high low shifter. I am not sure if that is a little ball valve that lost the ball or is just stuck in the unload position but I need the figure that out as well.

Thanks for everyones help, here is yesterdays updates for fun

  9. Well, that pedal plate is killing me, and the electrical is also giving me some problems today. There is a solenoid, pictured that I think might power the cab, no ideal but it looks it has 12.8v to one side and 0 to the other with 9.2v to the small post. I might put a wrench across it and see what happens but I have a feeling something got hot at one time so I wanna take it slow with that one.

I can get it to start to roll over with ether but not prime iteself so I filled the filters with fresh diesel and waiting for the batteries to charge now.

Other than that I have been trying to get the pin out of the darn foot pedal to get to the plunger and that has been a challenge. I did put the tage for the motor, not sure what it means I will start looking it up tomorrow.

As far as the wife, she knows she is apreciated, I am lucky but I feel this truck might cost me at the negotiating table for future disussions. Just Sayin  I think she gets what she wants now.....

  10. I have not rolled the engine over yet, but I did check the injection pump. I want to fire it once before I do filters so I can get the oil moving around in it. The plan is to roll it over a few times with the fuel shutoff in the off position so I can test to see if the rack in the injection pump stays free.

Thanks to everyone here and some vigourus nonrecreational pumping I managed to get the cab up and over. I realized that it slowly leaks down fast so you need to outpump it. Fitbit says the heart rate got up to 135 LOL I think I am going to move it up to a heavier weight oil so it is a little less leaky or find a new pump.

I am going to pull the aircleaner off and make sure it has not become an apartment.

While this is a fun project, I really want to clean it up and for it to live again as a great looking working rig. I have a preference for older things and new lives plus the lack of electronics and relative simplicity is a benefit for us on the farm. I am debating putting a series 60 in it and a 13 speed someday but not sure.

Thanks for following along! With the shutdown its cool to have some company with this, if only virtually :)

  11. Hey all,

I pulled this out of the some guys yard the other day and I am getting ready to start it but I have a question or two if someone could help.

    1. raising the cab, it says on the jack there is a manual release but I cna not find one anywhere, other trucks have them box on the passenger side. Either way this will not raise. The pump could be bad or there is a catch somewhere I am missing. I would appreciate any help.

    2. the brake pedal is stuck solid and the alluminum base is pretty corroded. Are these still vailable?

Looking for some of the plastichrome parts, Are they available still

    Thanks in advance all.
