  1. :) hey all, I got home from the hospital yesterday from back surgery the doc says it was a complete sucsess, so I should be up and around pretty soon. tried to get as much work done on the trucks as I could before I went in as I wont be able to do much for a while! at least I can keep up with everything going on with the board :thumb: Doug
  2. yep doug I did the drag car thing too once....  drag cars then, street classic cars, then 4x4 trucks, then restorations, then old tractors now old macks... whats next, bulldozers????? :mack1:

:D got the begainings of the next phase (bulldozers) I'll post them in my photo gallery, check it out! then there is the old blade, and the haul truck, I have a never ending supply of projects if I want to persue them LOL Doug ;)

Awesome...those will work.  I am waiting for a guy to call me back from alcoa.  I also called Accuride for a quote.  So out of 2 companies, maybe we can get something happening.  Inital numbers are looking like a minimum buy of 500 pieces no mix and match so we may have to settle on 22.5 only.

I guess 22.5's will work the originals were 20" & 22", some will want them in 24.5 though. 22.5's will work better for me as I have plenty of take off tires, I usually replace them while they still have a little tread to use for spares! I have 24.5's on my KW,but severe lack of road worthy tiresLOL! oh well I have a set of diffs with higher gears I can put in the KW ( 3:70's) it has 4:33's now) any way I have my fingers crossed! Thanks, Doug

  4. Hi,

Where I got the truck was about a block off of the main hiway that went in front of the firestone plant ( kinda looked like it was shut down ) the street was directly across from the main entrance on a dead end street, the guy I got it from had a freight terminal there that looked like he auctioned off everything, He didnt look to old, and he said he had more interrest in his drag car than the truck.

    Fred :SMOKIE-LFT:

 a few years back if I would have had to make a choice, I probably would have went with the drag car, but now I would definitly choose the big trucks!! ( even though they cost more than my hot rods ever did) Doug
  5. Barry, I just got a reply from Alcoa, they might be interested in doing the 5 hand hole wheels. I want to forward the email I got from them to you, but not sure how to go about doing it , any ideas? guess I should have PM'd you Doug

Hi Barry! I forwarded the email from Alcoa to the address yoy sent me. did you recieve it? what do you think? any ideas on how to go about making this happen? I think most of us would want the ball and seat type wheel, but there are some that have swapped rear cut offs with air ride that might want hub piloted type. maybe we could get a list of members that would want to purchase them to get an idea on placing an order? Thanks, Doug

  6. well the problem is that it is a tractor now that I tow with.  SO that is causing a problem

Alot of people use Gulfway, but they dont provide coverage in all statrs, I live in NM and they wont cover my KW. How ever I had gotten a quote from them for registering the truck in my dads name in Arizona , then got a quote from my ins carrier for comm ins on my exesting policy, it was cheaper than Gulfway! Doug

  7. This is the place to do it!  Other forums call it a "Group Buy."  Alot of manufactures are anxious to accept group buys from online forums because of the volume they can sell...so go for it!  If you need any help, let me know!!

  8. On the rocker cover there should be a plate with the info regarding DOB, and Hp rating,My 500 has it on the left front cover. nigel

Thanks, maybe the reason it was swapped out for the cummins was because of the lack of parts availability and cost I am going up there today to look for some steer axel brakes for truxnut, so I will look for the engine info then Thanks Doug

  9. up at my family's saw mill there is an engine that was pulled out of an R 700 L, and replaced with a BCIII 400 cummins. I was wondering what it is and if it would be worth rebuilding for high performance. it is a V8 with turbo, where should I look to find size and model #? thanks, Doug

  10. I have a set of shutters from a B-81SX they are in decent condition... They are vertical shutters..I believe yours would be horizontals.. But they are for free if ya want them.. Just come get em.. or I'll send em.. you pay shipping if you would want them...  Good luck.. Steve

Thanks Steve, but I have the shutters, they were only hauling off the expensive scrap like brass, copper, and aluminum, thank goodness they were not hauling iron I would be looking for alot more parts !! :D Doug

  11. you are running drive tires on the steer axel? are they all position tires? if not I wouldnt leave them on there very long, that might be your problem also I cant figure why any one would run caps on the steers! Doug

My western has the 3 leaf right now. I noticed the newer trucks have the 2 leaf so that itself will make the truck ride a little harsher. I am hoping to get my front wheel balenced soon. the front tires on the truck are new drives. I removed the old steers as the MO state gave me a ticket for low tread ware and made me get them replaced with recaps!!! go figure

The drive tires may make the ride harsh also??

As far as the cab shaking I am thinking that the rear shocks are shot and the tires may be not balanced properly?? one thing I never under stood was why Mack only used 2 shocks for the rear I have gathered the parts for 2 more shocks and hope to install them when I rebush the rear end..

Had a big family BBQ yesterday, and told my step dad the only we he can eat is if he gets up in the hood and gets the truck running.

