  1. looking at another western R. this truck is the twin to my 79 except for the 9 speed trans and it is not a tip turbine. the only thing im not sure about is the way the engine runs. it seems like it has no power till it hits 1600rpm. both my current trucks pull hard from an idle. looking for any ideas. this truck is an 85 and is as clean as any new truck I've looked at. it has 240000 original miles.

  2. all truck tires that I know of have the weight rating stamp on them for 55 to 65 mph. the weight rating increases as speed decreases. used to ha e the chart for Bridgestone. don't know what I did with it. never dreamed I would need it. air pressure also changes weight rating. if you have an underinflated 425 dot can give you a ticket for being overweight on that tire. If you are in the quarry with you tags raised, you will most likely be over on you front axle before the weight rating on you tires at 25mph.

  3. I have a chance to get a 10 speed for my rs686lst. it will grt me an overdrive for the interstate runs and allow me to keep my current pto set up and driveshafts wont need to be modified. the only problem I see is thst I will lose my compound low. what will the top end be with 3.87 gears? 4.42 gears? I have a spare set of 4.42s. I just don't know how mush top end I would lose. I am running 22.5s. and ddon't know the overdrive ratio.of the 10 speed.

  4. pulled pan, bearing and cylinders. number 3 cylinder was sloppy and scoring the liner. looks like its time to do an inframe. all the other cylinders looked ok. no cross hatching but no scoring. ordered the inframe kit today.

  5. TTried to pull injectors today, got the front 2 out. Second one was really wet. Third was stuck. Couldn't even get it using a slide hammer. 4th and 6th came out. 5th was stuck just as bad as number 3. Now I'm panicing. Do I have to remove the heads just to get the injectors out? I just replaced the injectors this time last year.

  6. Just running it for testing purposes. No loads. And I back out of it before it gets past 900deg. It's climbing fast enough to tell what its going to do. Tested all the connections on the air to air with soapy water again. Have no bubbles. Smoke is definitely white. I haven't removed injectors yet. We cracked the lines at the pump at the pump, and each line made it run bad. Wouldn't it run bad if an injector was bad? It starts and runs so smooth. Did notice the air cleaner for the turbo was much dirtier than the one for the tip turbine. Probably just more suction from the turbo? Thought that was weird. On a side note...... Trying to learn how to type on an iPad sucks. Headed back out to truck to pull injectors. Will let you know what I find. Thanks for your help.

  7. update. can't find boost gauge, ordered new on online. Followed my driver today. have some white smoke with the dark smoke. going to run oil samples tomorrow and pressure test the cooling system. kind of looking like a headgasket or cracked sleeve. I'm out of ideas.
