  1. LMAO@Boll!! You can always tell someone thats been truckin for a while because that post is about as right as it can get....lol.

RS Im hopin this extra long run of bad luck leads to an extra long trouble free period.

Speed...only thing I knew bout the trunion is that the truck had laid over to that side for a while and I figured it was a bad chair or rubber blocks.

  2. I had to share whats happened in the last 2 weeks...I figure some of you can relate an will get a good laugh out of it cause it is trucking and it does happen...lol.

Last Monday morn on first load of morning truck wa acting funny and leaning pretty bad in the holes....well when I got to the dump I went over it lookin for probs....boy did I find one. Trunion bar was broken slap in 2 (dont ask me how all I can think is it was worn out) right in the middle between the springs and u could see where it had been a long process of cracking a little at a time. Well started tearing it down to fix it and discovered the drums were shot so we may as well line brakes as well. Lined 4 wheels of brakes, 4 drums,1 cannister. one slack, seals, a few bearings and hardware kits. Put 4 new drive tires and 2 new spacers on it as well as replacing the trunion, lower rubber blocks, and saddle brass. Some time during the latter stages of all this while using a railroad jack...the bar kicked out of it and hit me in the forehead....instant concussion and huge knot....not really a big deal as anyone who would buy a truck doesnt have a lot to hurt up there anyways.

Well after visiting the Doc he told me to take at least a week off...I explained it wasnt possible as the job only has about 5 weeks left. So we decided that I would take off till this Monday. Ok Monday morning comes and I fire the truck up anxious to test all my new parts out. Air builds up and I mash the clutch in to pull out...BAM...clutch explodes. So have been down all this week as well and had to replace the clutch assembly, motor support bushings, etc. I am supposed to be back to work tomorrow afternoon and Im scared to get in the damn thing now..lol. This is just some of the perils of buying a used truck as someone elses headache becomes your own I suppose.

Either way this one is about to go on down the road..lol..I love it but not sure I can afford much else with it..lol.

  3. I think my 58 rears would be technically called the 112 and 113. They have 5.73 ratio. Tops speed is 68 mph at 2000 rpm's...but this is with an 14708LL which has a pretty good overdrive in 8th gear. The 800 has 5.88's with a 6 speed and might top out at 50 on a good day..LOL

  4. If you use a bolt down puller like I have (has the flat bar with the main puller in the middle and also 2 other bolts to the studs of the nozzle)....MAKE SURE you have the injector freed up enough to move back and forth or turn in the head a little before attempting to pull it out or you will break the middle part of it...not good..lol. We always used a prybay to work it around a little and loosen it up some before using the puller.

  5. The new Mack engines are better in every way than our legacy product: better performance, better torque delivery, and better fuel economy. I think you will be impressed by our 11 liter and 13 liter offerings when you check them out at:

That right theres funny...I dont care who you are. Dont need to check out a website I haul with them every day....my "old" E7-400 will eat the 405's lunch with ease on power and mileage...sorry to be the voice of dissent but I haul with 6 new Granites everyday. The only advantage they have over my E7 would be the engine brake. You can race your website all you want but we put the 30-40 tons on em and do it everyday. BTW...My "old" E7 now has 17000 hours on it and has never been touched either and still does it to them. The 405's seem to be decent motors but lets not build them into something they arent here....it does everyone involved a disservice.

  6. It is all Mack of course it has a 2 valve 300 with a 6 speed. Nothing fancy just standard DM800 stuff. Rears are 65k's with 5.88 ratio. Tops out around 46-48 mph. One good thing about the 2 valve motors I have noticed over the years. You can get pretty crazy on the pumps turning them up. This one will turn the manifold and turbo both orange on a hard pull and after 7 years when I pulled a head...the pistons still looked perfect except for the one with the piece of the intake valve sticking in it...lol. Another long story but basically caused by stupidity (overwound).

Thanks GearheadGrrl I bet those trucks would sell like hotcakes in this region if they ever started building them again..lol. They are still pretty highly sought after. I imagine Sweden HQ would get a laugh out of that..lol.

Kevin are you from Ohio? Near Belpre/Athens?

I finally got a pic on here of my old 800. Its a 76 Model and I dont think I'd trade it for an 06 or 4 Volvos. I know I have talked about it enough that I needed to show a pic..lol. Its a good solid old truck that I'd like to completely restore one day. However I dont even know if any new parts can be had for it. I have had this thing since 98 and its probably wore out a few good drivers. Its parked at the moment and Im running my 92 R Model...but this one will always be my fav. With this truck I just haul with no worries. Gotta drive the R Model like its made of glass compared to this one..lol. Besides that you cant run the 800 fast enough to hurt it without injuring yourself in the process. :)

  8. Sure have Kevin I have 2 laying in the driveway that have seen better days..lol. The last one got so much wear on the countershaft bearings it started breaking teeth on the gears. I could tell some of the stuff I done to that thing but it would make me look bad an nobody would believe me anyways..lol. But I will say I ran it an entire shift squalling like a siren in 2002...it might have had a quart of oil in it. I filled it that evening after work and ended up running that tranny until early 05. They are an amazing piece. I dont think theres a gear in it with all its teeth intact and it hauled right up till I downed it to change it out. It held together long enough to carry me thru some very rough times.

The other one was torn out by a rookie driver on a steep bank.....the only weak spot I have seen in them is 1st gear. You get one on a really steep bank and 2nd bogs out and you snatch 1st real quick and wheelie it...theres a good chance its gonna be a 5 speed afterwards..lol. Keep in mind this is probably grossing 110000-130000...so that lick would probably split the case on a Fuller..lol.

Basically stupidity or stupidity is the only way to hurt one. I honestly think they'd run a month on swamp water for oil.

    Nothing like a Mack...