Earlier in the week I bought some new cables for the batteries, my co-hort Chris put them on and then my step dad climbed up in, fudged around with what we think is the cable or linkage that controls the engine stop cable and she started right up !!

She ran for a while then we took her out onto the LIE for a few exits, she ran real nice, a little bumpy cause the tires had some flat spots but the truck ran nice.

I think though that I need to either have the generator rebuilt or replaced since the truck doesnt seem to be holding a charge, after all that running, it didnt start up again.

Hi Donna, glad to hear you got her going!! its always a blast taking that first shake down ride!! cause then you find out right away what other things need worked on! have fun with the progress, Doug :SMOKIE-LFT:

  13. How many of you would be interested in purchasing some new 5 hole Alcoa's if they were available? I got on the Alcoa web site and e-mailed the person in charge of marketing for the commercial wheel division, and asked them if there were enough of a demand would they consider a limited production run of 20" & 22" 5 hole wheels, also the possability of tooling up some 5 hole wheels in 22.5" & 24.5" tubeless to get the traditional look with the benefits of modern radial tires. I know that there has got to be more people out there than just me that would want them. If they see how big a demand there is they just might do it, I am sure that they could sell alot of them to owners of newer trucks also think they would look good on some of the newer trucks, just need to find a way to convince them!! Doug ;)

  14. as I am going to have alot of time to plan my B-833 project I have been doing alot of wondering to my self. Here are a few of the questions I was wondering about: #1 the cab on the B-833 is extreamly rough, no rust, but lots of welded up cracks, and dents. now I know the floor pans are different than the regular B series, so I was wondering about cutting out the floor pan and re welding it in to another cab and putting it on my chassis. could it be done with out too much trouble? #2 I have the other truck (B-62) I can use for the cab. only problem is that I have not seen any other B-62's so I was wondering if it would not be a good idea to part it out. can any one tell me the differences betwen the B-62 and the B-61?? I called the Mack Museum, and gave them the info on the two trucks, now just have to wait for them to send the info they have! The B-833 SX is serial # 1030, and the B-62 SX is # 1451, so if I under stand right the B-833 would be # 30, and the B-62 # 451 ? still new to this Mack stuff but Im gettin there! Doug

  15. After a long heated "discussion" about my temporary lack of income, and no lack of incoming bills, ( I am off work with a bad back, waiting on surgery) not to mention the other two trucks that I am always working & spending money on my wife has convinced me to wait on putting any time & money into the B-833 project, so I guess I will just have to keep tabs on every one elses projects. of course I have her permission to buy & do what ever I want, if I should be lucky enough to win the lottery!!! The way things are looking now it will be at least next summer before I can even start on her. I ought to have lots of plans by then!! :) Doug
  16. Doug, Sorry for the late reply, but I need to be in the right mood to sit here and peck at this keyboard. It takes me forever to type a message. Those radiators probably won't go to far, so when I have time to stop, ( new 14 hour rule has been playing hell on my back road treasure hunts ) I'll get some photos and price. Where do you get to in PA ? E-mail me your e-mail address so we can talk in private . jtwoge@zoominternet.net , John

Hi John, sent you a PM ( pretty long one HA HA ) let me know if you recieve it ok, this being a new board and all thanks, Doug :SMOKIE-LFT:

  17. Call the Mack Museum. Those folks over there are amazing and very helpful..

    call 610-266-6767 Monday, Wednesday, or Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

They can look up your vehicle and give you all kinds of great info on it!!

    Good Luck,

    Donna

Hi Donna, Thanks for the phone numbers, I will be sure to give them a call on Monday morning, I have been wanting to find out all I can about my truck. It is in pretty rough shape right now as it was dismantled because of a broken frame luckily I have been able to round up almost all of the original parts, but its going to be quite a big project to get it looking original again. I am planning on putting log bunks, and trailer on it as it was used as a log truck by my Uncle back in the early 60's, then it was fitted with a Prentice log loader, thats how the frame got broke! any way thanks for the info, Doug :SMOKIE-LFT:

  18. Doug, I know of one, maybe two , in junk yards here in NW Pa. . I don't know which B-80  series they are ,  or if they're any good, but they can probably be recored. Let me know.  John

Hi John, thanks for the reply. It would be great if you could get a hold of one for me, the only problem is that I would need you to store it for a while if possible, I am off work right now waiting on Back surgery, but when I go back to work I get up into PA quite regular, if you cant store it maybe one of my buddies could swing by and pick it up for me, dont know how happy they would be about packing it around for a couple of weeks though!! LOL any way let me know thanks, Doug :thumb:

  19. I have been rounding up all the pieces of the B-833 and found out that my cousins hauled off the radiator for scrap :pat: How hard will it be to find a replacement? are there any other models that are the same? also I was reading about some of you getting info about your trucks from some where, where could I find the info on my trucks? thanks, Doug :)
