I dont think they're worth much(could be wrong) but still cool to have.

Truck Builders is way out of price on everything. Wanted $5k for a piston and thats not adding the tax. Took a 2 hour ride up to Donavan in NH for 2300 no tax.

Do you know how much they go for Bryan? The Brandon/Bibeau smooth side go for 13k and add another 3k installed with paint, lights, etc

I always thought it would be neat to send the cones out for chroming. bet it would be pricey though.
Ive seen it done. Looked nice.
I can't find the document I had which gave the axle ratings for the old axle numbers. Sorry. Pretty sure I looked mine up somewhere (possibly a Euclid chart?), and it said 44s. Could be wrong, though, since I can't find the blasted thing.
My springs are light. Probably 34s or 38s. So, they COULD be 38s. I just plain can't remember.
They are SWDL-751s, if anybody has the numbers. Should be same rating as more common SWD-75.
And, yes, these are 5-spoke wheels. That might also point to 38s...
Definitely sounds like 38s or lighter. Do you have the paperwork from Mack Museum? That should state the rating.

I looked through my pictures and seems all 44k/46k have 6. 38s all have 8. 58s and 65s have 8. The newer 58s have 10.

I would do what superdog said and just put the chrome nut covers and paint it up. I personally like the look of the cone axles.

so is it the lite steel on the side that sucks ? or the entire body? is it the chisolm model?
The walls and tailgate structure are made of cheaper steel. Rots out completely. Add salt into the mixture and its done. The smooth side bodies are made of high tensile steel that will last longer. They also do not have paint problems as much because theres no ribs for stone to hit and chip the paint off. Theres a few DMs running around CT with the newer smooth side bodies and i think they look sharp.

I think it was up until the mid 80s. I remember there was a posting on here about someone else building them for the R-models.

I'm no expert, but something just doesn't ring true here. Wouldn't a 1985 have had the black steering wheel?
No still the tan. I believe 86 they switched over.

Truck speed?
in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Posted
Ok so we're looking at a '85 with a 285, 2stick 6 speed, and 4.64 rears. Was suppose to have tubetype tires on it. Has 11r24.5s on it now. Goodyear also makes a 11r24.5 that is the g182 which is larger then a regular 11r24.5. Was wondering what the speed would be with regular 11r24.5s vs. 12r24.5s?
