  1. Ok cool I didn't realize they were stickers in these trucks. I know someone who can make decals, I'm sure I could find a good example online for him to copy from. Looks like quite the job on that floor! Luckily mine didn't get to that point, I only have a couple small spots I can cut out and replace. Soon as I'm done with the cab corner and rocker.
  2. Well as things typically go, I wasn't able to get much done to the truck this summer due to more important things going on at the time. But I've finally started working on it again, even though it is only about once a week. I figured I would try to tackle all of the rust and rot first then try to finish off the interior. I discovered a bit more rot once I cut the bad cab corner off, so I'm cutting and replacing all of the bad stuff with new steel. In the mean time I have been trying to get everything I will need for the interior ready to go. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures showing where the shift pattern plate goes in the cab? I've been trying to find the correct duplex plate but so far all I have found is quad box plates. Also, does anyone know whether or not my truck is supposed to have the plate telling proper engine operating range like the b models had? I'm just trying to bring it back to as close to original as I can.
  3. Well these are all definitely good points. Especially the BBQ and beer! But yes I completely agree that I'm sure there is going to be a cost of having it scrapped. I will ask around a little tomorrow when I get to work, what kind of chance I would have of getting it. Transporting it shouldn't be a problem, just whether or not they will get rid of it. It would really be a fun project, I think my biggest concern though would be the cost of tires.
  4. They might sell it I'm not sure. I'd assume they wouldn't want any less than what they could get in scrap price, which I'm guessing would be a good chunk of change
  5. If I could do that I would absolutely love it! After I finish my r model of coarse, but I think that would be a fun project. Unfortunately I think the chances of that happening would be near impossible. It's a shame too because I'm sure it's got potential in there. I'll have to try to grab some pictures of it Monday.
  6. If I can get it I'm not sure what I want to do with it. Not really looking to sell it, I wouldn't mind building a rat rod with it though
  7. We have a 35 ton mack rock truck here at work, long retired though. Parked out behind the garage. They're planning on torching it, I'd like to atleast get the 12v71 out of it. They had a big 50 ton truck years ago too. Had a 16v92 in it. That one was torched too
  8. Hi, does anyone know if the heater cores in the old R models are the same as the later R models? It looks like mine could be replaced, I didnt know if they were interchangable between trucks?
  9. Ok cool I will give that a try and see what I can come up with that you
  10. Ok i will continue to look, I've found a couple here and there but they are what I already have. Just out of curiosity, would anyone have a picture of an original early r model gauge cluster? I've seen a couple other old gauges but I am unsure if they are the correct ones, and i haven't found much from searching yet. Thanks again for all the info!
  11. A good friend of mine works here at Johns Garage. I saw the picture and recognized the truck
  12. Man I wish I had a shop that size to work in! Someday soon hopefully. I would like to find a b model to restore someday as well, but this r really caught my interest, plus the price was right so it's a good truck to start with I think. And I would definitely be interested in a steering wheel if you have one
  13. Ouch that's a lot of money just for gauges, I like the look of the white faces but I can't see spending that much right now! There is a superliner on YouTube with them and it looks really good, I believe it's the Australia Heavy Haulage truck that is in a few videos.
  14. Great thanks for the info! Who is Barry that you say has the original style gauges? And as for the paint thank you, I didn't realize there was that much of a difference. I will look into it to make sure on the paint code.
  15. Thank you for the input, I just contacted bobsspeedometer looking for some info. Also I believe my voltmeter had two leads, but I will have to check again I could be mistaken. And I will check into the fuel gauge as well, thank you
  16. Well Ive finally begun the restoration on my 66 R600. Im hoping to have it done by the beginning of summer, and I have a lot of work ahead of me so I figured I should start somewhere. I started on the interior today, gutting the dash so that i can rewire the truck and clean the mess the mice have made in there over the years. Since I plan to rewire everything, I think I am going to switch over to a neg ground system just for simplicity of adding anything later. From what I understand, to convert to neg ground, I have to -switch battery leads to starter -reverse the amp meter leads -reverse temp gauge leads -reverse the connections at the heater motor -install an alternator with a rectifier for Neg ground, unless it is a floating ground alt. Am I forgetting anything? Also, the truck has some original gauges, but some have been replaced with aftermarkets. I would like to have all matching gauges, so I was wondering If anyone knew of any places that may do gauge restoration at a resonable cost? I could find the missing original gauges and send them all out to be restored, or does anyone know of an aftermarket gauge manufacturer that sells gauges that would work in these trucks (air psi, 3k tach, etc). I have seen some "old school" looking gauges that look really sharp but they dont make the appropriate gauges that I need like previously metioned. And one other question, I am going to repaint the interior the original mack green, I was wondering if the R models used the same green color as the B models? Ive heard the newer the truck, the less metallic the paint will have, due to being what was left from the batches of paint the factory had, is that correct? Thanks in advance for any input -Justin
  17. Thanks guys, I've loved these trucks since I was crawling around on the rug, I'm just happy I can finally have one of my own! I'm going to start a thread showing the restoration, hopefully I can start it in the next couple weeks. Should be a fun build I've got a lot in mind for it
  18. Here is another pic of it now that it's home. The previous owner also gave me a complete service/repair book for the truck, the original owners manual, and all of the paper work from the truck since it was built including build sheets w/part numbers, sales receipt from the original purchaser, etc. I thought that was a nice touch.
  19. Thank you, and actually I'm planning on building a small flatbed dump with stake pockets and removable sides. I think the flatbed will look good on it once it's done and it will still be usable with sides on it. Hopefully I can start the rest of the restoration within the next few weeks, I'm working on finding sources for parts first.
  20. Thanks I'm very happy, now to begin the restoration progress!
  21. Well I just thought I would make an update and say that the truck is officially mine today I just brought it home. Very excited to get going on it, took it for a little drive at home down the road and back and it drives great!
  22. I was reading through this thread and thought I would post up some pics of a small part of my collection. I've always liked toy trucks and machines
