  1. A good clear picture would be great. I am bleeding the brakes on my A-30 and I can't wrap my brain around what you describe. The bleeder screws on my truck look like regular bleeders only larger. There is an upper and lower and they take a 7/16 wrench.

got the last of 4 off today , a liquid blaster penetrating oil ,a little heat and got them all out and cleaned up , ready to replace the last brake hose on the front left wheel.

  2. Hi,what model truck do you have? Is your original air cleaner engine mounted or on the outside cowl mount or whateva? Why would it have to mount horizontally? What are you doing with the truck, i.e. a working truck earning its keep or just an old truck to drive and take to shows? Regards Jeffro

it is a ls85 fire truck and the air cleaner in mounted in the engine compartment ,the throat dia of the carb is 4" thanks

  3. Albert,

Check with your local NAPA supplier first, they may have some standard brake flex hose that will work, or they will know of a local brake shop that can make flex hoses. I went to National Transaxle and they can make up new brake flex hoses.

You can add a 45 degree fitting to the frame side if you wnat to make the hose flex less. Our 54 B75 does not have the 45, another 60 B95 does have the 45 degree fitting, so it can be piped either way.

You can also check with Whitepost restoration shops in VA. (look them up on the web) they restore all types of wheel cylinders, etc, and may also have the ability to make up the flex lines, if you cannot find anyone local.

  4. looking to replace the front wheel brake hoses ( from frame to wheel cylinders) where can I purchase , the hoses that are on their now don't have a swivle on one to make connecting easier, can a swivel be added? also same for the single hose at rear of truck (frame to rear) . 47 mack LS85,thanks guys

  5. I am seeking information with regard to my B85F Ladder truck. It is a 1957 model and when I purchased it about 2 years ago in New York the markings on it indicated that it was in service in Middleburgh in NY in the Catskills. I have since imported it to Australia where we undertook a complete restoration of it. It now lives in my large shed with my other restored Macks. A B613S, a R 600 (Flintstone-we call them here) and my R688. The b85F has a 75foot ladder and absolutely everything works like new. I took it for a run the other day and I had to hold it back when its speed exceeded our Australian Highway speed of 60mph, but it had plenty in reserve. It has the 707 gas engine with duel ignition. The serial number is 1298. I would love to hear from anyone who can provide me with the history of this vehicle so I can put it on the information board that I take when we go to shows etc. Original photos would be great. In anticipation. Thanks Linmac
  6. Hi Albert,

Like FireMack said about the ignition switches in a earlier post is what the 48' I have does, except my bezels got painted red from the factory........ Bob

P.S. the bulbs for the red indicator lights are a pain to get out and back in..

the pull knob on the left doesn't operate(can't pull or push it in or out) the knob on the right does operate, went pushed in (red light off) the engine will start and run ,when pulled out it seems to run better , these swiches must be for the dual ignition and the one on the left that doesn't operate must be stuck in the on position...... does this sound true???? thanks guys

  7. I am looking for a manual for my waterous pump. I believe it is a 1000 gpm pump and is in a 1972 mack cf 611 from NYC. I am trying to dismantle the pump to rebuild it and am having issues removing the bearing housing on the input side. it doesnt seem to fit off over the gear that is in there.

Does anyone have a manual for this pump or know where I can get one. If anyone has a manual for a similar pump that might be good enough. The waterous website doesnt seem to work or I think I could find one there.

    Thanks guys.

try the mack museum in allentown ,pa. they can also supply you with a service ,spec. manual and history of the truck , they will need the model and serial #'s , takes about 3 or 4 weeks.

  8. Hello all,

I need to know if anyone here knows what this style of diamond plate is called. I see it used allot on European trucks for custom decking, fenders etc and I was wondering if it is available here in the USA.

don't know the exact name ,but it is use by several fire truck manufactors

  9. Fill the resevoir first.... then with a helper attemp to blead the air out. start at the farthest wheel then work your way to the front. If your cant get anything to happen, you might as well start with a new master cylinder.

Your will most likely need the following componets

    1. Brake Lines, both rubber and steel

    2. master cylinder

    3. new bleeder screws or just the entire wheel cylinders (depending on how much acetylene or propane your use.... :D )

    4. Booster cylinder..

    5. possibly brake shoes, springs, adjuster kits etc.

    Good Luck!! :SMOKIE-LFT:

thanks for the advice, the truck has a hydr -vac system with a reserve vaccum tank on the other frame rail, I traced the line back from the reserve tank to the engine and and found it disconned (a pipe line from a sort of regulator on the firewall ) the line from this regulator to the manifold is gone and their is a plug threaded into the manifold. I don't know why it has been disconnected.
