  1. sorry i dont get on the computer very often, yes Linda still runs it and it is on Broadway Ave north of I-40.
  2. i recently aquired a 1980 mack engine and tranny (6 speed 2 stick) and it has an air line coming from the intake manifold via the puffer valve. it also has 2 wires hooking on some object on the housing that operates hi-lo-reverse. what could these be for?
  3. thank you guys for all the info, i got my block all ready last winter and my heads are due soon from Broadway Machine in OKC Oklahoma. i now feel secure enough to tackle this expensive adventure.
  4. thanks for the info guys, do you back off one head bolt at a time and re-torque or do you reverse the entire sequence? surely one bolt at a time but i dont really know
  5. and if so what is the proper procedure? i worked on motorcycles and cars since 13 years of age and being 53 now here i am asking dumb questions.
  6. thank you Rob, that makes all the sense in the world. i didnt realize the injectors had a cup they slid into.
  7. i,m kinda new at this truck thing but are the heads interchangable like a old chevy v8 or is there a front and rear like a Harley Panhead? one injector is bigger and goes thru a water passage. dazed and confused!
  8. yes, i just wanted to make sure that i wasnt messing up using that cr seal. i'd rather mess with that wear ring after the crank is grooved. it just seemed the cr seal fit really tight and would burn up even though i oiled it and the crank.
  9. my em6 285 had a wear ring, i bought a complete victor reinz gasket set and the seal in it is a cr59999, it is a really tight fit with no wear ring. has any body had any experiance with this?
  10. uh oh, i guess i have a one in six chance that its in right, i wonder what happens if its in wrong?
  11. i know on my small block chevys i can spin the oil pump with a drill but i dont know how to prime my little Mack motor. any suggestions would be much appreciated.
  12. thank you Rhasler, i cut a round block of 2x4 and that really did the trick. my rebuilt oil cooler passed the pressure test just minutes ago, thank you sir.
  13. if it is how do you get the copper pipe assembly out of the cast iron housing? is there a good way to test the cooler to make sure water isnt getting in the oil or oil in the water? i cant find a shop manual so if anybody has one for sale please e mail me at randytina@pldi.net. thank you
  14. does anybody happen to know the torque for the flywheel bolts for my em6 285 and also i'm getting conflickting info on the head bolts and the 5/8 bolts on the mains. thank you bollweevil for the shim info, you were exactly right.
  15. when i dropped the crank out the 4 halves fell out. the number 4 cap has pegs that hold 2 halves but i see nothing to hold the other 2 halves. does anybody know what is going on?
  16. i bought a overhaul kit from ag kits and the instructions say the new liners should slide 3/4 of the way down into the cyl. and then lightly tap with a board and small hammer the rest of the way. i have to push hard with both hands to even get them started. the bore on the block 5.095 and the o.d. of the liners is 5.094. is that too tight? they are clevite liners made in india. i guess i'll call ag kits and see what they say but they are going to think i'm stupid.
  17. i've got 1978 endt 676 and a 1981 em6 285 and they look identical, i know one is rated HP (283) and the other is cubic inches but why did Mack change their naming. are the heads interchangable. my new head gaskets have a notch cut out in a bolt hole right next to the cumbustion chamber. it just dont look right, does anybody know what i'm talking about?
  18. I sure appreciate the info all you fellas kick out, i love my old 77 r model dump truck. its neat to see people interested in helping to keep something like that running. i'm not computer smart so i hope you all forgive me for not responding properly to say thank you for your advice. with you alls advice i got my leaky freeze plugs and my old liners out, i bought what was supposed to be a complete engine overhaul gasket set but its missing the actual head gaskets and the o-rings for the freeze plugs. i'm searching for more good advice. THANK YOU AGAIN!
  19. i tried the arc welder set at 75 amps with 6011 rod and made 10 or 12 passes up and down the cyl. i got #1 out after filling cyl.with ice, but it took me half a day! i also seem to remember the screw in freeze plugs dripping a little when the motor was cold, i need to figure out a way to remove those and reseal them. special tool or could i make one? Thank You
  20. very nice homes!!! i'm a one finger typer so kinda slow but thanx for the info on my ad.

  21. where is the best place to buy an overhaul kit for my 1981 em6 285?
  22. Years ago i saw a b model cab on a r model chassis. it was about a 77 to 79 with 676 and a 5 or 6 speed tranny. how hard is this to do? Is there a kit available to help simplify this process?
  23. What is the head bolt torque reading for a endt 676, do i need to retorque after run in and are the head bolts reusable over and over.
