  1. There are no trick questions here, Glenn!! Here is another though regarding the same Eaton axles. I don't have the model axles they are and I'm going off a 95 CH lube and maintenance manual instead of a 98....that manual says the Eaton rear drive axles take 48 pints of gear oil. Is that per axle housing or as a pair??? 48 pints sounds like alot to me for 1 axle. thanks gang. you too Glenn. Rob W.
  2. My 98 CH has Eaton rear axles. There are 3 plugs on the rear pumpkin. The top is obviously the fill. There is one not to far below the fill plug and one at the bottom of the housing. Which one do i use to drain the rear end?? Thanks in advance. Rob W.
  3. This sound right to you guys (for a 98 CH w 427/10-sp fuller, and eaton rear axles)? 15W-40 for engine, Synthetic 50W for trans and 75w-90 Synthetic for rear axles. I have nothing to go off of except an older (pre 90) lube book. Thanks in advance. Rob W
  4. I'm going to be a 1 truck operation....you guys recommend a particular billing/invoicing/acoounts receivable/payable software????? thanks in advance Rob w.
  5. When you guys rotate tires on a drive tandem do you keep the pairs of wheels together or do you seperate them and move them all around??? Rob W.
  6. Can you guys tell me about the air ride hook up on a dump trailer? I've pulled a spring suspensioned dump for 12 years and might buy an air ride trailer. Do i need another air line to the trailer and a cab switch to dump the air??? thanx in advance. Rob W.
  7. I bought a CH with unimount disc wheels on the back. Some are 2 hole, some are 4 hole, and 1 is a 5 hole. I see alot of trucks on the road with the same combo of rims. why is that? Is there a big difference? Anyone in the Chicago area that would like to do an even trade......I'd rather have the 5 hole instead of the 2 or 4. Call me silly!!! Rob W.
  8. I dont know. I'll have to check it tomorrow.
  9. I need to replace the whole valve/knob assembly right???
  10. Does it matter which way the oil flows through the cooler? I know the trans is labeled...oil out (I think). Do the lines purges themselves after everything is hooked back up and running???
  11. The last owner said the last set of cooler lines were rubbing against the spring shackles and started to leak. I have a 427 ...but i was going to replace them anyway. thanks for the info
  12. Anyone use the Fumoto valve on their oil pan??
  13. You guys have been great. I've learned a load of stuff from you guys. So one more question......I've been driving a 95 CH613 w/fuller 10 speed......it has no trans cooler. I've bought a 98 CH with a fuller 10 speed...the trans cooler lines have been disconnected (cut). I want to replace them. My question is this...how important are the cooler lines??? Again thanks for your help. Rob W.
  14. Do you guys prefer a certain brand and or grade of grease?????
  15. One thing I forgot to mention and I don't know if it matters...i have a slight oil leak on right side of engine by the # 1 and 2 cylinders. It looks like it's coming from right above the exhaust manifold. Rob W.
  16. It's a 98 CH w/427....583, 000 miles ( new cam). I've only bob-tailed with it so I don't know how effective it is under load. When it did come on it seemed to be slow to activate (very gradual) The only thing I have to compare it to is this.....I'm a fireman by trade and drive a ladder truck ( a 2004) with a 515 hp Detroit w/ jakes and an automatic trans. When that thing activates it's like dropping an anchor. I don't know if i should expect the same from an older rig with a manual gear box. Thats really all the info I have. Once again thanks for your help. Rob W.
  17. Does anyone know how to diagnose jake brake porblems?? Mine works occasionally. The guy i bought the truck from was under the impression that the spring switch near the clutch was the problem. I unhooked the 2 wires and used a jumper but that didn't help. I really dont want to go to the Mack dealer. Any ideas??? Thanks Rob
  18. Hey guys, My parkiing brake knob doesn't pop out until the pressure is down to 0 psi. Is the valve behind the knob bad??? Also, I've been driving a 95 CH613 for about 10 years...it has a big ass air dryer on it. I just bought a 98 CH and it needs a new air dryer....but the one on it now is tiny compared to the 95. Why the difference? Thanks in advance. Rob
  19. Hey guys, This was probably covered before but I'm new to this site, and a new owner of a 98 CH. I have 2 questions actually..and i know it depends on the application. How often are you guys doing PM???? My rig will be doing dump work ( about 15,000 miles/year) and maybe an occasional lowboy out of state run. The company I drive for now the mechanic tells me every 10,000 he does PM. But i dont think he changes everything...just filters and engine oil. My 2nd question is this ......do you follow the maintainence manual to the letter?? I 've never heard of changing power steering oil once or twice a year. How often are you guys changing trans and rear axle oils???? thanks in advance. Rob W.
  20. No, everything is charging up nice and strong.
