  1. I feel if obummer gets the election, that the whole election processe it self will be proved a fraued. I all so can see a goverment overthrow or a civil war starting, people are tired of setting back and letting the goverment dry poping them, and that was what the civil war was about not slavery it was taxes and trade, lets just go ahead and get a impeachment started just incase, he has made this country a big joke to all the other countries and they are setting back and laughing at us!! Just my two cents and it ain't worth a dime it's just two pennies, hop i didn't offend anyone but just tired of the bs i have been without work for almost 3 mounths and we need to get the ball rolling.

  2. I know that truck well. It is from St. Louis....Bridgeton, MO to be exact. The truck sat for probably 15 years. It's rough. Really rough. I believe it went thru the flood of '93 here in St. Louis on the sunless side of the waterline. It had a short water tank on the back. It went thru Ritchie Brothers auction in St. Louis in June of this year I believe. Baskin buys the lion's share of their equipment thru RB auctions. They're one of the few other outfits at the RB auctions besides me that are bidding on the old trucks.

Yea i seen it that is were we got the ch at about a month ago. The guy said it ran but it did look rough the pictures do it no justice.
  3. Just a teaser, Ill have good pics by the end of the week I still got more to do for it to be "ready" at least for now, I think my truck budget for the year is toast and yes that is a 9" custom cut drop visor for an R model cab and I can get you the info if you want it.

ok i better look at all the post before i jump to conclusion... very nice like to take her down the road and listen to the beautiful music them tin horns make!!
  4. yeah that 98 should be alot better than a old e6 350 you might want to invest in a pacbrake . i know ours is awful without the stealth/pacbrke. i think they had the jake detuned on the trucks with the stealth setup. the E7s and etech jake brakes are not that bad alot better than a dynatard

right now it's not as good as a b model cat, and they did not have much of a jake, but i had it off road and in the lower gear it held ok but i feel like it could be better, i thougth only one head was working so i unhooked one, nope they were both working, and there is quit the delay before it kicks in and it wont jake under 1300 rpm, so i am thanking it is still the steath jake setup without the pacbrake, because the switch does not interfear withe the jake, low and high can not tell any deffernce.
  5. Hi I bought an old 1985 R model Mack truck last year and it ran good but recently it has started smoking blue smoke, it had a miss in it so I changed the number 1 injector spray nozzle but truck is still smoking but not as bad can it be my fuel injection pump or something else? Would really appreciate some advice!

Does it smoke all the time or just when it cold, does it have blowby it could be low compresion or more injectors.
  6. we have a 98 CL713 with a stealth brake and it works great. .as a matter of fact it broke once and the regular jake brake with out the stelth hooked up is awful. so we put a pacbrake exhaust brake on it. we had a 95 western star with a 425 cat and the 454 with the jake and stealth combo outperformed the cat jake. i guess alot of people didnt like them but we have had good luck we bought the truck brand new and like the stealth. my dad actually built a 07 CL glider kit with a vmac 2 427 and installed a exhaust brke on that as well. works great . we are in the process of installing a pacbrke exhaust brke on our superliner with a E9 500 as well.

I was looking at it today and the exhaust brake is missing on the truck, i guess someone has already taken it off. But to be honest i have never seen a mack that had much of a jake break, the strongest one i have drove was a old 350 2v with a dynatard and it wasn't much.
  7. Well today i checked all the things i could, the oil line and the tem sensor, everything checked ok, i unpluged the econo-vance and the truck ran just fine for about 10 secounds and then it started runing rough and smokeing just like when you frist start it, plug it back up and it instaly smooths right out. what do you all thank when unplugeing the econo-vance it runs just like it does when you frist start it could it just be getting bad, or something eles?

  8. From The Mack EIS web page about Jacobs Extarder engine brakes:

"An E7 engine equipped with a Stealth™ Retarding System will have the following different, or additional, features:

    • Heavier inlet and exhaust valve springs

    • Heavier valve rotators

    • A different Jake slave piston setting

    • An Extarder unit

    • Air supply for Extarder control

    • Different electrical connections to provide for Extarder-only operation (with dash switch in LOW position), or Extarder plus Jake Brake on both heads (with dash switch in HIGH position)"

I would assume you could remove the stealth exhaust brake/gate and not have to change anything else, other than plug an air line and adapt the exhaust. You may want to change the jake adjustment from .100" to .080-.085", It might help a little.

