  1. I have a 04 Granite, AI300, allison 4500 with 4.64 gears, 17 yard dump. Working in the plants they will load her to 60-65k with 610 limestone, and other than the “AI lag” that we may have cured this weekend, the 300 handles it fine, even up the ramps. When tagging my excavator im at 82k, and the 300 could use a little more muscle, but gets it done. We changed turbo and injectors this weekend, we will see next week how she does.

  2. I ordered a used jake brake setup to replace my current (parts missing since I purchased the truck) brake from Manders. Was buttoning everything up from manifold/exhaust/injectors change to cripple egr, and noticed that one of the internal oil lines in the jake was broken, looks like from shipping (broke at the check valve). We put a plug in the oil port and started it, but were scared to run it long like this not knowing if something was starving for oil, or does it only work the jake. I figure with MLK day tomorrow chances of getting one is low. Does anyone know for certain if it would or wouldn’t hurt anything to run it like this? I really want to see how it does!

    Thanks

  3. Singlestack! Did you ever figure out the intermittent low power issue? Im having the same issues, may pull good , then reduction of boost(almost like derating), then comes back. Sometimes i can lift off throttle, and get back on it and power resumes, or may have to do it multiple times, or just ride it out. (225)266-6350 talk/text

  4. Ok, so ive been saving my nickles to do the 5 inch exhaust(my local truck pro can get them, has already quoted), exhaust manifold, K&S injectors and 400 turbo, but i just read something that concerns me, if my local dealer has the "Grey Motor Amnesia", does that mean that installing the parts wont help? Or just that it would run better if it had the dealer tune it after?

Just curious, if there was a way to convince the engine brain that the engine had boost, say 10 lbs or some low number like that, by fooling the boost sensor/manifold pressure sensor electronically, would that allow more fueling earlier? Maybe allow the actual boost to build quicker, minimizing the low end lag? Maybe a resistor or something in the circuit? Im not interested in rolling coal, just thinking aloud

  5. Hey we both have the same issue, sometimes my 04/300/Allison does the exact same thing! Sometimes from a dead stop, almost instant boost, good power...sometimes normal power, then sometimes won’t build good boost through first/second maybe into third before you hear the motor pitch deepen(more fuel)followed by rise in boost and normal power.

  6. I had to go to three different dealers before i finally found one who would update my 04 AI from 9B to 12B, and it took that shop almost half a day to actually get it to work, they had to flash it (called it that i believe) several times before it "took". Sounds like we are chasing the same intermittent low power issue

  7. Ill have to second what "HatCity" said, my local dealer couldnt/wouldnt take mine from 9b to 12b, but a dealer 80 miles away did it. They had to fool with it quite a bit, took three attempts to get it to take, but they got it. Didnt correct my main issue of intermittent low power, but it did reduce its severity and frequency i believe. But it did introduce a 10 minute idle shutdown i didnt have before, need to see if the local dealer can kill that off

  8. I think I'm going to try the 375, but I believe I'm going to want more in the end. If it was a truck that the drivers use, I would be reluctant, but it's only me, the repair bill check writer (and my personal truck) so I believe it wouldn't be abused. My local Allison shop head tech is a personal friend from high school, he feels confident, on this model Allison, to around 1700 foot lbs owner driven

  9. On the passenger side, standing on the ground, there is a rubber sleeve that couples the A/C blower discharge duct to the inlet side of the evaporator, a Phillips screwdriver and a few minutes time removing the inlet duct(slide the rubber to the right or left to allow the removal of the duct, can't remember which way) and your staring at the inlet side of the evaporator, which I'll bet a donut on, is nearly 100% plugged. Clean it with a vacuum or wash it in place. One of my old drivers likes riding with the window down, A/C on, dusty air through a cold evap coil, damp from the S.Louisiana air makes a muddy mess! I have to clean his every few months, complaint from him? A/C not hardly blowing
