  1. I have a ‘63 C85 and hope to get it road worthy soon. It will run rough if I drizzle gas in the carb. I need to drop and clean / replace the gas tank as there seems to be lots of trash in it. There’s no telling what the former owner (private) did with the truck. He was not able to talk with me. My carburetor is very corroded and needs rebuilding or replacing. Any ideas where to go for replacement or rebuild kit? I also would like to upgrade the distributors to pertronix or similar. Are the distributors the same units that would have been used in something else? What should I be asking for? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !
  2. I did run the 707 a couple of months ago 3 or 4 times at about 20 to 30 seconds per time. I had to use a temporary fuel source since the original fuel tank needs cleaning and the Zenith carb needs some attention, too. The starting and ignition systems work fine. I just need to get the fuel system issues worked out.
  3. That link took me to a distributor for a 4-cylinder VW. Maybe I missed something.
  4. Engine1252: Did you upgrade to the Pertronix yet? What is the pertronix part number? What is the delco distributor part number or series number. I need to do the same upgrade. Thank you!
  5. I have a '63 C85F (firetruck) with the ENF707C In-line 6 cylinder Gas engine. This engine uses dual distributors. The manual only refers to them as Delco Remy. Does anybody know if these are the same as might have been used for some main stream engine like the chevy in-line truck motors or any other possibilities? I'm am wanting to convert them to the solid state breaker-less type and don't know where to start looking. Any help or comments are welcomed!
  6. I have a '63 C85F with the ENF707C Gas engine and Dana Spicer 184 automatic transmission. The truck has 22,000 original miles. I'm looking for some specific info and welcome general comments anyone cares to make. Until yesterday, it had not been started in about 8 years. After cleaning points, rotor caps and verifying the coils were good, I did get it to run with a temporary clean fuel source and spraying fuel into the carburetor air inlet. It runs rough, as expected. I know the Zenith carburetor needs some attention as I can see some internal passages are clogged from old fuel sitting and possible contaminated fuel being pushed through by the previous owner. For the multiple times of 10-15 seconds when the motor was running, me changing the throttle position did not seem to affect the running rpms. For what it's worth, I had to remove the top of the Zenith carburetor for it to run, which also seems to confirm clogged passages. Before removing the top, it would only fire then try to start, but never actually run. Should I leave the governor mechanism in place? This engine uses dual distributors. The manual only refers to them as Delco Remy. Does anybody know if these are the same as might have been used for some main stream engine like the chevy in-line truck motors or any other possibilities? I'm am wanting to convert them to the solid state breaker-less type and don't know where to start looking. Comments welcomed.
  7. Firemack, I will keep that in mind. Even if the EFI becomes reality, I may go with dual throttle body injection and try to keep it looking old school similar to the old offenhauser six cylinder carb conversions you mention. My objective is to let some computer decide just how much fuel supply to keep the beast happy and to maximize fuel usage; --- and of course, to be able to say I did an EFI converion on a 707 CI gas engine. It may remain just a dream for some time. I wonder what other comments I might get??? Thanks for your info. It's greatly appreciated. - Bill
  8. I'm looking for the cam specifications for a 1963 Mack C-85 with the 707 Gas Engine. Considering an electronic fuel injection conversion and will need that information. Anybody done this before? Anybody have any comments? Looking for any information that might help to decide if this is wise or not. Thanks, Bill
