  1. I am almost finished rebuilding a TRF321 transmission. I have found two (2) screws (see picture below) that were extremely (hand) loose. Can anyone tell me if these are loose for a reason or just loosened over-time? Thanks in advance
  2. thanks! many folks have sent me to Paint Ref, and 70174 IS my color.... unfortunately the 70174 number is no good acording to my supplier.. by chance can you share your suppliers name?
  3. They did but its too faded to get a good match...
  4. Well folks I am lost... I cannot get a good match to my 50 L model #400 medium red paint. Paint ref had it but it is the lacquer number and there is no cross according to ppg.. I tried contacting Matt Phfal but he doesn't give advice... Does anyone know any restorers out there who can help??
  5. Looking for a gasket set or Rebuild kit for a Gemmer SG-25. Anyone have a source for this stuff? Thanks in advance.
  6. I am repainting some parts... I hope to have enough $$ in the next few years to send to Matt Pfahl for a complete repaint.....
  7. Thank You all... problem is that PPG says that 70174 is not a good number.... any other thoughts??
  8. Can anyone hemp me contact Mack Mhe9? Messages are not working for me and I am looking for info on one of his rigs. Thanks in advance!
  9. I am sure this has been asked before but a search proved no results... I am looking for a match to "Mack Medium Red #400". I recently purchased what was explained to be correct from a reputable online restoration paint company, and it seemed pinkish... Any suggestions as to where I can get a match or at least something close???

  12. Thanks all, I tried to pull one of the pistons today and the cap bolts (hex) seem stuck... Are they usually that tight??
  13. Thanks everyone for the feedback.. I am thinking that i will go the forklift route and pull the trans and motor as a whole... i am still holding out some hope that I can pull the pistons and free up the two stuck ones without removing the motor. I removed the pan tonight and found that the underside of the motor is is great shape.... next... i'll try the pistons....
  14. Thanks ya'll for the feedback... and of course you were right... I just pulled the PAN, and sure enough NO water.... the underside of the motor is immaculate... clearly #3 & #5 are stuck... plan for now is to remove the cylinders that are free, try to free the two bad ones, replace the rings and then put it all back together.... my hope as of now is to still avoid pulling the motor...
  15. So reality has struck and i cannot free pistons #3 & #5 in my 707 motor.. I have decided to remove the motor for a complete overhaul.. Some folks in another forum said that the machine shop can boil the block to remove the stuck pistons... I guess we will see... Any suggestions on how best to remove the motor.? I am guessing that the trans and motor will come out together??
  16. Alrighty then... listened to all of you and pulled the heads... looks like pistons #3 and #5 have crap in them... i am hoping to not have to pull the motor... but the heads look fine... i cannot figure out how water/coolant got into them... head gasket looks fine as well... some pics are below.. any thoughts are appreciated...
  17. I am pulling the exhaust manifold off of my 707A engine and one of the studs came out when removing the nut. when the stud came out I noticed a moderate amount of Coolant come out of the stud hole. Is that normal, or do I have a bigger problem...

  19. Thanks everyone.. That's makes sense... I am not planning on a complete removal... I have a stuck #5 Cylinder and have to remove the head for that... My plan is to remove the heads, check for/fix issues.. do what i have to to get her running, and re-do the brake system. After that (and after saving lots of money) the overall plan is to send to someone like Matt Pfal to completely re-paint/re-chrome the system. Anyone have any idea how to remove the exhaust manifold? The exhaust pipe is one piece and I cannot get to the bolts to remove with the cowl... Looks like it will have to come off in one piece... Thanks All
  20. So at the recommendation of all of you i have begun to tear down the motor of my 50 Mack. I am confused as I have noticed an "add on" to the air intake... can any of you identify what this is? Thanks in advance..
  21. Hello all.. just an update... I took your advice and bought an inspection camera... I can confirm that it a only one cylinder that is hosed up... Seems like a lot of craps/rust around the top of it... So with that info , is a tear down in my future or is there another option??
  22. Thanks for the feedback... Truth is I have done none of the things suggested. I will pull the rocker covers this weekend and take a look... I have looked in all of the plug holes and all seems good except #5 which DID have water in it... but why only one??? I am perplexed.... The truck is amazingly in great shape with NO exterior rust... I'm thinking I found all of the rust in the Motor.....
  23. Full disclosure.. I also posted in "engine's".... Wellll it seems that my 707A engine is stuck... I think (probably dangerous) it's only one cylinder... However given the fact that I soaked them all in MMO for some time now... Took off the bumper and tried to turn the motor with a socket on the crank bolt, and she won't budge.... I think it's time... So now I suppose ill take off the heads and try to fix this mess... Any suggestions from you vets about this process... Do's ?? Dont's ?? Any last ditch ideas to prevent the tear down??
