  1. 41 chevy      you are on to it ,thanks mate. my old man was a pressure welder by trade ,I remember him telling me about it. here in oz there is a handbook produced by the transport department on chassis mods ,it goes into detail what is acceptable welding practices tig, mig v's stick then gives a detailed rod selection list

  2. the I'm question I'm going to ask is why, I've got a 500 and I'm going to detune it to 450 ,torque for 450 is 1545 @1250 the 500 is 1603 @1350  a small increase for more fuel and stress on the engine ,I'm sure you fellas don't pull the same weight as what we do here in oz .to answer your question the pump and injectors are the same just the fuel setting is changed  the turbo for the 500 is 631gc5110 p2 the 450 is 631gc5110 .

  3. your talking about the pocket bearing , not very often they fail ,how was the input, output main bearings ? if your drive flanges come loose and lose their preload ,the shafts will move axialy  it will cause premature wear on the bearing. another reason  the pocket  bearing fails is because oil changes in the aux haven't been done at the recommended mileage ,where the bearing sits acts like a sump it collects all the metal particles and clogs up the bearing race then the bearing runs dry then we have failure .if you change the bearing out your self you would have noticed the metal particles were packed in there really hard,  oil changes must be done regularly to flush all the shit out.  that's my 2 cents worth on this     steve

  4. do you know there is a heavy duty bearing kit ,it has fully loaded bearings instead of caged bearings ,the cages break up and allow the countershafts to try and climb over the input and output shafts ends up breaking the gear case. I paid $1200 aus dollars just for the rebuild kit, just one gear was $900

  5. kscarbel 2 just a quick update the metro 1 cabs all sit low ,the val 6 cyl also sits low just like the r model here in oz .the nz rd cab is sourced from the states it's the same as your superliner cab, nz like oz has a fair bit of say in their design of bonnets and componentry to suit local conditions

  6. no difference mate in the mounting ,just the lower panels have been cut for the set back guards all you have to do is cut the old ones off the 78 and reweld to the metro cab we do them all the time ,piece of piss mate. ks carbel2 our super liner cabs are exactly the same as our r model /value/metro just the val & metro have the lower portion cut off for the 1/4 guards

  7. I hate to rain on everyone but if you use panel bond 'YOU MUST BE METICULOUS IN YOUR PREPERATION ' any contamination will yield a substandard adhesion .did you prep the surface correctly as per the tds did you handle the part after prepping with bare hands ,oil from your skin will yield a substandard bond , you must wear new gloves everytime ,temperature will affect adhesion ,remember this part is still a structural member .there is lot more than just sticking bits together .as I said earlier on this post this my trade and I like to see things done correctly ,at the end of the day the choose is yours how you do things.  Steve

  8. nothing wrong with 610's as long as the power tower is set up right as they have a lot load on them compared to a 500,and do a full bearing roll and oilpump relief spring around 350 thousand if used on triple road train work [that comes from a fella in the isa who has been running 610's from the outset ]
