  1. BC MACK: Are you going to do any island shows with it this year.one in vic,two in Port Alberni, one in Duncan.Bob D

    Sorry Bob...

it will stay wrapped up in Squamish until I finish another project so I won't get to work on it for over a year... then I have to get it up to snuff for an ICBC collector plate... then I will let the V8 loose.!!.

the ferry will add a considerable cost to visiting the Island, but not saying NO, just maybe, one year!!!

I'm quite surprised it was not snapped up by an Island Mack fan, it had sat in Qualicum / Parksville since 2005

  2. An update for you... truck was "delivered" by a 1976 Kenworth wrecker from Vancouver Island.. it spent more time on a boat than actually driving.. just gave it a good cleaning and wrapped it up, it has to wait until I finish my current project... if I have two running at the same time neither will get finished before I enter my wooden box!!! the seller sent me a couple of prints of the MH in action, one attached for you. Sorry forgot to put in the address in previous post.

Yeah, yeah... Canadian dollar worth more. But we don't have loonies or toonies yet!

I have sent $25 to $50 depending on what I am asking for.

thank you for the info.... I promise not to send him toonies, you US guys get confused with our coloured monopoly money banknotes, now the $50's are plastic and clear... maybe I'll just send Canadian Tires dollars instead.. LOL

  4. Nice MH... Have I not seen a picture of this truck or a twin of it on Hankstruckpictures.com? Good luck with the restore and good for you on keeping her looking stock.

    http://www.google.co...-AN8CyrmjaVztBw

Looks the same.... link of picture above...

But, I noticed that in the picture it only has one block heater hole in the cab step area. Usually any Mack with an E9 have the double plug recepticals.

Especially if the truck is sold in Canada.

So this one could be the sister truck with the 3406B Cat.

YES... that is the Cat powered sister when they operated for Buursma... and if you blow up the picture you can see it wears the "stolen" gold bulldog off my truck!!!!!!

there are two more photos of the sister on Hanks... Bill Robertson collection.

Yes, mine has the two recepticles in the left step...

  5. Nice find......do you have any pictures of the interior?

    mike

    Hi Mike

well, I sorta forgot to do that... while I did take a few detail shots within the cab to remind me of the "issues" all I have is one sent me by the seller.... do you have a particular need? I know there are 4 levels of trim but from all I have read I cannot determine what each "level" actually looks like... other than 'grey' I can't tell you what I have.

  6. Thats a cool truck. Im glad you saved it and plan on restoring it. What color are you goona paint it?

    Hi Vinny

    glad you enjoyed the photos

at the moment I have no plans for paint, it was originally brown... while I am looking for historical accuracy I may opt for a "factory" looking 80's style of stripes or designs... NO bling, NO giant bumper, NO massive sun visor... you get the idea, it will be very sympathetic and Mack looking without going overboard.. my first thoughts were black chassis, grey engine, red cab.. see how it goes, I am looking at old Mack brochures for ideas... to get a 'collector plate' I have to be authentic and prove it is period correct.

  7. Well, I just couldn't resist this one... as a cabover junkie it has to be the ultimate collectible to add to the herd.

1993, V8-500hp, Mack 18spd, Mack diffs, Mack air-ride, double frame, double steering boxes, 20,000lb front and 44,000lb tandem.... 770,000kms 480,000miles... spent all of its life on Vancouver Island and to Vancouver area with Kingsley, Buursma and Ryler Bulk running super B's to max GVW of 63,500kg / 140,000lb.

Mechanicals were well looked after, engine has recent inframe, heads, injectors, turbo and cam... truck was sold and serviced by Nanaimo Mack... has not done any serious hauling since 2005 and was stored outside for the last two years. Not that much interest out there for it and it was possibly destined for parting out, but the owner liked my plan for restoration so was very helpful with the sale.

It will be stored for about a year so I can finish off my current project... needs cleaning up but I think a swan is under all that grunge!!!!

No gold bulldog one of you just said!!!! yes, back in the day the driver of a sister vehicle convinced the company owner that they fitted the wrong colour dog on his Cat powered MH613 and they were traded..!!!! so, one of my missions is to find a gold dog or get the siver one re-plated... advice please!!

I need the contact info at the Mack museum for vehicle history, anyone got an e-mail contact (and suggested donation.... Canadian dollars are worth more!!)

Input always welcome as I will be searching for maintenance and owners manuals...

make sure you report in after you see it.. I too was tempted, requested photos etc... then reality set in as it was too far to trek...

hope you strike a deal, it needs a bit of fixing from what I could see from the photos but not bad given the lean supply of tidy F models. Don't forget the earplugs for the drive home!!.

I will keep my eyes open for a Cruiseliner or Ultraliner nearer to me...

  9. Gentlemen

As a newbie on this site I took some time to gauge what interests you guys the most but still haven't figured it out..!!! :loldude:

So, I will show you what interests me.... cabovers..!!! call it a perversion or S&M but I never got used to sitting in a truck cab looking out over a hood, just seemed wrong..

