  1. Apple Valley, Ca. Something is going on around it. They have been cleaning up the yard, hauling off old trailers and such. I don't know what the plans for the Autocar are. I never see anybody there but stuff disapears.
  2. This one has been parked in the same spot since 1974 that I know of. I've asked the people that rent the house behind it if they knew anybody I could contact but no luck. It has a 280 Cummins and is a 2 stick. I don't know what year. Early- mid 60's? It's in SoCal. Hit me up @ Spoink142@aol.com if you want directions to it.
  3. This is me in my Petercar. 5x3. My main is near my leg and the brownie is near the passenger seat. I think your Macks are opposite. Same principle though.
  4. I cant right now. My parents are not well. Dad has Dementia and mom has Osteoporosis. I do all the harder work around the house.
  5. Well the driveshaft was the straw that broke the camels back. I originally bought the truck to put it to work. Fixed things as I could afford to. Last winter I got layed off so it sat. Now with Ca's new laws I cant work it. I Basically put my life savings into it in an attempt to use it and now I cant. Thanks Ca.
  6. I just dont have the $$ available to buy the tool. I have put the truck up for sale.....Vibration included.
  7. I gave up. I got the slip yoke apart and was going to slide it onto my old shaft to see if that helped any but the spline count is much different. The driveshaft and 1 U-Joint are still stuck to the rear end of the truck.
  8. No it has a huge amount of slop. I can turn it on the trans end 1/6 of a turn or so before the slop in the splines catches up and then it tries to turn the pinon gear. I have a parts truck but it's shaft is shorter. I'm hoping that the yoke is ok and I can find a shop that can put the good yoke on the longer shaft. I just spent 30 minutes with a huge hammer trying to get the U-Joints in the good shaft to let go of the yokes. So far they ain't movin ........I got it soaking in penetrating oil.
  9. I spent some time under it today. It seems that my rear driveshaft(the one I had balanced) has a lot of slop in the splines. I'd say about 1/6 of a turn. This makes the u-joints out of phase. Infact I'm a little worried.......It won't be long untill it totally strips out and the truck won't move anymore! As a tempory measure can I pull the shaft and turn it around? This would give it a less worn surface. Right now the slip yoke is up at the auxillary trans. Can I pull the shaft and put the slip yoke at the rear axle instead?
  10. All this Pete bashing is making me sad.
  11. I took it out to lunch today and really tried to figgure out what I got going on. For starters my LF steer tire was bouncing. I took the truck to a tire shop and had it balanced. It was out 12oz. While it was spinning on the machine I can see that it's not perfectly round. It's better now in the front. I still have a vibration and a noise between 50 and 70 mph. It vibrates my butt and tickles my foot when It's on the gas pedal. I can look back and see the RR mudflap hanger is dancing around a lot more that the LR one. Over 70 mph it does get smoother but not perfect. IMO I don't have any business going that fast in it anyway. It's always had a vibration. I have replaced the junk tires on it with other "Less junky" ones but still have the same rims. Also when decelerating from high speeds it has a growl but I don't know where that noise is coming from yet. I took it to another shop and they say for $250 they will put it on the dyno. I'm thinking that might be my best choice. I don't want to be anywhere near the driveline @ 70+ mph.
  12. Thanks guys. I have checked to make sure that the yokes were lined up correctly and I did not seperate them when I got them back from the driveshaft shop. ASSUMING that the driveshaft shop balanced it correctly the shaft it's self should not be the problem. The truck was originally a 2 axle and someone made it into a 3 axle on Page&Page suspension and the rear axle it just a tag. They moved the original drive axle back about a foot when they made the truck longer. One thing I forgot to mention is that It never pulls anything. I just bob tail to lunch in it and to the truck shows. I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to get some weight on it and see if that makes any difference......Adding weight should change the driveshaft angle some I think. The problem now may getting the truck up to 60+mph with a load on it's back . A friend of my boss's also mentioned that a hub or wheel could be out of round so I need to check for that soon as well.
  13. My old truck which is not a Mack (Don't shoot!) has a terrible driveline vibration between 50 and 70 mph. I've had the driveshaft balanced and the U-Joints are good. If I'm going say 65 mph and I put the brownie in neutral I still have the vibration so that narrows it down to the rear end, driveshaft or the output on the brownie. I changed the oil in the rear end a few weeks ago and the magnet did have some "Fuzz" on it but not what I would consider unusual for 47 yrs old. No big gear chunks anyway. Now I have one question. When this truck was built the speed limit was 45 mph. The truck has 6.14 gears in the R170. Could the rear end just not be designed to run the speeds I run it? It originally had a slower main box that would have limited it to about 60 mph downhill. Sometime in it's past that got replaced with a 5 sp main with a real fast 5th gear. Below 50 mph it's ok and it's glass smooth over 70 mph. Thoughts?
  14. Ya what exactly was the ruling with the Historical plated trucks? I have not seen anything about em on the carb site. Whats this about saturday and Sunday only? Our local car show that I go to is on a Thursday.
  15. They did not totally remove ZDDP from any oils. They lowered it from around 1300ppm to 800 or so. There is still some in the oil and they have added more Moly and another anti wear agent that I can't remember the name of at the moment.
  16. They did not remove the ZDDP. They did lower it from something like 1300ppm to 1100ppm. I have sent several used oil samples from my 47 yr old Cummins and the Rotella-T 15w-40 does a great job in it. Depending on where you live the WalMart Supertech oil is either made by Mobil or Warren. The oil made by Mobil is almost identical to the Mobil Delvac oil. Thats whats goin in mine next. The Warren stuff is ok but is a notch down from the Delo, Rotella and Delvac oils.
  17. Thats about it. You have a sender that goes either into the exhaust pipe after the turbo or in the exhaust manifold before the turbo. When this sensor gets hot it creates voltage. Not much, like .50 Volt. The voltage goes up the wires to the guage. All there is to it.
  18. Here it is the day I brought it home.
  19. Hey I stumbled across this board today. Lots of neet info here I have a 1962 Pete 281. It has it's original 280 Cummins, a 5 speed main, 3 speed Brownie and 6.14 gears. It was originally a 2 axle and was sold to Standard Brands paint in the Los Angelas area. They sold it and Someone added some frame and put a tag axle under it with a Page&Page 60/40 suspension and used it to haul an end dump. I was told that it hauled from Long Beach to Boron, Ca. I believe it was working up to about 1979. The cab and dr side fender were very beat up when it was parked. It may have been layed on it's side. A previous owner put a better cab on it around 1998 after rescuing it from a lot where it had been sitting many years. It was originally green with a white stripe, later it had a White KW stripe addedlike this KW has. I talked to a guy that knew my truck in the early 70's. He said it would run! It was always the first truck back to the yard. I'm hoping someone can give me more history on it or even have a picture of it from 30+ years ago. Here it is during the cab swap in 1998. Thats the original cab on the ground. Heres some more recient pics.
  20. Hey. This is my 1st post on your board I have an old Pete but no trailer. Do you have acess to a trailer? Another option is Dalton in Fontana. The owner Terry is an old truck nut and may give you a break on the price.
