1kymack Posted 13 hours ago Share Posted 13 hours ago On my 1984 300 engine the oil level shows full with the engine cold first thing in the morning. Reinsert the dipstick and the level is half way between add and normal. Leave the dipstick in for about an hour and remove it, and it will show full again. Which is the correct reading? Yes it’s on level ground and yes the dipstick is fully inserted. I have checked the oil hundreds of times in machines and I have never seen this happen before. Try pulling the valve covers and make sure the oil return holes are not clogged with sludge..
