  1. High binder, love those cornbinder snubnose cabovers ! If I could find one, might eve n consider building it instead of a"B".lots of sheet metal available, except for the "snub" itself and fenders. That's the chassis Mr wolf put the two GMC six bangers in!

  2. Out behind the bar,you put a pop case between the buckets, and fold up a moving pad, very integral! If you're from beaver falls, you know  what "pop" is! When I hauled Delco batteries,I used to deliver to a parts store in beaver falls, forget the name.when I was in the towing business, I sold a couple wrecks to the salvage yard there, owned by the Rogoff family.Brings back some memories. That's a sharp Brockway!

  3. LlOther dog,you haul containers out of the port rite?Check my post called Buy American about the new Chinese gantry crane in the port of Tampa.Love your photos! The chicks are nice,But how often do you see a Superliner "big shot" baaad motorscooter!75t you have my permission to buy  The superliner!

  4. Kscarbel 2,,I agree totally,in fact when I posted "Buy american"I was referring  to one of the many situations where you couldn't do so even if you wanted to! if you took every foreign component off any American car they'd be up on blocks! I did a survey in Home depot recently concerning tools. You cannot purchase a single American made power tool, with 2 exceptions.Very slick,Milwaukee sells a plastic tool box made here, every single one of their high dollar power tools is Chinese made. dewalt put up a very visable display of a few lower priced power tools it said MADE IN  AMERICA .This was to plant the idea in the purchaser's head that all their tools are American made. Not one of their expensive tools is made here! Even the formally high quality German and Japanese tools are made in China! Bosch and Makita. I have a full set of Milwaukee and Rockwell tools from the 70's when I was in the welding business and one Japanese made craftsman grinder, from the same era,all work like new! I needed one grinder to complete my Milwaukee set.went to a pawnshop and bought a2009 grinder for 38bucks.l am Very anal about American made!  Sorry, I get carried away on this subject!

  5. now that I've gotten an infrequent political  rant off my chest let's change the subject! big headline in the Tampa paper.New cranes may lift ports bottom line. Our p.o.s.unindicted white collar criminal gov.scott, and p.o.s. career politician,Marco Rubio  attended the unveiling of two post panamax gantry cranes at the port of tampa.these cranes will handle any container used in world shipping.Of course they were made in China.a lot of us said couldn't we have bought American cranes? sadly it doesn't appear that there is an American company that builds a crane that large! I googled the heck out of the subject,It appears that the biggest cranes made here are the type they have in factories. whoops,I forgot we don't have any more factories! Anyway it appears that Turkey is one of the few  countries( other than China,) that builds a crane that large.Nice! The article says that Tampa has so far failed to attract the biggest cargo ships from Asia, but they hope the cranes will help to drum up business! Well anyone who knows anything about business knows that you cater to those who buy your products. In this case we are catering to a polluted country that has at least one coal mine cave in a year and pays its workers subsistence wages.Oh I forgot our governor is glad  they(the cranes) will bring new jobs to the area.

  6. Everyone of you has a good point!! Tragic how truck drivers can be totally bipartisan, but p.o.s. career politicians cannot bend an inch! I have been apolitical my entire life! I've muted the tv every time anything concerning politics comes on! All I know is each election the choices are poorer than the last! none of the candidates are anyone I would have considered in my worst nightmare! A child could see thru their lives and half truths! ok I'm thru sorry. that was lies not lives, freaking spellchek.

  7. Other dog, lost my "keyboard" but those r.r based semi autos shifted by computer, the "driver" was spared  having to learn difficult tasks like double clutching, timing downshifts, or the "unthinkable" correct rpm drop to " float" the tranny to get a million miles out of a clutch!  They were similar to the semi autos used in lambos and other exotic cars. The major difference was the major goal was to assist the major carriers in hiring the least experienced (read lowest paid) "drivers" they could attract. Also I'm sure to avoid having to replace high dollar trannys at 200k! Read in Car and driver they are testing a driverless truck!lol I predicted that yrs ago! many, if not most new drivers can't even drive a stick. The new Florida drivers test no longer includes parallel parking!

  8. I agree with the broken shift fork(or bent) ,but these kinda problems normally  manifest themselves in a truck that has had a lotta hard use! If you haven't bought the truck already recheck it closely, maybe an oil analysis is in order!

  9. Freight train, I have an Izuzu pu daily driver with a5sp.od  I put 1qt Lucas engine additive and 1 qt rotella t 15w40in it.Smoothest shifting  p.u. tranny I've ever driven.Thing calls for 5w30. I  think it may be the Lucas that did it! The Lucas came with the tk,so I figured I'd use it!

    1.  Mechanic mechanic mechanic mechanic mFirst eliminator, Gm made most of America's motor coaches (greyhound trailways, etc) for the last 60yrs,they were built to run70+ mph so they could maintain their schedule.that + the fact that most bus terminals are on the level accounts for the high gears! The early ones like yours were mostly 671's the later ones 8v71's.Perhaps you could go to your local  bus maintenance facility and find an old mechanic who worked on the old buses and see if they retrofitted any 6 speeds or if he thinks it would bolt up! Old mechanics like old truckers like to b.s.! Like someone said an air shifted 4by4 might be good.I know a 20 speed air shift Spicer can be bolted to a 671 because I drove one,but that is more gears than you need on a  relatively lightweight bus!  I don't know what h.p. your 671 is but they are fairly easy to "turn up" bigger injectors etc. I'm not 100 percent sure but I think that Jimmy I drove had a turbo as well as the 671blower.It was one of the last 2 cycle Detroit's made and they were trying to improve fuel economy.Maybe if you  got a  few more "ponies"the present tranny would be tolerable. oh by the way I didn't write mechanic four times! The computer did that on it's own.
  10. A  fellow in gibsonton Florida, has a 1986 diamond reo day cab tractor for sale looks like a single axle(pictures are poor) says it has a Dietz air cooled diesel engine .bizarre looking long nose truck, kinda looks European.would be a really cool hobby truck! Googled it may have been built by osterlund in Harrisburg pa.the "real" diamond reo went bankrupt in74. Do any of you guys know about this engine? Parts availability etc? I know they have built industrial engines for yrs, welders, compressors, etc. Thanks!

  11. Wondered when someone would respond to my smart ass comment about the blue coral! Don't even know if it is still sold,so some of our younger truck fans may not be familiar with it. My favorite cleaner/wax is Mothers California gold, discovered it quite by accident. Was delivering a load of new Mercedes to a dealer in ct.pulled over in a service plaza to check my tiedowns.a chain from my top rear unit came loose and dropped onto the bottom units trunk! Left a rusty swirl on it.Mercedes dealers check their incoming units closely! Saw a parts store down a ramp, and went looking for rubbing compound. They were out of compound ,but had mothers.worked great! Was in 87,still have the can,but it's almost  m t. The car haulers  "survival kit" includes rubbing compound, the deluxe box of crayola crayons, and a spray bottle of water.the crayons are self explanatory, but if you have a unit with paint damage you can't rub out,you spray water on it and grab a handful of powdery dirt off the pavement and throw it lightly on the damage! Works, unless they wash the cars at check in.
