  1. So we went up today and looked at the ex penn dot trucks. The one we chose is a 2001 with 41,000 miles and only 3,300 hours on it. The price is 29,000 which is more than we wanted to spend but the truck is super clean. Its a 275 hp em7 mack with an 8LL behind it. Truck is perfect minus the jake and ac. Ive been cruising the net looking at aftermarket ac systems and they seem reasonable. The jake is the only thing im wondering about can you direct me to a place to find the correct heads and parts to install a jake on the truck? Also how hard are these motors to tune up to 300 hp or so? Thanks, Eric
  2. I live in Roxbury are you in nj? So we talked about it and I think were passing on this truck. Upon looking at photos we realized how rusty the filters were (never changed??) and just the age of the truck its almost 20 years old. Now theres nothing wrong with old iron but for me to buy it id probably spend a few bucks close to 10 grand to get it right and keep it running. I don't want to spend that kind of money on a truck that's struggling to get 10k on the open market. Was cruising the net and ran across some other RD single axles that were ex state trucks with aluminum bodies. Only thing that really stuck out to me is that in the listings it says no engine brake. Anyway the state trucks are always speced heavier and nicer than most others. Can an exhaust brake be added with any effectiveness or am I kidding my self if I don't add an engine brake like a jake? heres the link to the truck. http://www.rockanddirt.com/trucks-for-sale/MACK/RD688P/invnum=9746961
  3. Went to look at it a few hours ago. Looks good couple items need to be repaired such as activation switch under the throttle for the jake brake (works when you pull up on the peddal) needs rear brakes and drums needs front tires couple cracks and splits in the fiberglass nose. Inside was clean bed has a crap paint job. Its a good truck for the money and we will probably go for it need to figure out what costs are involved such as brakes and adding a/c. It is the truck right next to jim reed. Beautiful area coming over the bear mtn bridge.
  4. heres a picture so you can get an idea. Im going up to look at it on thursday he said its registered so I plan on taking it on the highway checking high speed for shimmy or shakes, also want to find some hills to stop/start on. Not sure what the front axle is the guy at mack was helpful but didnt really give me all the info i wanted.
  5. It doesnt really make sense based on the condition of the truck In the pictures... However when i go to look at it the story may be different. He has two trucks from the same guy one ford one being this mack and both have similar mileage. He did local utility work with a 416 backhoe. I want to believe the odometer but well see what happens. Thanks for the spec sheet i did t see that before on my phone that helps. Thanks guys
  6. Also it has a crd 93a rear. Dont know if that tells you anything.
  7. Well the dealer didnt get back to me but i did call back and get a nicer guy named todd to give me a few minutes of his time. Accordidng to the vin number its an EM5260 he said its a 260 hp motor and it orginally had the maxitorque t2060 so its all original. Im going to take a look at it this week. See if its clean or beat to hell. The only other issue is mack has it listed as 456,000 miles but the odo shows 170,000. Its a one owner truck and the guy doesnt know why its saying that even going to call amck to straighten it out. Well see what happens.
  8. Hey guys new to the forum. I have a 2002 f650 and im looking to upgrade to a beavier truck for pulling my equipment. Looking at a 1995 rd694p single axle dump with 170k miles on the clock. Truck has a maxi torque 6 speed and an e5? Motor salesman isnt that bright. I sent the vin to mack to see hp ratings etc. My question is the truck doesnt have a/c is it possible to add and if so what kind of money are we talking about? Any thoughts on the maxi torque or engine? Thanks Eric