I will have to admit that I surf truck sites A LOT, not only Macks but other US made trucks (no names) and since I am from the UK originally I take a good look at sites "over the pond".

I have followed this thread and recent pics should give some of you high blood pressure and "regional tingling"...

    http://www.trucknetu...=81762&start=30

    snipped two photos for illustration

    and Brockways

and just for those who like the hooded version

    http://www.trucknetu...hp?f=35&t=80196

    Iranian Container Co.

the chatter is mainly old truck drivers re-living the good old days, comments and phrases are definately British... (they're not trucks but lorries or wagons!!)... but for a history buff like me they are most enjoyable posts.

Anyway, if this stuff is of interest to the majority here then from time to time I will extract from other truck sites and give you a tour of "Mack World"...

    cheers

  10. Hi att and Gerlof

F model Macks like yours were directly imported into the UK in the mid 70's by OHS... they also had an unusual heavy duty spec Seddon Atkinson 400, all for the Middle East run.

a thread was recently started on this forum about OHS, if you search the "old time lorries" section with key word "Mack" there may be some more info to your liking..

hope the info is of interest to you

they certainly brightened up my day when they turned up where I worked, Rylands of London.

    cheers

thanks for that info, I figured that the cab could be a problem for trim, knobs, gauges, door parts but am learning that it is composed of common items from other types, actually quite logical when you think about it...

the seller has a parts donor truck, the one he is selling has a single tachograph and I was figuring how I could convert back to seperate tach/speedo.. donor truck will come in handy for that.

anyone know where I can view on-line any literature that either shows or clearly explains the different levels of cab interior trim. I have heard of 'level 4' but not sure what that really is. I've seen both cloth or vinyl seats and dashes with extra gauges. I found a few Mack brochures on-line but even though Mack state availability of trim levels they never define what they are.

Magnum.. I assume is a top level of trim? anything mechanically improved?

sorry for the newbie questions, haven't been around Macks for many years but I am absorbing info fast and will soon know what I am talking about!!!

    thanks

  12. The prices for the 70's Scania and Volvo cabovers is scary, even with my Canadian buck on a high... I looked into importing an F89 6x4 from EU (better engine and brakes than the F88) and the costs were WAY too much. Highly collectible and sought after. There is an early 80's F10 or 12 in my area but it's like finding a ghost, I saw it a few times but it was gone before I turned my head. Others have seen it so I'm not having flashbacks...

When working in the UK we had many visits of Mack trucks, F series cabovers, at our shop dropping by for spares for other makes in their fleet.. a company called OHS used them for the Middle East run which was the big money maker of the day, UK overland to the Gulf or Tehran via EU, Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria et al.... makes those Ice Road Truckers look like pansies..!!! check youtube "Destination Doha" for "WTF are they doing there" and for what defines a 70's sleeper cab over the pond.. :whistling:

I think I will settle for the Ultraliner if it is in half decent shape, going to view in 2-3 weeks, I like the tin worm "resitant" cab and that it has Mack components.. the shortage of parts is common to most elder vehicles so not a big worry for a personal vehicle, but a big no if it was for commercial use. An older vehicle from the 70's would be more favoured but their condition would dictate more restoration than I want to get into as I'm running out of years to get all my projects done... gotta get out and drive!!!

if there are any MH or E9 owners that can guide me towards reliable parts suppliers I would be grateful.

    thanks

  13. Hi,

Back in the day, in the UK, I was a mechanic on Volvo F88/F10's, moved to Vancouver Canada in 1980 and worked for Western Mack. After a 15 year stint in aviation I'm back wrenching on buses for our city Transit. I'm a hobbiest restorer of planes, trucks and buses... my current project is a bumper-bumper resto on a 1956 Scenicruiser Coach with an 8V71. I'm sure there is a Mack restorer in the PA area that is doing one for a customer, anyone know him?

I have an itch for a cabover, maybe the F88 never got out of my system, just for car/truck shows and bobtailing around as a private truck.. so I've been looking around for a year or so and while a Kenworth K100E Aerodyne has a certain appeal the condition vs price is outrageous. So, a recent advert for a CH613 locally got me interested and some research piqued my interest. I never saw these when at Mack in the early 80's so had to start asking around and heard nothing negative.

I need advice... while I can figure out the blatently obvious (40 years of busted knuckles does that) I need input on what to look for... so, what is the achilles heel of the MH???

1989 sleeper, E9 V8 500HP with recent turbo, rebuilt Mack 12spd, rebuilt Mack axles, air-ride rear suspension, 500,000km's....

But, there's a downside... the owner found a small amount of coolant in the oil when draining... so he pulled the pan and presurised the coolant... but no sign of any leaks...

So... how good is the V8????? any inherent problems? has he found a common issue with cracked heads - gaskets - liner seals??? do I ignore it or run away???

I would like to buy locally, time is short to go jetting around the country and not cost effective at this price range... not many cabovers left on this side of the country and importing to Canada CAN be a PITA if things go sideways at the border...

please throw anything at me... I've been reading here for a while and you seem to be a reasonable bunch of Mack gearheads..

    thanks

    Sean
