  1. Got one of our Granite's (2004 model year) that is very lack luster with blowing air through the vents. The fan itself sounds like it should be a tornado.... D the Granite's have a cabin air filter? I have looked and looked but cant find where one would be. So Do the Granite's have one? and where would I locate it? If anyone knows of a better filter for an '07 Pete 340 that would be apprecited too....
  2. Hey guys, i'm new to the forum, and just thought I would let ya'll know if you got a 5.9L Cummins, need help with one or what ever, ask away! I have alot more experience with the Bosch VE (rotary pump) but still have quite a bit of experience with the inline Bosch P-7100 pump as well.
  3. It is a ROTARY, not an Inline pump? JUST MY SPECIALTY! lol VERY easy pump to get power from, not like an inline, but more power anyway.... first things first, got a pyro and boost gauge? DO NOT boost go over 40 a whole lot, otherwise your gonna be into it for a headgasket... What turbo is on it? im assuming an HX-40 if memory serves me correctly for a "big truck" 5.9L Cummins. Second there is a major bang for the buck cheap part you can get from Ebay or any diesel shop, a Governor spring. Relativly easy to do, and WOW! There are options here, 3200 RPM, 3800 RPM (i have one) and 4000RPM. Yes you can spin it to 4K (with a $120 set of upgraded 60# valve springs) However that engine may already have them, got an exhaust brake?) I would say 3200 spring kit, the Bosch VE pump doesnt do much past 2800-3200 RPM. There are a few FREE power enhancements, the full fuel screw, an AFC adjustment for more fuel on the bottom end, and bumping up the timing. I also highly recomend a 0-30 PSI if not 50PSI fuel pressure gauge. I do not know what lift pump was put on the industrial 5.9 but if its the same as the Dodge, you gotta keep an eye on the lift pump, or just replace it all together with the one supplied on the inline (Bosch p-7100) injection pump Dodge trucks. Do you know what lift pump is on that truck? electric, the one with an arm to prime with or the one with the push buttom primer? With good maintenance that little ol 5.9 will run 1,000,000 miles and not need an overhaul (yes i said one million) If you have ANY questions at all feel free to message me, I know a ton about the 5.9L Cummins! There are 2 articles you need to read before playing with the full fuel screw!! (and i wrote them oddly enough) I also have links to the Governor spring install, full fuel screw adjustment, and i believe there is one on the AFC adjustment as well. Along with advancing the timing. I didnt pay attention, but where are you located? (i'll look and see but chances are I know someone nearby who may be able to assist you if your not comfortable with any of it)
  4. Yea thats what I have read thus far, so at some point over the next week, im going to be gettin out the tools and electrical contact cleaner (forget brake clean!) and gonna see if I can come up with something to help with the dirt and debris and JUNK getting into the servo's on these things. There must be a way to seal it up "better". Im kind of the internet and diesel guru of the company can ya tell? lol
  5. well the 94 has an issue once in a while, well, a bit really. The engine just dies at times, but for a split second, when it does it the tach freaks out, it drops to nothing then flys back to where it should be. Circumstances doesnt matter, smooth road, rough road, part throttle, full throttle higher RPM's pulling a hill fully loaded.... The engine just cuts out entirely then comes right back, the worst times its fully loaded pulling a big hill, boost up around 30-35 psi (not good on the turbo when it does that!) i notice that i cant get back to 30 psi unless you get off the throttle then back on again after that. Also the engine surges, will go from 25psi to 35psi for a bit then back to 25.... have a granite that will do the same cutting out deal just not as often, and way worse. once it cuts out (alot of times in a low gear pulling a hill) you have no choice but to start in low all over again because it defuels the engine so bad and doesnt pick back up where it was before. My first day on the job i was riding along in this truck, fully loaded, on a very hard climb, it cut out and the jake came on... (switch was on) My 04 Granite (no boost gauge) I can listen to the turbo and know when im getting full fuel. A lot of times the turbo dies off at 1500 RPM (engine defueling) but sometime the turbo keeps on goin untill less than 1400. (it doesnt just die off, kind of like going from 30psi to 15 or 20 psi) I can tell when its defueling just by listening to the turbo, let alone feel it. However unlike the others, I dont lose power entirely.
  6. Hey ya'll! New to the Forum, and I am very happy to find BMT! I work for a small operation in northeast PA worin for the quarries mainly working for the gas drilling operations up here. We run a 10 truck fleet, consisting of 3 Pete's, 1 Superliner, a 94 R-model, and 5 Granite's. (i'll learn the model lingo soon i promise!) My truck is an '04 Granite Tri-axle with an 18 speed. The rest of the Granites I believe are 8LL... along with the 94, and the Superliner is a 13. So far I think I may have figured out a couple issues were having with the trucks, like the throttle peddle (spelling?) I hope I will be able to contribute to the forum, I am no stranger to Forums, and have a couple Tech articles on other Forums in regards to the 5.9L Cummins.
