I just bought this 1968 DM477S and I have some questions. First of all the guy in the photo is named Charlie, he's been driving the truck for a dozen years or so and he delivered her to me. My hat is off to guys like Charlie who make their living in the trucks and treat them like they should. This truck came with a quart of oil bought at the same time as the truck was bought. Charlie told me that she never needed the quart, she uses no oil. I decided to keep the quart in the truck for a good luck piece. Take care of yourself Charlie. The guys who he works for are real and got him a newer truck so he would have air conditioning in the heatwave so that he would be okay. Charlie says he would rather keep the old DM.

Anyway I don't know the significanse of 477 versus 400. So if anyone does I would appreciate the info.

Does anyone know how I can rig the passenger seat so someone can actually sit there?

She is mainly metal and not fibreglass. She was shipped to Chicago to an oil company and then apparently converted into a tiltbed. I plan to keep her on the road to haul John Deere tractors that I restore as a hobby.

This is my third Mack and the only thing I would like to add is air conditioning. Any ideas? I know that some of you are snickering. Truth is I intend to add a good stereo and travel to shows. However if I want company I'm going to have to come up with a way for someone to sit next to me. In the past friends would only go on one trip, if it was in the summer, we cooked and I couldn't talk them into a second trip.

On the driver's side of the truck are steps that are rotting out. Anyone know where I can get a replacement set?

Thanks to all.
