  1. Ok, so basically 300/315 safe. Is a 78 a E-6?
  2. Ok, need to live with 300 if i get it- thats what i needed to know....thanks!!
  3. Im curious, how much power could a 78 era maxidyne motor make in a low hours/non work application? Engine in good shape, truck is basically a toy, maybe 1000 miles a year. 400 hp? What is its limiting factors?
  4. Btw, the mechanic corrected me on the truck he had said was 3500, that was on a Mack tanker that rats got a hold of, that was under hood, in cab, and the pump panel, all new harnesses
  5. A local dump trucker with a beautifl, super clean 07 Granite was going to work with me tomorrow hauling, but just told me he cant because his yellow "emission light" on the dash is lit up, and he said she doesnt pull worth a darn when its on. He says normally when it comes on, he shuts it down for a while and restarts it and all is well as long as the light it out. I questioned him about it, he says its not a MP motor, what light is he referring to? Is an 07 grey motor different than a 04?
  6. Other than kinda sluggish initial throttle response due to the vocational emissions EGR on the CV series granites, pretty darn reliable truck i feel.
  7. Let me try it, i run local, ill rent it and see how it does!
  8. I’ve been contemplating trying one on my granite, what size turbo is yours based off of? I have a S467 on mine and it takes 2 gears from a stop to get it spooled up, 3rd gets me high teens, 4th gets me mid 30s. I really want to try one, but kinda leery now, your the only one that ive heard of with one on a Mack (225)266-6350 talk/text if you get time one day
  9. 880Joe, did you ever get the switchblade on and working? Im curious about one 2252666350
  10. No im pretty sure he was talking cost of harness, i think they had 5 hrs in harness changeout and some other miscellaneous items that time
  11. It may well have been around there, i just remember my mechanic saying he had changed one previously that was like $3500 ish, so i was mentally preparing for that, and it was well less than half, so i was happy!
  12. Sorry, been busy, ill go back and see, but i think it was around the low 1k area, but ill check
  13. Well looks like we figured it out, engine harness! Changed the main on engine harness, not only cured the intermittent lag/low power, but also what everyone thought was a weak cylinder when cold, missed erratically until warmed up(we were prepping for a inframe OR a Etech swap, harness cured it. Im liking her a lot more!
  14. I am assuming this is a push button shift Allison, if so, when engine is running the shifter should display either a 5 or a 6, indicating how many gears it has available. The 5 speed and 6 speed are the same trans in the 4000 series line, to the best of my knowledge(mine was), with the 6 speed a higher cost option (I was told that in 04 it was a $2000 ish option for about 9 more mph available with 464 rears, OR 150 less rpm at 55)
  15. Is your Allison a 3000 or 4000 5 speed by chance? I found a small company who can unlock 6th gear if locked out, and modify shift points to suit needs. Btw if it’s a 4000 series, they are stouter than some give credit for, we transport our excavator @ 82k regularly with 400hp, wish it had more umph, but does good.
  16. What model truck are you referring to? In a 04 Granite, the engine was no longer a Etech, but now a “AI” or “AMI”
  17. Are you familiar with the different water pump im referring to? A different pump available on the 275 and 300s as a economy option?
  18. Yea the company that originally bought her had her bare bones, no ac, no lateral stabilizer, no passenger seat etc
  19. Ok ill check that this weekend, and no it doesn’t have the filter/conditioner
  20. 2004 granite 300 AI/Allison combo having overheating a issue. When tagging the excavator (82k gross), water temp climbs to the edge of the red when accelerating from a dead stop to 45, but starts falling fairly soon once throttle backs down (maintaining 40-45). At lower weights, never gets close to red. Radiator rodded out a year or so ago, 50/50 antifreeze changeout yearly, fan clutch appears to be pulling good, Allison verified no trans issues(trans temp stays mid range)...what else should i be looking at? Possibly the cooling package is marginal(seems like i read something on BMT about the 300 hp motors having a “economy” cooling system available for non A/C trucks with a smaller water pump???) This truck was a non-A/C mixer truck up north originally, maybe a marginal radiator with A/C and our ambient temps? any ideas?
  21. Agree that a half gear would have been nice, but the 4500RDS has some pretty big steps between 3rd and 4th and 5th, so we had it tweaked to hold each gear another 200 rpms at mid to 3/4 throttle ranges before shifting, holds boost good, egts stay below 1000
  22. Thanks, yes she is doing much better after raising the 3-4 and 4-5 shift points about 200 rpms.
