  1. I assuming it is a Mack engine maybe an E6. Check the height of the liners. We had an engine a month ago with one(1) liner down and it caused the head gasket to blow. The lifters I believe have nothing to do with blowing head gaskets. I'll check and see what the height of liners need to be and report back as soon as I find that dimension. If the liners are down Mack makes shims to bring to back to specs.

On my Eh the shifter for the 3 speed Brown-Lipe box is located on the passenger side of the main box,and is a genuine pain to shift. What is involved in moving it to the driver side where I can reach it without sliding across the seat? Are mounting brackets available,or do people just make whatever it takes to make it work?

It also has a really long throw, and has a hard time crossing from Low to Direct-it seems to hang up in neutral, like the shifter's out of adjustment. I've just been picking my range while it's stopped, since trying to shift the Brownie on the run just results in rolling to a stop fighting the shifter and having to start over again.

Also,I had to adjust the clutch when I first drove it,because it was set clear at the top of the pedal. Now I have it where it's more comfortable for me to use,but it only has abour 3-1/2 inches of travel from fully disengaged to fully engaged. There's still about 4-1/2 inches of un-used pedal travel there. Is it normal? I'm wondering if this is indicating the clutch disc is needing replacement. Still works well, though a little sudden.

I'm being told I can run this old flathead six at around 2,800-3,000 RPM's on the highway;is that so? The engine seems to be in good shape;warmed up it idles at 45 lbs oil pressure, comes up to a little over 50 at driving speed,so I don't think engine condition will have much bearing on how fast I can safely rev it.

Okay-enough questions for now-time for a little down time.

Why dont you use some apsco valves and convert to air shift. Just an idea. We have converted alot of mechanical transmission to air shift. think about it.

  3. I'm glad to see an ole Mack still running that was sold thru our dealership. If you can provide the complete model and serial number and if you know the original purchaser I can provide the complete details of the truck. I have files of every truck that was sold starting from 1960 to present. Let me know.

  4. automatic-expensive, alot of engineering from an 8 sp.. buy a reman 8 sp.from a Mack dealer. A lot better reduction on the low side, warranty, better resale. Also the overdrive is different. 8 speed= .60, allison(depends on the model) from 1.00 to approx .67(electronic vs linkage?). chassis will run slower. due your homework or you be disappointed, plus out of alot of cash.

  5. It can get confusing. Here in Oklahoma a tri axle straight truck can legally carry a total of 62K, but we also have bridge law(distance from the center of your steer axle to the center of your rear most axle), and usually a straight is not long enough to carry that weight even if the axles, tires and wheels are certified to carry that weight and usually its ass end heavy so your screwed(overloaded). I could go on and on and on and on about this. Just start reading articles about this and it will come to light. Tractors carry 80K have to be 51ft in length or longer.

Every state is a little different. It's a revenue raiser for the states.

  6. I was just wondering when the following trucks/componets are set to come out or be discontinued:

    CHU

    MRU

LEU?(not sure if the LE is changing model names or not)

    CL

    Vision

    CV/CT

    MP8 Engine

    MP10 Engine

    CHU-AVAILABLE NOW.

    MRU/LEU-AVAILABLE NOW.

    CL-DISCONTINUED.

    VISION IS REPLACED WITH CXU.

CV/CT-REPLACED WITH GU8 SET BACK AXLE, GU7 SET FORWARD AXLE.

    MP8-AVAILABLE TO ORDER NOW.

    MP10-DONT'T KNOW FOR SURE.

    HOPE THIS HELPS.
