  1. Paul you most welcome to visit, all of you welcomes. Israel is great place, history, holly places, nice looking girls, great atmosphere. The DM865SX was so successful that when retired lots of them sold as truck trailer to Iraq and Georgia (the one near russia not in US) while other converted to tippers and went to work in Africa. (from the internet) The only draw back was sometimes unaware drivers that over run the V8 engine. i.e. push to high RPM with no reason thus made damage, but you cannot find any other truck / vehicle/ airplane that serves so many years and cost so little to run.
  2. Dear All friends, surprises keep coming from Israel. This one is 1973 DM with cummins NTA370 and fuller RTO915, specially ordered to heavy haulage by TAAVURA ltd. The leader in Extra Heavy loads. What will be the exact model? is it DM867SX? Load is tank carrier weighs 160 ton GCVW - 230 ton (!) probably the heaviest load of single truck ever transported in Israel. 9 meters high force clear wires along the way This operation took place in mid 1973, 350 KM long trip from Eilat to Ashdod. In serious uphills a CAT988 front loader came to help. i met the DM driver recently, now owner of tire workshop near Ben Gurion airport, he recalls RPM drops from 1,800 even when the 988 pulls, this was "funny" situation. This DM was very fast as original as all other DM, but to taker this gigantic weight the rear axles replaced to lower ration axles that been took from Autocar, might be Rockwell. After that, the DM become VERY slow.. the origin driver left the truck in a junction and went away, refuse to drive such slow truck. However, this transport set the pace for many other success operations made by Taavura group http://www.taavura.com/508.html
  3. This "suspension" had rubber mounts ,nevertheless bounced all over the place like crazy, even for experienced DM drivers that had their jumping history in the cabin... Later, some workshop here replaced the rigid bridge with leafs. I assume it was over designed and a bit wired with rigid suspension at one hand and weak 673 engine. in the other hand. 673 engine never made it's way to Israel on DM in normal conditions.
  4. Dear friends, have a look at the pics (imaged from internet) Last week in Israel, history is now on the roads. IDF (Israel Army) still run the beasts. DM865SX, 1975-1977 models. V8 ENDT865, 325 HP 5/2 Gearbox. Excellent work horse.
  5. Hi All, This time - rare beast: DM811 673 engine, 5/4 Gearbox and surprise- NO rear springs at all (!!) just a metal bridge. belong to Mifaley tovala. The Driver here is today the chairman of "Mifaley Tovala" trucking company Union, he said this Mack jumped and kicked like hell, while normal DM had a very rough set up - no air springs, just hard metal spring leafs.. so the 811 kicked all over the place. this truck was part of 10 units came in 1973 as emergency import after Yom Kippur war. the guys juts went like crazy and bought every truck they found, so this DM configuration is 'off the shelve' american standard, i.e. headlights up in the hood, no leaf spring in the tandem axles, small engine such as the 673 while the standard here was NTC335 from 1966. The 811 never pulled road train .
  6. EFRAIM ILIN Factory in Nesher, Haifa had assembled 10 pieces of B31P in 1955 ~ those trucks had German Henschell 6 cyl Engine. Engine was probably part of the German-Israel post Holocaust settlements
  7. Hi All, Mifaley Tovala was located in Beer Sheba, names means "transportation industries" now they operate DAF with Paccar engines. GCVW is roughly the same the DM had- about 100 tons. Frame number of this DM is 1008 ,i don't have the full VIN This is a DM863SX, so thanks BMT for your correction This DM is imported, later models were assembled in Ashdod, i think from 1973. this was not Efrain ILIN factory but belong to his competitor SHUBINSKY than in 1973 sold to ELKON family, distributor of Mack since the '50. Mifaley Tovala had 64 (!) units of DM863SX, about 2 of them had engine replaced to CAT1693, stronger then the NTC335 and had breaksaver- internal retarder. However the CAT was set to 320 HP and 375HP output.
  8. Here is the 8Th DM800 that was produced, 1966 model. it's a DM867SX, with RTO15 gerabox, i.e .5 gears, hi lo and extra 5 in deep reduction engine is Cummins NTC335. This truck owned and operated by MIFALEY TOVALA in Israel caring Potash from dead sea in the 200 KM route threw desert rocking hi temperatures, in road train combination. The first trailer takes 35 tons, 2nd takes 25 ton, GCVW is 90 tons. until mid '70 there was no air condition, great experience for the driver. nevertheless drivers took their families sometimes 4 at the cabin (!) to long trips to Eilat and sharem el sheich in Sinai, Actually, this is the 4th DM800 in 'Mifaley Tovala', their 1st DM800 was the 4th in the world. Engineer Avraham Halivni (D.) had big inputs on the DM800 design. DM800 opened new era in Mifaley Tovala, about 190 unit of DM800 worked in Mifaley Tovala well into the '80. DM actually build Israel from 1966 till today, some 1975 are working as tippers.
