  1. 4v with dynatard The plan is for it to be a parade truck/ when the boss has to go out to the job sites. So we will be taking it down and doing it right. I think it's going to stay a day cab but we are going to stretch it to a 240" wheel base.
  2. The guy it came from had it sitting in the back for 7 years. My boss told me he wanted to build a flagship for the company (all freightliners). Something that will turn heads. I told him nothing that has a freight liner badge will do the trick. . He laughed and said what are you thinking? I told him there is almost nothing that looks as good as a superliner but that they are hard to come by. And we should find a needle nose Pete or kenworth. He started looking and found this truck a few days later I went down to get it. As far as the glider I have no idea.. I think the badge is generic cause if I'm not mistaken it's a rw613
  3. Yup it's in the cut off Hmm I'll check it out its worth a shot, thank you For the info.
  4. Some more pics it has over 1million miles and it's a bit on the tired side but we will be taking in this winter and giving it some new life.
  5. Well I have been asking some ?'s about things about these trucks, so I figured I'd show some pics. We are in the tear down process now.
  6. That would be fun, I work seasonal if you want to work out a deal. Could be like a little vacation.
  7. It looks good you don't notice the paint layer just looking at it. You have to run your hand on it.
  8. The stripes were a after thought. The truck is a single stage urethane. then I taped off the area sanded it and painted the stripes one by one taping off each one and cleared just over the stripes. If I would have known I would have base coated the truck. Painted the stripes then cleared the whole thing. That way you don't have a ridge.
  9. I agree it's crazy how it's getting I hate the prep but the paint makes the prep worth it. I also enjoy laying paint down.
  10. I thank you sir. My dad held a high standard when I was in the shop doing anything. And it stuck with me over the years. I look at my paint and still see all the flaws. And things I could have done differently. I laugh cause my dad stopped by and he still holds me to the standard and will point out the stuff. I guess it's a tough love.
  11. Thank you, I am no painter. I usually paint a couple things a year and when I go in the paint supply store I am shocked by all the new products. It's def a info overload. My hats off to the guys that do it everyday and are able to keep up with all the new tech. Being a mechanic the basics never change. As a body guy they change weekly.
  12. I am a mechanic by trade but I grew up a body mans son. My boss loves that I am willing to do basically whatever. Hear are some jobs he "made" me do.I changed the color from white to charcoal and painted the stripes.this one I changed from red to black nothing fancy but I thought they turned out pretty good.
  13. The frame looks great! I can't wait to see final product. I actually really like the fact you didn't hide all the wear. Sorry to hijack, They make a por primer but it's more of a metal prep than a actual primer. In my oppinon the stuff isn't worth the label it's printed on.. I put it on my truck frame of my pickup with all the por prep products"$$$" thinking if it works half as good as they say the frame it'll look great for a long time. It spent one one winter in nd oil fields very very little salt. And it's rusting right thru it.im pretty disappointed. I think the best way to do it would like ranchhopper did and seal over it with something else.
  14. No they aren't but I can def. do that... Not sure why I didn't think of that. Thank you guys for the help.
  15. Yup i did that but I can't make out any of the numbers.
  16. So the rear drive on the super liner is broken and we bought a frame cutoff with the suspension and and a empty front drive and the rear is good and in it. The guy we got the cutoff from said the ratio was 4:42. That's what we need. But the housing is rusty and I cleaned it up but I can't make out any numbers on the tag. Is there any other way to tell? If I pull it out are the gears marked? I want to take the guys word for it but we all know what happens if I did that...
  17. Thank you for the replies and info. The c12 has a10 speed sorry I forgot to say that. The Mack is a 300 4v
  18. I'm told this is a good combo and it will pull better than the c12 430hp engines in our freightshakers. So I guess what I'm asking is, We shouldn't need to "turn it up" to compare the two right? The boss is worried that the 300 won't do the job as well. I said we can always give it a bump. After we see how it does.
  19. For the miles the truck will see, ride prob isn't a big deal. The truck is in the works to be a parade/back up hauler only for when he goes out. I would just hate to have problems with the taper leaf.
  20. Maybe we will just swap it over to the trusty camelbacks and not worry about the taperleaf. With a air ride cab the ride shouldn't be too bad?
  21. It's a play truck more or less but we have a good trunion so we may as well replace it.
  22. Thank you good sir's. So it might be best to leave it there on a truck that is more play than work. The trunion is cracked and the boss got a cut off with a hd one and 44k camelbacks. We were going to just swap the whole set up onto this truck but if the taperleaf is a better ride then we might just swap the trunion and reuse the taperleaf.
  23. What kind of spring setup is this? As always thanks for the info /wisdom. Sorry for all the ?'s . I'm just a noob trying to learn all I can.