Thanks everyone i will try it.
  9. Does anyone know what the diffence in a stealth break and a regular jake is, the 98 454 we have has a steath and it says on the dash for best proformance use at 1800 to 2100, it hardly makes a sound when jakeing and does not seem to hold very good, the 94 we use has a better jake, so what is the deal with the stealth i can't find any info on it.

  10. Shuting down the coal bussiness is very bad for our country, and trying to replace it with natural gas is not the answer. You may say it is cheap and we have alot of it but i have worked in the oil and natural gas my whole life. If we take out the coal plants and start gas powerd plants the price of gas will sky rocket, the same way gas has at the pumps, and this is what the big gas companys want, They have flooded the market with gas just for this reason, to make it cheap and show we have plenty hopeing that this will help the transission from coal, but i am telling you people if coal is replaced with gas it will be way more expensive than coal and small compainies will be booming as well as the big, it will be good for me and people that work in oil and gas, but what about the electric bills, i am telling you guys we need coal. Right now gas is about 3 bucks a cfm 6 years ago when the demand was up it was 12 and 13 bucks for the same amount we were coverd up with work and my heating bill at home was unreal!!

Just my two cents, i know it ain't worth a dime, it's just two pennys right!!

i will say this much, i do not feel either romney or obama have the countries best intrest at heart, but i have already seen how obama party feels about our country and i feel it is time to give someone eles a try, romney could be even worse if elected, but i would reither take a chance then to let obama get the seat again and keep up his foolishness.

  12. Its normal for engines with the econovance system. Should take 5-10 seconds for it to clear, if longer it may be due to wear in the econovance, oil psi issue or timing solenoid is "slow". These systems are 15+ yerars old so wear could be the reason why. If you don't have any faults and it runs ok, I wouldn't worry.

This truck has almost 600000 miles on it and today i had to restart it twiced and it was about 65 outside. I would like to get this issue fixed before winter hits. What would be a good place to start. Is there away to check the timing solenoid, like advanceing it manually and starting it, i don't know i just don't want to spend alot of money for parts and they don't fix it, we have done this before, so any way to check the system and if i have it hooked up on a computer will it show the problem, i do not have a malfution light on.
  13. I have driven trucks with every engine you can think of and the E9 is by far the strongest puller of any of them, Im not just talking about these new sissy trucks with detroit 12.7's and Mercedes 12l either. I have had a Detroit series 60 500 making more like 550, two N-14's one 460 and one cranked up 525 that rear wheeled 570 now that one did pull good, I had two 475 Cat's, 3-350 Mack's 2-460's all but one 350 ETECH's and a 427 ASET AI and after I went nuts on the guys at Mack about that one pulling like a freakin GEO METRO and STAXXS got ahold of the computer the 427 was a beast it ran away from the 460's on a hill. But I still have to say an E9 440 with a trtxl 107 trans and 4.42 gears is the best pulling truck I have ever sat in and I got 6mpg, you cant do that with a new MP10 and an M-Drive.

Well ihave to say the strongest trucks i have every drove, one was a mack superliner and the other was a frieghtliner. The mack had a hot little b model cat in it that was eat up with power , the other was a c15 550 it done good. But i have to say the superliner was very impressive. Someone told me once, a diesel mechanic, that all the macks with cats or cummins in them ran better then other trucks with the same set ups, now i don't know if this is true or not but i also had a buddy that had a 86 r 700 with a 400 big cam in it, that was a tri axle dump that would really haul the mail.
  14. Looks like we have highjacked someone eles post, sorry, But i know a guy that done heavy hauling here local and he had a 89 superliner with a 500 e9 in it the truck puled great but he always said when you got 300000 miles on it you might as well tear it down and rebuild it because if you didn't it would go down on you. Now that wouldn't be many miles for a over the road truck but for heavyhauling and being local truck it was probley like 700000 on a road truck, but it did sound good with a d 11 cat on its back, it would go by the shop about 50 mph loaded down with all kinds of heavy equipment on its back, no problem with anything i every seen it haul, and it was a good looking truck.

  15. Well believe it or not the first third and 5th trucks I drove had detroits the first two were 6v92 silver's the last was a 60 series, and a whole lot of our railroad maintenance of way equipment has 2 stroke detroits, everything from a 3-53 to an 8v92 which I just swapped in a Plasser ballast stabilizer. actually it was an 8v92 silver I put in it, I have a pic somewhere I think, I have been working on a machine with a 4-53 this week and did some injector work on a 4-71 last month. I have a 6v53 found for a possible pickup truck repower I am playing with in my mind well see if I ever do it. I guess for now my superliner project will keep me busy I have plenty to do there to get it to the ATHS show in Cookeville in two weeks.