  9. Paul, Townsville is a great place, nearly heaven, relaxed and modern. i've been there too, anyway Australia is excellent for travel and trucking
  10. Chevy 41, yes, the headlights went to the bumper due to local regulations, we use europian rules of a symmetric lights and the whole set needs to be replaced
  11. Paul, i see you located in Townsville, what a great place! i been there, nearly heaven of modern life along with some '60 spirit. great place to be and gateway to great barrier reef too.
  12. Chevy 41. The Israeli regulations demands lower headlights, AND European A-Symmetric headlights, means the original headlight set must be replaced anyway.
  13. Chevy 41 Hope you enjoyed the visit, there is a lot to see. US origin headlamps were: 1) Too high so they re located to the bumper. 2 )Israel use European standard for A-simetric headlights, means the left headlight beam is pointed a bit to the left to prevent glare of the driving coming towards you. some american manufacturers don't use this system so the whole headlight components had to be replaced,
  14. Paul, Townsville was the northen point i made in Australia, really cool place sort of heaven and modern life + some '60 atmosphere.
  15. Paul, where are you located, iv'e crossed big areas in QLD, NSW even been diesel mechanic, Australia is a great place. I Know the guy from Israel in the Australian forum, he is great expert and one of the best we know in Israel for all types of historic trucks and machines. We share with Australia the need to improvise when it come to heavy loads just because we far away from "mother" America.
  16. Just a few words from the local guy.. Israel is a safe place last year saw record of of 3.5 Million tourists, remember Israel is away from beaten track, no borders with Europe or USA, airfares cost money and also people needs Visa. Uzi guns are out of service for many years here, police have pistols such as everywhere else in the world ,you might see soldiers or border patrol, all here to keep it quiet. Israel was fed by british trucks after WW2. many Mack and Ford canada were just the entrance point, we do have heritage of transportation here include road trains of gross 90 ton since 1959. there is a lot to do here in preservation, we negotiate about keeping the only Mack LMSW we got here, their is a lot of good people who helps, some funds will be helpfully too
  17. Paul, Israel is interesting place, back in the '50 the Dead sea works used to pull a 100 ton 2 trailers road train with Autocar DC100 using 200 HP cummins. and many other stories here.. BR -Guy
  18. Vlad, only thing i can assume, the NM was ex British army truck, the last Brits left Israel at 15 may 1948 and a lot of their equipment changed hands, such as Many Mack NR with 131 HP Lanova engines. the biggest diesels we had back than... Germany signed remedy agreement with Israel in 1952 because of the Holocaust. Many trucks and Industrial equipment made the way to Israel, such as Mack B31P with a German Henschell 100 HP engine . never heared about tanks and airplanes. well some chechoslovakia Avia airplane, replica of German M109 Me aircraft came to Israel, but it was in 1948 era. before the remedy agreement had been signed. BR -Guy
  19. Mack NM is Israel. The year - about 1949.
  20. And this one stands at Taavura Museum. any data you got on these trucks? i.e. years of production, engine types. etc Thanks -Guy
  21. Hi All, Mack EH with.... Volvo diesel engine in Israel back in those days everything goes, the petrol trucks were too much thirsty, and many diesels engines had been retrofitted includes Dewtz, Volvo, Perking R6/ P6. leyland 0.600, Cummins JBS600.
  22. trucks in Israel works hard than anywhere else, no air bags only leaf springs, truck jumped like drunken horse even in neutral, long duties for trucks that never built for this for example - Mack DM a R series were all arounders, taking containers, dump trailers and military tanks. sun in on during all year paint is dull due to this reason. This LMSW came to Israel in 1943 servers many years and changes ownership. cab is Scania Vabis, instrument panel had been modified so as rear bogies that had single tire- now double tires. yes, it needs good preservation..
  23. Yes!! The LMSW-23 is there at Arad, Israel been spotted yesterday 27/1/2015 with some pictures attached. only 193 built! rare beast. We don't know what the owners i.e. Egged bus service, is planing, they might sell / get rid of the whole lot with some old buses too. This one got Leyland 0.680 engine, about 200 HP was very popular in Egged, Israel at the '60-'70. Winch is of too, the cab looks not that origin BUT this Mack needs preservation!
