  1. I just bought this 1968 DM477S and I have some questions. First of all the guy in the photo is named Charlie, he's been driving the truck for a dozen years or so and he delivered her to me. My hat is off to guys like Charlie who make their living in the trucks and treat them like they should. This truck came with a quart of oil bought at the same time as the truck was bought. Charlie told me that she never needed the quart, she uses no oil. I decided to keep the quart in the truck for a good luck piece. Take care of yourself Charlie. The guys who he works for are real and got him a newer truck so he would have air conditioning in the heatwave so that he would be okay. Charlie says he would rather keep the old DM. Anyway I don't know the significanse of 477 versus 400. So if anyone does I would appreciate the info. Does anyone know how I can rig the passenger seat so someone can actually sit there? She is mainly metal and not fibreglass. She was shipped to Chicago to an oil company and then apparently converted into a tiltbed. I plan to keep her on the road to haul John Deere tractors that I restore as a hobby. This is my third Mack and the only thing I would like to add is air conditioning. Any ideas? I know that some of you are snickering. Truth is I intend to add a good stereo and travel to shows. However if I want company I'm going to have to come up with a way for someone to sit next to me. In the past friends would only go on one trip, if it was in the summer, we cooked and I couldn't talk them into a second trip. On the driver's side of the truck are steps that are rotting out. Anyone know where I can get a replacement set? Thanks to all.
  2. I don't think I have overdrive---I think it is direct.java script:emoticon('', 'smid_2') How tough is it to install OD? Thanks for the response.
  3. So I finally got my B-75 on the road this weekend. She's got a duplex tranny, 22" rears, 4.5 ratio, and her top speed at 1900-2000 rpms was 48mph. With a tail wind she hit 49mph. I checked the ratio by counting revolutions and by looking on the Mack spec sheet. She is a single axle with a 673 engine. We were in the Granny lane and being passed like we were standing still. I think the speedometer is correct. Thanks.
  4. java script:emoticon('', 'smid_3') Thanks for the welcome.
  5. I'll pass along your complement to the old girl. She has hauled tractors for many years. On her visor is the combined height of the deck and the JD 450 and JD 350 that she hauled around for a construction company. I do get a lot of looks when I pull up with her. Last time the deck caught fire from a leak in the muffler. I couldn't see the trail of smoke and flames behind me. But when I slowed down to pull into the show I got my share of attention. It took a few days to start her up again but she's no worse for wear. I hope she can make it through the season. I carry an extra fire extinguisher now. Thanks for the welcome. Steve
  6. I go by the name IndustrialDeere cause I restore John Deere Industrial tractors for a hobby. I have been hauling my tractors around with a B-42 camelback. Trouble is the B-42 is slow--too slow to take on the highway. My tractors weigh up to 20,000 pounds. I was thinking of a B-61, but I would like to get one that is either in great original shape or restored. I would like to be able to go to tractor/truck shows in a 500 mile radius. I look forward to your feedback. Steve
