Looks like the ones on my 269's.

everything should be available for that starter.

They do require lube on the rear bushing.

I can also point you to a modern 12 volt if that is the way you are headed.

staying with 6V for now, the truck is pretty original. If you can point me to a vendor that sells parts I would greatly appreciate it! I'm having trouble locating it.

  2. Yes I have tested it with jumper cables, and I have opened the inspection cover. I also disassembled the entire unit, cleaned commutator and inspected brushes. The commutator is worn but otherwise ok. brushes ok. shaft spins freely by hand. When power is applied it draws some power but does not turn. My assumption is that one of the coils is burned out.

  3. Hi all! The starter on my departments truck seems to be dead. I think someone who didn't now what they were doing tried to start it, and cranked it to death.

The truck is a 1949 Type 45, The engine is a Continental ENF-330

    The starter is a Delco-Remy 1107456. (6V positive ground)

I have not had any luck locating a replacement off the shelf so far. If anyone has resources for a replacement or rebuild components I would appreciate any leads.

  4. I took our departments type-45 to the local high school car show today (not a bad day at "work"). It was very foggy in the morning and I had to use the ol' rag technique a couple times to clear the windshield - so I've decided it's time to finally source a wiper arm/blade. The truck hasn't had one as long as I've been associated with it.

Does anyone know what arm/blade assembly I will need? The wiper motor is a Vacuum actuated Trico unit. based on the windshield height, it looks like The total length of the arm/wiper blade should measure around 14" or so. It doesn't have to be the exact original one as long as it looks generally "period" and is functional. Any help appreciated.

Trying to get some old company members involved but right now the current owner doesn’t seem willing to sell. That’s alright really, supposedly the thing even still runs and he puts it around his property sometimes. Guy owns a lot of trucks, it’s in alright hands. Still going to try to get her eventually, but for now just knowing she’s still out there and in safe hands is good enough for me.

have you gone to see it yet? pictures?

Sorry about the glare.  I can email higher resolution pictures. Mike.

Mike Thanks very much this is super helpful! I sent you a private message regarding the high resolution/email. I find it super cool that this is a "factory" design and I'm looking forward to trying to recreate it. I'll post photos of what I come up with once I have some.

  7. Hello all,

Does anyone out there in Mack Land have a better picture of this corner scroll artwork? Or possibly an engine still featuring this artwork? I am trying to reproduce it on the engine in the picture which was repainted without regard to restoring the stripes, lettering, etc. I don't actually know if it was applied by Mack (perhaps someone here knows if Mack did graphics on the engines they produced?) or locally.

    Any help appreciated!

  8. Has anyone out there made a modification to the floor to allow easier checking of brake fluid? I'm thinking of cutting a hole and fitting some sort of access hatch or plug so that the fluid level can be checked without removing the floor, or my current method of choice- reach up from under the truck and stick my finger in the reservoir (does this make me a human dip-stick?).  Some may view this as a sacrilegious move, but I'm trying to remove barriers to safe operation in hopes that this rig will be cared for and operated into the future.

I've never been able to upload from a mobile device, but it works perfectly on a desktop.... maybe that helps. Would love to see your type-45

I have parts from my 48 EF that I want to sell.  The reason for selling is that I am putting modern running gears under the truck.  Lets talk on price, reasonable offers will be entertained.

    1 Rebuilt Carb

I might be interested in that carb if its the same as the one on my '49 Type-45 (EN-330) got a model #?

the serial number of Pacifica's rig is 45S-1521

Yes! That matches the 1962 California registration slip I have in the pile of papers I inherited. Thank you for the confirmation brother.

  12. yeah that looks more like the one in my pic, and the hole pattern matches. Now I know what i don't have :) kind of disappointing actually because I think the other ones look nicer. At least I'm not the only one with a bunch of stuff that's been painted over!

  13. I was able to scan an old set of negatives which show some of the trucks details before it went off to the prison paint shop ~20 years ago. unfortunately the quality is not good enough to see the details, but the tag loos somewhat different that the examples posted here unfortunately. and there is a smaller second tag of some kind next to the main one. oh well, I don't think ill be subjected to a highway patrol inspection during the annual parade ha ha.

Timing mark is on the engine flywheel.  Should be a little swing door on the bellhousing near the starter that will open.  4 degrees BTC is the spec.

With Pertronix, let them know if you are going neg or pos ground.

Perfect, thanks j, id never have found that! Pertronix got me the correct part number for the +ground delco distributor,  all good there
