Speed
does anyone know how to remove the lifters from a flat head gas engine?. One is broken in pieces and has fallen out, are the units that hold them in place replaceable? Not sure about that engine in particular, but a lot of the old flathead engines had "mushroom" lifters-the bottom was wider than the barrel of the lifter. On those engines you have to either find a way to hold all the lifters off the cam and remove the cam first,or pull the engine and turn it upside down, and remove the cam. Either way,tha cam would have to come out,I hope that isn't the case with your engine. If it's built like my EN354,I have bad news for ya,bro. Mushroom lifters. Couldn't tell form the design illustrations in my manual if the lifters run in replaceable sleeves or just the finished block surface. Speed thanks for the reply, it appears that they are indeed mushroom type lifters and seem to be in clusters of two................judging by the pieces that fell out when I removed the inspection covers, it looks like cast from part of the inside block as well, was just wondering if these clusters were replaceable or if the engine is junk.
