I used to gawk at your stuff when I delivered auto parts to the collision shop next door to your yard. Cool to see you made it here!

I don’t remember hearing the fate of the Superliner that you used to drive with the frame issues. Seeing that your still in the R I’m guessing the Superdog is still sidelined.
You keep the R looking great! One of the things I enjoy about living in the Philly area is all the old Macks that are on the road every day.

Yeah still sidelined. Every once in a while I throw a line out to my boss about having it rebuilt.

No they're incandescent, it's just the way I edited the picture that makes them look really bright.

Better get the tanks and fenders shined up to match the rest.
Lord knows I tried but they're beat. All the aluminum needs to be sanded and then polished out with a machine. I try to keep it all acid washed and clean at least. Plus, the fuel man spills fuel on the tanks daily 😕

Still doing 50 a week at night! I heard this job is supposed to be going to Christmas at least, and then we have another job running all winter with somewhere between 5-8 Triaxle's daily. Hopefully I can make a full 12 months on the lowboy.
Got the rig looking really clean too. Just took this last night.

As the nights get colder, the 12 speed in my truck gets harder to shift for the first 15 minutes of driving. I recall a "warm up" procedure on the 6 speeds where you put the main in 3rd and the aux in neutral, can I do something similar with the 12 speed? I was thinking 3rd gear position with the splitter in neutral.

I've seen a guy trying to sell the rollback on Facebook recently. It's now painted white.

I stopped updating my Philly trucks thread because every time I try to upload a picture, the site gives me an error message.

The rear cab bushings are easy to replace but to be honest I dont think it will do much to make it ride better. Cab air ride would be better if the truck is set up to convert over fairly easy.
I don't honestly expect it to, I'd just like the truck to look like the cab isn't sitting on top of the fuel tanks.

It already rides like it has square wheels lol so I'll take any improvement.
I'm gonna call the local Mack dealer and price them out. I also have access to a crane to make things easier.

Thinking about trying to tackle the cab bushings on the R I drive if it's not too much of a chore. Anyone done it recently that could offer some tips? I wanna know how deep I'm getting in before I start the job. Is it as simple as unbolting the rear bushings and popping the new ones in? Or do the front mounts have to come apart at the same time? I'm assuming the cab would have to be lifted a little bit in the rear since it's sagging so badly.
The truck is a 1978 R612ST and it has a bar across the frame that the two cab bushings are attached to. I'd love to post pics, but this forum keeps giving me an error message when I do.

Brian Blair is a cool guy and a total Mack nut. He has a lot more than just that Superliner in his shed. I ran into him last week and he offered me some spare parts, just gotta find the time to get over to his shop.

Pretty cool except for the auto. With that turbo setup, I'd like a stick or two so I could hear them sing at different RPMs.

Lund Visors
Doesn't look like either of the 2 Lund visors they pressed for Mack cabs. The one on my Superliner doesn't have a Lund part number on it either.

unusal visors too...
Aren't those factory Superliner visors? The 86 I drove at work had the same one.

I'm going through this right now with the 78 I drive at work. Replaced the cab side latch and it was quiet for a day and then the rattle came back, just not as bad. The door side mechanism is missing one screw, but the other two are tight so I don't think there's much movement there. I used the paint line from the old latch to line up the new one and the door closes tight and is a little tough to open at times, but I still get a rattle.
Theres no radio in this truck either!

Definitely not R model. I just put one on my work truck and it doesn't look like that.

Tell Herbie to fix it that cheap tightass,he got that way hanging around uncle dan.
If it were up to me, it would be getting new rails stretched to accommodate a lift axle and then it would get an in-frame rebuild and be ready for another 30 years of service.

Unfortunately it's not up to me. Even if it's patched the rest of the rails are spread really badly. It's up to the boss to decide it's fate.
I had the R out on its maiden voyage this morning to pick up a backhoe. Actually rides surprisingly smooth with weight on it. It needs a drivers seat really badly though.

Xdudebrahx,I pass you today on rt 1 at old Lincoln highway.I was in the red loud mustang.Hour tractor looks great.
Thanks! Unfortunately that was its last day of service for the foreseeable future. Found a bad crack in the frame and it's future is uncertain. For now I'll be driving our old 77.

I have every picture saved that's on the internet of the old granaries. I'm hoping someone has something in a personal collection that I haven't seen before.

I know there's a lot of Philly knowledge in here. Does anyone happen to have any pics of the old grain elevator that once stood in Anderson's Allegheny Ave yard?

I'm falling in love with the old 77 R model we have at work, so I'll use that as my base.
300+ tip turbine, 12 speed with the low hole on the small stick (cool factor).
keep the old school Red Dot ac unit for all that leg room, add a high back, low ride air seat, add cab air ride from a Superliner and maybe swap out the camelback for bags.
I'd keep it on spokes all the way around or do aluminum up front with spokes out back. 24.5 rubber all around.
Dynamat the interior to keep some noise down, tint the windows a little bit to keep it cooler inside.
Step up to 5" right after the turbo and run it to dual 5" mitre cut stacks.
Paint it back to its "original" Monza Red with yellow and orange pinstripes.
Its already got a decent wheelbase but I'd like to see another 24" in it. Nothing too crazy, just enough to smooth out the ride.
