  1. Hi all,

I have a 1986 Mack superliner with a Rebuilt E6-350... I'm trying to debate which oil is better for my engine.

On my last oil change I put Mobil Devac and 1 gal of lucas oil additive. Coming up on 5500 miles and ready for the next oil change.

Anyway my question is should i stick with mobil delvac or Delo 400LE? also is that valvaline blue any good?

Its a gravel truck.... Also I have a fuller 9 speed that i want to change the tranmission oil too...what oil can i use? thanks in advance

  2. Hi, I would just put the engine on no. 1 T.D.C. TAke off the front valve cover and turn the motor over til both intake and exhaust valves on no. 1 cylinder are loose when timing pointer is on T.D.C. If the valves aren't loose when it is on T.D.C. then turn one whole revolution and they will be.When the pump is removed the blind spline will be at the 2 o'clock position. So when installing the pump make sure the pump coupler is also at that position for ease of assembly. After the pump is installed it must be timed with either a high pressure timing pump or by removing the delivery valve and using a low pressure pump. The timing spec will be on engine tag. Enjoy, Steve

    Thanks alot steve..

  3. Hi all, Im in the process of removing My pump due to a leaks that I have to get fixed.

The pump runs great aside from the stupid leaks coming from a couple of the lines where the fittings screw in the pump.

I would like to know the proper procedure for removal and installation so that I can put the pump back in proper timing.

I have a really good mechanic that will be doing this but, Mack is really not his specialty he deals mainly with international, kenworth, peterbuilts.

The pump will go to a diesel injection sevice shop where it will be fixed and recalibrated.

So maybe someone can scan a page for me from a service book or somthing. That will be greatly appreciated.

    ENGINE: is E6-350 (239GB5450P2)

    PUMP: AMBAC/ AMERICAN BOSCH PUMP P/N M300 PLM450205D (26GB412B)

  4. WHAO...This is a lot aof great info..thanks guys..I was doing some serching and came up with a link that has a picture of what i believe may be my compressor..

The one in the pic says it's a LESTER 3 and mine is a LESTER 5. I wish i knew where i can buy a seal kit for the clutch. Thats where its leaking . you can hear it hissing.

Other than that it seems to be work great.

  5. "Lester" is a rebuilder and not a manufacturer. Don't know if they are still around. Replace with either a York, or Sanden depending if the existing is a reciprocating or swash plate or axial design.

    Rob

ahhh ...cool. well i'm trying to get a seal kit for it. do you think its possible? I'll get some pics and try and find some more information this weekend. So it's probly a york or sanden and has a lester label on it. maybe i can find some more #'s on it.

  6. Hi all, I seem to have a bit of a problem. My AC compressor thats on my 1986 mack superliner (Glider kit) is not very common. It works great but it leaks thru the ac clutch seal area. I cant seem to find any info on this part#. Has anyone even ever head of this brand? LESTER 5 0125526

I have a E6-350 can you atleast tell me what compressor i can buy to replace it? Any info on this so called "lester" brand would be appreciated.

  7. LAZR GUIRA,

that's a very clean machine you got there! I'm in process of building a scale model of a Superliner I, so this thread is valuable reference for me. Black headlight frames look very interesting! That steering arrangement is pretty unusual and it took me a lot of head scratching to figure out. I was assisted by one particularily helpful forum member (thanks again!), and I got the steering axle done, but I still need the shaft made - just in scale. Here's a link to my model build thread:

    Superliner Scale Model

Could you post some pictures of your truck (from under the hood) there? Thanks in advance for your help, have a nice weekend

    Paweł

Thanks. It's still a work in progress. still missing stainless sunvisor,2 chrome stacks,etc....wanna make it look Mean! I'll see if can get you some more pics for you scale model.

  8. No they are not. I've mentioned twice in this thread you have aSuperliner ONE. Maybe it says 86 on the paper work but that truck was built long before that. Maybe the drive line was installed in the kit in 86. Post your VIN. I'm sure one of members here can tell you the build date for the factory portion.

I never said it was a superliner 2. I'm just trying to say that i thought it was really wierd that i have a superliner1 and the title says 86.

God only knows the history of this truck and how it was put together.

  9. They did that to give about 1/2 second warning before impaling the driver's chest. In reality, this is the reason for the collapsable steering column. In cars, the steering column has to collapse 3" before moving the entire column by federal mandate.

Mounting the steering gear in that fashion was a bad design in my opinion.

    Rob

I was told that the main reason for that design is so that people can stuff any engine they wanted to in superliners without any problems.

People would go buy gliders and put cat, cummins, detroit etc.....Mine is a glider aswell

  10. This is a bit of a different animal however. When the steering gear is mounted to the steer axle the splines work much the same as a driveshaft with the slip, and spline moving with the axle. This induces a lot of wear into the shaft splines. Much like a driveshaft the shaft has to endure the torque of twisting also. These needed greased often but a lot were neglected. A steering gear that is frame mounted does not have the same rigors on the input shaft this setup does.

    Rob

Couldn't have said it better my self!!

  11. Cabmate makes/sells them new but they are pricy. May have to fab one up. or call global truck parts...but get in line im still waiting for my air ride kit!!!!!

fabbing one up would be extremly easy for me since im a computer designer/programmer. I wish i had a design to go by.

I have access to just about every pc of equipment here at work. (laser, turrets, welders, pressbrakes, powder coat line etc....)

If any body has some pics or parts list that i would need please let me know. Yea i saw the cabmate ones and they are $800+.. way too much IMO. Thx
