Update on the never ending discussion regarding this U. I acquired it about a month ago - and rest assured it went to a great home. Pretty good shape for its age. Ultimate goal is to attach a trailer to it so I can pull my "very slow" B model to additional shows.

Looking for some help. Just acquired a 1942 Oliver HG42 crawler and drained the battery trying to get it started. I know the tractor is a 6 volt system - but the battery that came with it (brand new) is an 8 volt.
How do you go about safely charging a 8 volt. My charger is rated for either 6 or 12. Any help would be greatly appreciated

FYI - If anybody is in the need of a B30 frame (1962ish) I have full access to a full rolling chassis.
Let me know.
Thanks

Yes - being only rated at a 122 hp - that thing has to be a lead sled with a set of tandems. My B42 with tandems is extremely slow with a 180ish horsepower.

It is finally nice to know that there is another model slower then my B42 - I don't feel so bad now.

I agree with Yarnall. I have a 56 B42 with the flathead 6 cylinder. Although I would prefer to have a diesel engine - I am going to keep the gas motor to keep it as original as possible. The only complaint I have with my B42 is that it is not built for speed. According to the spec sheet from the factory, top speed rated was 48 mph at 2800 rpm due to the super low rear end and tandem axles..

you are all correct. it was swapped out before i got it. glad it was as i much prefer the diesel any day. b42 has a 402 gasser and its not built for speed with the super low rear.

thanks to all. metal housing is fine. upon review the actual filtering mesh is crumbling as it appears it is all dried out. i need to replace it as i am afraid some small pieces may get pulled into the motor.
are these hard to find?

Having a B42 - mine originally had an en401 from the factory, but was changed out with an en402. Both are a flat head 6 cylinder.

any photos of the progress? would like to see as I have a 56 B42

Also I am looking for a diferent rear ratio to make my truck a little more highway friendly.
know that feeling all too well. my maximum in my b42 is 50 going down hill

The guy who bought my grandfathers LJ has one of those. I need to go get pictures of both.
