redward Posted May 6, 2018 Share Posted May 6, 2018 I just picked up a 1998 RD690, with a 275HP E7. I drove it home and noticed fluid on the block.. It appears to be coming from the manifold, that returns the coolant back to the rad. The dual plastic tanks are empty and the coolant looks discolored, when wiped with paper towel. I will send out an oil sample to see if there is an internal leak. Can anyone add any insight or history of the same occurrence? The truck was last licenced back in 2014, oil change info was at 16,000 and it now has 16,717. It runs well, doesn't smoke, it pulls OK, but it is a cab and chassis, so no load. Very Common on a cold engine !A little more info would help! note that if the coolant has black oil in it it could have a failed engine oil cooler If it has yellowish look to it it can be a failed trans or fuel cooler If so equipped! Thanks for your help. We will closely watch. I will be doing a full service and will submit an oil sample. I wasn't sure what info is required; please advise.