Well looks like you are well educated on the old two strokes, We have a old international dump that we just parked about a month ago that has one of the old 671T in it, now the truck is a blast to drive empty, its close to 300 hp but loaded it is more work than fun, but for a engine that is 426 cubic ince it does good just don't stop on a hill, with the 7 speed trans it will not pull out loaded on a hill, just shake all over and turn the sky black before it dies!
  16. I am at a loss for words but here are some I remember, if your trying to find a detroit follow the oil trail, if you like an engine that sounds like a weedeater on crack get a detroit, If your oil bill is higher than your fuel bill it must be a detroit, your trying to stop the oil leak on your detroit....ha,ha,ha,ha yeh right, good luck with that!

Detroits were a poor boys engine, they were quit reliable but they were two stroke and you had to drive them like you were mad at them all the time, i have nothing against them and i thank it is amazing that they would even run at all and pull as good as they did. Point being that in there hay days they where a good choice with engine like 220 cummins and gas engines but now days they have been so many better engine built over the past 30 years that the only one i would want is the 8v 92 unless it was in a old cabover that all it did was go to the shows, it is fun to lung they down and them floor them and see all that black smoke come out of them, but try pulling 80000 lbs with a 318 everything will pass you.
  17. If you can change the aux gear like one of the guys said on your trans and add a back box off a 14613 speed you will make it a double overdrive, yes you will gain more top end and can split the last 4 gears, like i said i ran a superliner with this trans and it helped it out on the top end about 15 or 20 miles an hour, but if your engine will only turn 1800 you would probely lung bad in high gear you would proberly want to have the engine rpm rasied to 2100 or 2200. Yes your low hole would still be the same it would not effect that. The superliner had a mack 9 speed in it to start with which was a overdrive but the truck was gearbound on the freeway, doing the swap helped it on the highway, but it did have a 3406b 400 hp cat in it. I mention the 8LL because i thank your trans is what it is made from they just add a deep reduction box on it they both have a good 1 gear and the ratio going up in the gears are the same, with the big hole overdrive. In my opinion i would talk to a good tranny shop if i could find one and see if just putting a 13 speed back box on your transmission is the way to go, that way you keep you low hole instead of getting a RTO14613 and fliping it which would help you on the top end but you do loose the low hole when you flip it because the ratios in each gear are high after this the ratio between them stay the same so what you gain on top you loose on the bottom.

Oh yea and if you have bud wheels you can go with a 11r24.5 tire and it will help you on top end as well.
  18. First of all i wanted to thank ALL of YOU for sharing your superior knowledge of all this so far!

The truck i drive is a RD mack with a e7 350 in it topping out at 1800 rpm. i have 22.5 tires on it. A RTXF14609B trans with .73 overdrive. I have 442 rears. From what i gather so far is that if i can get a 13 speed in it and change an auxillary to .63 overdrive i would have a setup that still does what mine does but split the top gears.

Would this give me a lower crusing rpm in top gear at 65?

would my top speed still be 65?

would my low hole still be the same?

I was looking at a chart for the 8ll and it does look like a good trans for the low hole but on top end looks the exact same for every ratio up till 8

Is doing this swap going to increase mpg at all?

If you can change the aux gear like one of the guys said on your trans and add a back box off a 14613 speed you will make it a double overdrive, yes you will gain more top end and can split the last 4 gears, like i said i ran a superliner with this trans and it helped it out on the top end about 15 or 20 miles an hour, but if your engine will only turn 1800 you would probely lung bad in high gear you would proberly want to have the engine rpm rasied to 2100 or 2200. 19. I forgot all about flipping the gears I have never seen it done only heard about it from back in the day, with the overall gearing hes got(short tires 4.42 gears) he might be good with that.

Seems to me you can gain about 15 ti 20 miles an hour on top end with a fliped box, with 4.64 ratio and tall rubber the old supeliner would top out about 82 and 70 was no sweet for it and if i rember right it was a rt 15613 that was fliped, any good trans shop should be able to do this for him.
  20. Actually if memory serves me right the eaton transmission rear (OD) box is not there to get an OD trans to run double OD its made to fit a NON OD trans there is something about the gear tooth count that wont work on an OD trans, the same with the LOW gear set box for an 8LL and 18/15L etc. the Low gear set box works with the OD trans the OD box works with the direct trans. I cant rmember what it was but Ill do some looking for my old overhaul manuals.

Yes come to thank of it you may be right, but he can get a 13 and have it fliped and make it a doubleover but lo gear is not much in them.
